Had some snow eventually this winter. Stalking is hard when it is so crunchy, but still possible to get within range.

Today something a bit different. Prof J Simpson's and his lecture about deer diseases that was recorded during Urban Deer Awareness Day organized by SLDG and LDNS.
This is a really good talk with plenty of useful information for DMQ level 2 candidates and more experienced stalkers alike.
I hope you enjoy it.

Last week in April should be great time, good luck!

Nice video, also that is possibly the manliest beard I have ever seen! I have a pathetic patchy half ginger affair so now I'm not only jealous of your shooting but also your facial hair.
Keep the vids coming
Did not expect this kind of comments lol
great chance for bucks then all the younger bucks nocking about and you should connect with a few, I like to get in early and take them before being pushed off by the older bucks holding ground, atb wayne
+1
In forestry I stalk if we dont get them early we may never get them later on to complete the cull plan...
-
Many consider that to early if your after a good buck in Scotland, many will still not be ready in the head dept. good luck none the less and not everyone wants a trophy anyhow
Old buck should be clean, and end of April / early May is probably the easiest stalking when the cover is still not too high and buck starting to move about establishing territories.

Thanks for the link. I think I should bookmark it I get ask questions about the last bite each time I post a vid.
-
sorry for asking , I know you were showing respect of some sort at the end but is that a Scottish thing or something you do your self
No it is not really Scottish thing. Last bite tradition is very popular on the continent. I am not Scottish either, just stay here

That's the first time I have seen someone enter a high seat with a sleeved rifle at Stalking time, is it high seat only there?
This was invitation from a friend and he said there will be water on the seat so I thought I could sit on the slip if I have to. I know it looks weird.

Sorry I thought that it was the same one which returned. My apologies.
No that one was more experience and knew something was up. She also had a kid in tow I never saw after they ran... The second one showed up after 10-15 minutes. It helps if you watch it on YouTube with captions turned on you can see my comments that way.

You were fortunate to get a second chance at that doe.
This was not the same doe if that's what you mean

Two from a high seat

Went to the same area as before, but this time sat in a high seat. As I usually stalk I dressed up lightly and it was a mistake. It was really cold I was soon shaking like hell... I waited for them to come up close I would not risk a shot above 100m.
