airarms
Hi all . any help please .my hw95 is shooting to many fliers. I've checked everything is tight .its not clipping moderator on out side.could it be clipping inside? Also I cannot budge the moderator ,which has one Alan key screw, which I removed. I was told to heat it up to break the bond, which I did and it won't move .how much heat can be applied to it .....appreciate any help guys

I was told to heat it up to break the bond, which I did and it won't move .how much heat can be applied to it .....appreciate any help guys I have removed stubborn mods by holding them over the hob flames close to the barrel checking frequently by grabbing (with an oven glove) and twisting. When you say many fliers I take it this has suddenly become a problem ? I say this because my one straight out of the box will shoot rested groups coverable with a 5p coin at 28 yards using all manner of pellets incl AArms and H&N but gave surprisingly awful groups with RWS Superdomes which I had always up until now found a reliable performer. Apart form the obvious such as loose screws and of course the scope mount and scope itself, the main culprit will invariably be the moderator. oliver90owner
'''to many fliers.'' Need a bit more than this. As above, just started? New to you gun? Is this the occasional flier with the rest grouped tightly? Is the clearance correct in the moderator (mine, not a HW, has almost a mm all round)? How many is too many (OK, one is too many!)? What do you call a flier? Standard issue silencer? Lots of helpful info t help the crew nail the problem instead of guessing all around the possible real problem. airarms
Get two or three good shots then one 3 inch's out .moderator comes with gun as standard. Its a second hand gun I recently purchased.
airarms
Don't know if clearance is OK in moderator because I can't get it off
Hamster
Don't know if clearance is OK in moderator because I can't get it off Have you tried the heat treatment yet, also make sure it is threaded and not some DIY bodgit. Once the moderator is off you should soon see if the groups follow a similar pattern without it on which would then put you on the right track. ps. presumably the same thing happens with different pellets ? oliver90owner
Don't know if clearance is OK in moderator because I can't get it off Not that I need to, but a 7.4mm rod will slide cleanly through my moderator. If it would not, I would suspect an internal clearance and check further. I would suspect the moderator if every third shot was 75mm off at a sensible range, but at what range? What represents a 'good' shot is also subjective from one person to another. It is (or was) a regular(?) rifle alteration to add weight to the moderator on these for better balance.. Maybe someone has been in there and done that?
hyflier
I doubt anyone has gone to the expense of having the barrel threaded for a moderator, particularly if there's an allen screw holding it in place. It is possible the allen key has created a burr which the mod won't slide over. It is also possible that whoever added the mod, used rosin to help hold it in place. Rosin is a powder which provides phenomenal grip and has melting temperature of 100 degrees centigrade. If Rosin has been used, you will need to reach that temperature to move it. (Use a welding glove) Beware, some moderator's have nylon or plastic baffles. Have a look with a torch first! Underdog
My 95 use to go silly as soon as a trigger guard screw came loose, even slightly.

oliver90owner
Probably the aimer at fault, in that case. Often is, but will blame it on something else. Try adjusting the trigger.
