  1. At the minute I have: Tain, Jura, Tia, Luner for the girls Freddie, Cruz, for the boys I try to keep the names different sounding, it helps when taking more than one dog at a time, as they are sent by name. Ian
  2. Looks a cracker. Good luck with your future training. Ian
  3. Glad you got sorted , look forward to the updates. Please post more details when you have time. Ian
  4. Have a look first before you make up your mind. Do some research on the dam and sire, ask around to see if anyone has seen them work, of check to see what pups they have produced in the past and how they are doing. I have kept pups for 12 and 14 weeks because of new owners holiday commitments, you could always ask if they could hang on to one for you a little longer, just make something up, give them a deposit, and that will give you a little longer to sort out the kennel and arrange some funds. Cheers Ian
  5. Please dont foget the health checks: Hips Eyes Elbows Should be done on both the dam and the sire's side. Optigen tested clear on either the sire or the dam I would recommend. There's nothing wrong with keeping dogs in the house, I prefer to keep them outside, and I find you get a better response from them when it comes to training. How far is newport fro you: Follow the link: http://classifieds.country-classifieds.com...e=;session_key= I also agree with Rickyspringer. Ian
  6. I would concentrate on sit and stay and lead work on and off. Just because you take the lead off it does'nt mean your dog can do a bunk. The main thing at this age is for him not to learn any bad habits. I would start training more towards the 6 month mark, you can do play training at 4 months, but don't try to hard, there is plenty of time. Ian
  7. The looks like a nice pup, like the markings around the eyes. What's it's breeding? Ian
  8. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Recession or not I have had no problem selling Jura's pups at £500, and Tia is due in middle of July, and I have already started a waiting list. So in my experience the price is not the issue, its what do want, and what are you prepared to pay. Before going to look at any pups I would want to see both dogs work or at least to have spoken to someone that has seen them work. Then I would go through the pedigree to see which dogs I liked and have heard good things about. If you want a dog to work, buy a dog to work, if its just for show then go for show type, but don't just by the farm cat because its local. I am sure there must be other breeders near to you that breed what you are looking for. Good luck in your search. Ian
  9. Due to a last minute cancellation I have two spaces available for my training day based just outside Peebles in the Scottish Borders if anyones interested. The details are on my website www.eshielsgundogs.com Thanks Ian
  10. Well done. Any more photo's, look like they have some good markings. Ian
  11. You would be better off getting his basics 100% first, before you start retrieving. I alway get my dogs recall 100% before I do any retrieving, along with sit and stays. Then i use a narrow alley way with one end blocked off, so the dog can only go one way out and one way back. Hitting a dog is not the way forward. work on positive reward. Good luck. Ian
  12. You could check out www.ukgundogs.org or www.planetgundog.co.uk or www.gundogfinder.com or www.sportinggundogs.com There is probably more, also links on my site to other kennels that may be near to you. Cheers Ian
  13. Depends on what you are looking for, but for a pup you should really expect to pay £400 - £1000 that is kennel club registered comes from good quality working stock, and the sire and dam have good hip, elbow, and eye scores. Feeding, I feed mine on Chudleys working crunch, I buy quite a lot so only pay £11.25 for a 20kg bag, but even if you buy one bag you should be able to get it for about £14.00 which will last you a couple of months. Puppy food is more expensive at about £15 a bag for 10 kilo bag, but you can ween them off this at about 8 months. Insurance, I don't insure my dogs, I just bank a set amount each month in to a savings account, and use that when needed. It works for me. Jabs, depend on your vet, mine charge £32 for the two. You'll need to worm the pup on a regular basis, then about 3 times a year. Cost of tablet for adults is £7, puppies use liquid with a syringe. Kennel for outside £200 Bowls £6 Bed £20 Slip lead £5 Dummies for training £4-£7 each Whistle £5 you might also want to get a game bag for carrying the dummies, starting pistol, books, dvd's, clothing, boots, water proofs, dummy launcher, the list goes on, but you can pick things up as you go along. Ian
  14. It's an up hill battle I know. Cheers Ian
