  1. I have recently moved location and the replacement certificates for both sgc and fac took a little while to be sorted. I have had a letter sent to me from the firearms unit asking me to collect a spent round from each rifle and shotgun and keep in a seperate location from my firearms in case they were stolen, I was wondering if anyone else had come across this? Whilst I understand the reason of why it could enable the police to identify a firearm being used after it has been stolen (only if the spent round was left behind) Going forward: isnt this something they could have the proof house do example: fire and collect a spent round from every rifle and shotgun thats fired? Interested to know if anyone else has been asked or is this is the future for all holders of firearms and shotgun certificates. Regards Derek

    OLD PC

Advisory, to remove the hard drive and destroy it< Did you know...your pc retains almost all your data including all internet sites you have ever been onto, it has all your personal data and everthing left on your hard drive even after you have thought you deleted it? in most cases all data can be recovered from the hard drive, So my advice would be to destroy the hard drive before it could find its way into the wrong hands This advice I would give to anyone considering getting rid of any old pcs that they have used. Destroy the hard drive first!
  10. Inaccurate and alarmist reports have appeared in the shooting press and on email concerning BASC's position on lead ammunition. They misrepresent BASC’s position and the current situation. BASC would like to take the opportunity to put the record straight. The facts of the matter are: BASC is firmly opposed to any unwarranted attempts to further restrict lead shot. All other shooting organisations support this position. BASC and all other shooting organisations agree that the shooting community must be involved in discussions on the future of lead ammunition. Not to be involved is to lose our voice and influence. All the shooting organisations have been discussing the latest evidence on lead shot for some time. All the shooting organisations agree that shooting should be involved in the lead ammunition advisory group being established by DEFRA to examine scientific evidence on the use of lead ammunition in the UK. All the main shooting organisations are supportive of John Swift, the CEO of BASC, taking the Chair. The shooting organisations form the largest group on the lead ammunition advisory group. They include BASC, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Gun Trade Association and the Countryside Alliance. Other organisations will be asked to contribute in specialist areas. The natural conclusion from this is that shooting is well represented and is united on this issue. What does this mean for the future of lead ammunition in the UK? Defra has chosen the lowest level of committee, unofficial and industry-driven, to give advice. No political party in the UK has any plans to further restrict lead shot The current position of the Food Standards Agency is that the consumption of shot game is not sufficient in the UK to become a public health issue. There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that some birds can be poisoned by feeding on shot animals or taking up lead shot as grit. The group has been asked to assess the relevance of research for the UK. Nothing will happen in the UK for the foreseeable future. Please forward this email to anyone you know who is involved in shooting. You can read John Swift's Article on the issue for the next issue of Sporting Gun here: http://www.basc.org.uk/filemanager/root/si...ition_group.pdf If you would like to discuss any of the issues in more detail, please contact the BASC communications department on 01244 573031 or email pressoff@basc.org.uk

  13. Hi Jon, Everytime you clean it just rub over it with some gun oil on a cloth, it will help keep the water out or just get a cold blueing kit cheap as chips on fleabay. They dont stay new forever! did a similiar thing with my silver pig 111 first outing ding!!! on the barrel Hardley worth having anything done I just simple go over it with a cloth with gun oil. Regards Hunter2
  14. I have a Howa 1500 sportier in .223 Purchased a meopta 7x50 scope, fitted the bases then the low rings (Nikko sterling) Wildcat predator mod (slight issue with it that is marked the barrel in the first outing and came lose at the over the barrel end blowing spent powder out. (reading posts on this issue, it would seem that I need to have some shaved off the over the barrel end) So the first outing. Setting it up and trying to hit the mark before I would then have gone onto zero at a 1”high at 100yrds. This is what I did, After trying to get somewhere close to zero I started at 50 yrds and just could not really see if I was close to the target so back and forth I went leaving it a couple of minutes between each shot To see the placed shot, I was shooting low so after a lot of adjustment. I was hitting within a 3-4”inches Still not happy. I purchased a range of ammunition so I started with the cheap federal eagle 50grn first just to put some rounds through it; I read somewhere that you have to bed the barrel in and it would settle after a few rounds. I was resting off the bipod prone and was getting somewhere close be it with 3-4”inches of aim and decided to move to another location to rest off the bonnet of the car. As I thought it`s me not the new rifle, Long storey short, Set up again at only 15 yrds to get a better idea of hitting the mark and ran out of adjustment and still I was 1 ½” low. I tried at this point to use different ammo Federal 50grn Remington 55grn Sako 55 grn And some other federal 50-55grn cant recall what it was but used it up anway. and still had no change It was so easy to run off 50 rounds or so and still not happy with the hitting close to the mark, It’s still low by 1 ½ inches, I quess my real question is, Do I change the bases and rings as I think this is the issue with no more adjustment on the scope in elevation? Or is it I am too close. (All the equipment is new including the rifle) My thoughts I had a similar issue a couple of years ago with the hmr and simple just changed the rings to sports match as opposed to what I originally purchased. Zero`d easy with loads of adjustment left. I think it`s the bases and or maybe the rings and I should change them high, to what is another question?. Regards Hunter2
  15. Need some help from you in the know? I thought that having a floated barrel aids for better accuracy If this is true then I seek advice on floating a Howa 1500 sporter barrel .223 It has a laminated stock. I have a wildcat moderator and it seems heavy So the question is How to float the barrel,or does it not matter! Regards Hunter2

  19. Hi Guys, I am relocating to the north west (Oldham Area) in the next few months and have been visisting for over the last three years I have tried about 20 or so farms in the area for rough shooting/pest control permission and it seems so differcult to obtain. Dont know if you guys from the same area have found it differcult. I am a keen shooter and like to go out often,Sgc and fac held, basc etc. I still have my permissions in the south (herts and bucks) maybe I could offer someone the opputunity to shoot on permissions I have in the south as I will be down here at least once a month for the weekend! I have visited worsley clay (nice place) for clay`s on accasion and would welcome a meet up with the locals, Kind Regards Derek
