  1. Where are you? What length cartridges is it chambered for?
  2. Don't rush it, take you're time finding a good second hand Beretta and you'll never sell it!
  3. I too have had the bead fall off my gun during a round of sporting clays and my shooting completley went to pieces! However i have friends who's beads have fallen off and it doesn't concern them one bit. My girlfriend has recently taken up shooting and her coach has reccomended that she has an oversize red/orange bead fitted. He says that she won't look directly at it has no clearly defined outline but that it will give her a greater awareness of where the end of the barrels are pointing. Useful for a learner getting used to a gun I presume. Each to their own I suppose. George
  4. Thank-you for all of the comments and advice. I think that staining the wood down will probably be the best option as there is less risk of making a horrible mess of it. I quite like the contrast between a dark wood and the metal of the action and it may make the extension somewhat less obvious. I saw a gun recently that, once extended, had the extension painted to match the wood. It was abosolutley stunning and matched the existing, very well figured wood perfectly (this was on a near brand new Stephen Grant Sidelock). I believe that it was done by a polish chap who works for Francis Lovell in Witney. I did get a quote but they were looking for £400+ which is half of the value of the gun! Anyway, need to get the gun fitted first, any reccomendations of who to use? Wiltshire/Hampshire/Berkshire. Many thanks, George
  5. I need to get my shotgun stock lengthened and intend to have it done by my local gunsmith in a wood extension. However there is already a colour difference between the stock (which is a replacement) and the fore-end wood which is much darker, probably due to the fore-end being the 108 year old original! The stock is also pretty bland with very little figuring. I was thinking that, once extended, i would like to stain the stock a very dark brown to match the fore-end wood and hide to some extent the lack of figuring. Any reccomendation about the best way to do this? Also does anyone have any experience of adding figuring to bland wood? I have seen stock extensions "inked" or painted to match the existing wood. All comments greatly appreciated. George
  6. Thanks Bob, Yes, found it just after christmas, i was looking for a Greener but when saw the quality of the engraving on this it was a "must have!" it had been in the shop all of two hours! Need to get the stock lengthened and then hit the clay ground and learn to shoot with it before November. (Ive been using a beretta o/u for the past four years so need to learn to use a sxs again!) Sold the beretta this morning so there is no going back now! Gb
  7. 1900 Cogswell and Harrison Has been recently rebarreled by the makers (at previous owners expense) and on a replacement stock. Just need to get it fitted now. GB

  9. Hello all, I have decided to rationalise my gun cabinet and therefore have decided to sell my over and under and concentrate on my old side by side, (Foolish i know!) The gun is as follows: Make: Beretta Model: 686s Silver Pigeon (Current Model) Barrels: 28 inch, Fixed choke (1/4 &1/2) Stock: Right Handed, standard dimensions, oil finished (much nicer than varnish) Age: Approx 3 Years Condition: The gun is in very good condition. Price £800 (Cost new £1050) Overally an exceptionally nice handling gun, why pay £4000+ for the eell when this is mechanically identical. The gun is in its beretta plastic case with original manuals and both summer and winter butt plates. I am based in Whitchurch (Hampshire) and Hungerford (Berkshire) I will take some photos tonight. Many thanks, George
