  1. HarfordWmj, just unterested to know, but how does that .270 of yours deal with bunnies? and how do you confirm the kills? I imagine finding what's left of them would pose a challenge to even that CSI lot in Miami.... H.
  2. This is absolutely right. There is a real danger Labour are going to get in on the back of all this protest vote nonsense, and as Mark says, a vote for the Lib Dems is simply a vote in Labour's pocket by denying the Conservatives the ability to gain a majority. The Lib Dems have no real chance of getting in power but the Conservatives and Labour do. It doesn't seem to have been highlighted sufficiently enough (only lightly) by the press that the Labour tactic of siding with the LD's (as Brown did at the recent debate) is simply a method of encouraging tactical voting and thereby denying the Conservatives the lead they would otherwise have and subjecting the country to another 5 years under an awful undeserving and destructive Labour government with the same unelected and useless PM. Essentially voting for anyone other than the Conservatives really is a wasted vote (from the national view). The standing of our sport has become fragile enough after 13 years of a Labour government, and another 5 years under them or the LD's might (under the Labour government it WILL) further destroy it, neither party would ever act to save this sport, and the Labour cabinet (particularily Jaqui Smith and Harriet Harman) have proved they hate it vehemently. And this aside from the news that the Lib Dems are looking to bring us further under the EU and join us to the Euro currency, taking away more of this countries independence and subjecting us to the kind of shared burden exemplified by Greece's recent balls up. 3. I breathe in, fix the target as I exhale, breathe in, then exhale slowly and controlled and take the shot then, as the cross-hairs line up on the target. Edit: I used to take it holding my breath, but found it rushed the time had in which to take the shot, and that as i came to take it my heartbeat quickened as i worried about whether i had the right aim, making steadying far harder H.
  4. I've found the remmy's pretty destructive too, for some reason louder as well. They also group badly through mine, I only use Hornday and Federal (Blue and Black) through mine and get fantastic results, Edit: just swapped from Hornady to Federal for the moment, missed all the rabbits yesterday after getting 5 hornaday head shots the day before, found that Federal give good groups but a half inch to the left.
  5. I bought a spare box off a fellow PW'er last year and still have most of it left, i found they didn't group quite as well as the 17gn (and above, which was a surprise with a heavier bullet) and that unless you go for a head shot every time you have a chance of runners, even with rabbits, which means a potentially slow and painful death, making me uncomfortable using them again. I havent shot a fox with them, but since i would only ever try and take charlie with a head shot i shouldnt think a well placed round through the brain would make an awful lot of difference.
  6. Well I've been using one for the last few weeks and it appears to work absolutely fine, the problem is its an incredibly expensive piece of plastic (£39)and the magazine feeding lips appear to be wearing down with use, if they go it will become useless and i'll be taking it back. So far however, no faults! I'd agree with just getting two sets of metal 5 clips...
  7. it's frustrating, but it just takes as long as it takes, i got a FAC without a SGC and it took just over a month and a half, which i thought was really good going from Chelmsford. The SGC is probably an advantage because you've been checked out and they've got a file on you...
  8. they are, and im pretty sure the mauser action is the most widely used in the world, far more than the lee-enfield action. And the CZ's are incredibly accurate.
  9. I don't understand this, my CZ isnt simply for looks, it gets knocked around, pulled through hedges, lent on fences, doesnt seem to do it any harm, i just look after it. I know it varies with taste, but i dont understand this argument that it makes such a huge difference, free float the barrel with a wooden stock and the minimal change in temperature and moisture will make very little difference anyway. Up until recently all stocks were made from wood.... why has this suddenly become such a huge problem in such a mild climate as englands?
  10. yup, the exact same, just smaller, Like a size reduced version of the Mauser, a fantastic and reliable action....
  11. I should think paying 100 quid more for an established, accurate and reliable rifle would be better than chancing 100 quid less on a unsellable, badly made piece of ****
  12. I don't know why people go for rimfire synthetic stocks, they al seem to just look crappy, particularily the CZ's, get some lovely wood!
  13. and whilst we're on the subject, what do you think of that sirocco?
  14. thanks gobfish, this thing was hanging, cleaner now, i've gone at it with an old toothbrush and some plus gas, advice very much appreciated, but theres **** all over the kitchen counter now....
  15. Right, ive got the lid off, but the internal assembly is still inside, how do i remove that?
  16. Thanks, but how do you strip it down?
  17. SSS, this Mod never was too good anyway, SAK's are only a low level set up anyway and i want to move on to something more effective from the word go. I've also been advised not to dissassemble these mods, for fear of further ballsing them up
  18. Hello all, Whilst the barrel on my rifle may be fine, as earlier testified, my moderator isn't. I've had a SAK for over a year now as a starting Mod and I'm beginning to become fed up with it, I've just read a moderator review at ShootingUK: http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/guns/rifles/38...rs_review_.html This put a PES Mod (PES 32mm Muzzlecan) at the quietest (I'm not bothered in weight or the increase in length, just want the quietest around). Has anybody had experience of these Mods, and what do they think? Thanks H. And I know i won't lose the supersonic 'crack', but this sound isnt all crack...
  19. Guys, hold up, I just proved myself wrong and got a fantastic couple of groups at 65 yards, this thing is a brilliant tool, but as for future reference, edgar bros. supply spares do they?? thanks H. So in short i just wasnt shooting properly
  20. They dont seem to do CZ barrels, just the guns entire...
  21. I have my suspicions that the previous owner may have had it cut down privately, i'm looking at the options really, wondering whether its possible to find a longer length, good quality replacement barrel, im not hugely happy with this one.... H
  22. A query on replacement barrels for my CZ 452 Varmint HMR, is it possible? and where can you get good quality barrels for them? and get them fitted? Thanks H
  23. Hi there, My main permission, a 1500 acre Essex farm, has just taken on its own syndicate and manager, and it has naturally become their shooting turf. I'm looking for a new permission/ shooting buddy for the Essex/ Hertfordshire area for rimfire rabbiting with my .17HMR. I'm 20 and at Uni most of the time so not at all demanding! No threat of perpetually asking for shooting, just odd days. If i can give any help with ridding farmland of Rabbits I would be very grateful! I'm a responsible shot and obviously won't shoot on land unsuited to my calibre, taught to shoot by Michael Aldiss at the Essex shooting school and brought up through the young shots days, so not a yahoo pissballing about, just looking for a nice place to get some air and escape the girlfriend! Thanks all, Josh
  24. I'd tend to agree, but upwards of 26 quid has to be justified not simply by the notion of 'the real deal', im just wondering if anyone has had experience of the screw fixing type and how they found it.....
