Getting into shooting, starting off with an Air Rifle (if the police let me) and seeing how I get on.
  1. I bought a Cometa 300N, with a nickel barrel and black stock. Very happy with it, very accurate over open sights and can't wait to see what it can do with a scope fitted.
  2. Result! Picked up my FAC in Lisnasharragh today and went straight to Tannyoky Guns to pick up rifle. Put about 100 pellets through it over open sights to get used to it and I love the balance of the gun. Was hitting most of what I aimed at at about 35yds over opens, so I'm looking forward to what it will do with a scope. I've put my Hawke MAP 6 x 40 on it but not been able to shoot any pellets with the scope on. I'm just a little bit happy!
  3. Ok, just an update. After approaching my MLA with a letter from my landowner asking if there was any way my application could be speeded up, as his newly sown wheat was already taking a battering, I had my FEO call to see me on Thursday. She was in the house for about 4 1/2 minutes, asked me 4 questions, asked to see where I'm putting the cabinet and that was it. She said it would probably take 2 weeks for the provisional grant and then she'd have to come and check the cabinet, but hopefully It'll not be too long now. Three months yesterday.
  4. In Northern Ireland, we already have to jump through all the hoops. We don't particularly like it, but it does not stop us shooting.
  5. Can anybody give me any info on the range beside the A1 between Newry and Banbridge? Specifically whether they are air rifle friendly, whether you can just turn up and shoot and when the range is open. Thanks guys, Stefan.
  6. Shooting Times - To keep up with general countryside/conservation/shooting news. Shooting Sports - For rifle stuff and to see new gear. Airgun World (sometimes) - For any air rifle specific stuff.
  7. In the latest Airgunner,(or is it Airgun World?), there is an article about a bloke who put an air rifle action onto one of these stocks and he reckoned the magic number is 600mm too. He made a good job of it too.
  8. Thanks, have posted there. Silencer is not required for the shooting I do, mostly target with the odd rabbit, hence I'm looking at a Winchester type repeater. I just want something different.
  9. Hi guys, I've seen a new Henry Varmint Express .17HMR in my local RFD and thought it had lovely balance and seemed easy and natural to cycle and cock the mechanism, but I'd like to know if any of you knowledgeable bods have any experience with it or with a similar type of repeater in .17HMR? Any comments greatly appreciated. Thanks, Stefan.
  10. Can anyone tell me how good or otherwise Luger binos are? I have my eye on a pair of 8 x 40 which are small and light enough to carry around. They are nicely balanced and have a good field of vision, but does anybody have any experience of how robust they are? Thanks, Stefan.
  11. Tannyoky Guns, near Poyntzpass in Northern Ireland. Top Guys.
  12. Just be careful about shooting birds with the rimmie, you should never use a rimfire to shoot into the air as there is no backstop. Its ok if you are shooting down at them from a height as the ground acts as backstop. Using a shotgun is very satisfying though! Especially if you are comfortable using a light .410 or something. Just my 2p worth.
  13. Got my acknowledgement throught today. I was told not to expect it for about three weeks, so just over a week is not too bad. Just carry on counting now......
  14. Well, I picked a Cometa 300N, 18 ftlb £165. I've not seen it anywhere for less than £155 for 12 ftlb version. £10 extra for supporting local shop is ok in my book. Pellets are also cheaper than Jack Smyths in Newry. What were you comparing prices on?
  15. I just want to say that Cecil and the lads at Tannyoky Guns near Poyntzpass in Northern Ireland are a fantastic bunch of people and have been very helpful and patient with me. I have been in and out of the shop, picking up air rifle after air rifle and asking thousands of stupid questions and they haven't kicked me out once! Anyway, Ive picked my gun and sent off the forms etc. but I'd be perfectly happy to recommend them to anyone and I'll be using them for all the stuff I need (want) from now on. Thanks for all your help guys. Stefan.
