  1. It's a bit hard to act in a united way when a hunting organisation openly tries to poach members from a shooting organisation when it didn't have anyone full time supporting shooting or shooters. I really don't understand why shooters would pay similar subscription fees to an organisation that clearly is not dedicated to shooting but wants more members in order to support their other activities, and are prepared to poach from a shooting organisation sometimes with half truths and downright untruths.

BASC and CA are similar in size around the 100,000 - 130,000 membership size. BASC has 110 staff who concentrate almost totally on shooting and CA had none, until David T was employed a few months ago to give a total of 1 person.

As a BASC member, I have been approached by the CA to join them (sometime last year) and they did suggest that their package was better than BASC for shooters. That was obviously a load of bull. And on the 2 or 3 occasions when I have visited the CA stand at a game fair, there wasn't a gun in sight.

But is is good to hear that CA now supports people shooting foxes. That's a big change on a year or so ago when they were clearly anti-fox shooting.

But I would like an organisation to have somewhat more resources towards shooting than one member of staff before they are pitching themselves as an organisation worthy of £60 a year from shooters. Especially when for another £6, you can get the big guns of the BASC to help on any shooting related issue you might have. And it appears that David BASC sees his job as 24/7.

Why don't CA concentrate on their core areas, repealing the foxhunting ban and countryside issues like pubs and post offices? And let other organisations concentrate on their core areas.

Wonderfully worded you worthy of being the face of BASC on PW ,also though there is no harm in the CA trying to diversify into offering the shooters more and work towards that area building and becoming stronger but at this point in time it is clear they have not got the resources in place to challange the polices being put forward threating our sport and country way of life in the shooting sector.

But great grow from little acorns .

    Cheers OTH

  2. It is very clear there is some issues within shooting yes PW is good place to gauge shooting pepoles feeling on subjects .

But I also if I was a member of the BASC be intrested how my percentage of my membership that makes up your salary was spent .

And if that percentage was used to allow a BASC employee to engaged in open internet warfare with the CA REP ,was that employee using his paid hours at the BASC construtively in doing so.

Thats the only reason I asked David.

Sorry guys a bit of on a tangent to the topic.

    Cheers OTH

  3. Apart from the cost  ?

Seriously, its at the heart of the BASC message, if you can by the land you shoot over then do. Many wildfowling clubs have benefited from this over the years and now some inland shoots are stating to see the benefits.

BASC has a staff member dedicated to helping with finding land and helping you find funding that may help pay for it in part.

There will be others on here that know a damn site more about grouse than I do, all I know if that managing a moor is a full time job, but well worth it.

    David

Cheers David I am more of CA man at this point in time .

  4. Big switch to clover but have shot over winter wheat drilling this week and accounted for nearly 400 of one field in three days.

But they are pouring on clover first light on to clover leys under the big roosting woods then moving on and then having another go at the clover late afternoon before going upto roost my tip if roosting this week they deeking them, under the wood from 2ish with lofters in trees.

    Cheers OTH

  5. A tip for you boys the reason so many fail to kill with weedkiller is because ivy has oily leafs the weedkiller fails to do its wonders and fails to stop the phtocnysics SPELLING.

If you add fairy liquid to your roundup it helps the roundup penertrate the oil to the leafs and will work in the end but you will have a ongoing battle.

    Cheers OTH

  6. I also think BASC is the best suited to our needs I am not a members as my NFU trade policy covers my shooting and pest control .

There knowledge is 2nd to none on shooting the legal side.

But I also donate to BASC as I can see its vision for our sport is good and strong.

I not sure if DAVID BASC helps enrol new members on PW as his replies can be ebrasive for some.

Does not bother me as some view my opinions as ebrasive but the big diffrents is I am not the public face of BASC on PW forum.

  7. As far as I can see sweet F.A. is being done

Its could be us as a community who are doing sweet FA rather than BASC or CA or any other group that should be supporting our sport.

We can challenge goverment descisons, but not as single shooter but as a community be you a member of BASC or CA or NGO or even not a members of any them.

We got to unite on the matters that threaten our sport without inhouse fighting between ourselves EG which is the best insurance ETC.

    Cheers OTH

  8. With respect to shooters fears on any given subject say the lead ban issue.

Have any of you written to any shooting bodies or goverment bodies with your views .

How do we get our views ETC across to BASC or CA or goverment as it seems that posting about our fears for the future on our sport is only constructive if they take on board and report our views .

I have myself writen to my local MP on the subject of lead ban ETC.

    Cheers OTH

  9. Henry the biggest mistake to do is either plant the tree deeper or too shallow .

When you get the trees you will see the soil mark before it was removed this needs to be spot on when you plant them.

Also if you use bonemeal be careful not to have the bare roots in direct contact with the bonemeal as it can burn the roots.

A good old shovel of 6X is what I have used with good results .

    Cheers OTH

  10. I don't pay rent or council tax as my house comes with my job, but I say 40% goes on bills the rest I can spend on whatever but I am trying to save.

Wasn't oth just stating that he need not save money or pay uni fees as an option? If so why is everyone against him?

Forum buylling simple by the same old faces its lets beat OTH with a stick again time .

    Cheers OTH

  12. Good on ya Looking after your parent...Family is more important than money.

Times have changed since the days when normal working people had available money for savings and these are long gone unless you have a salary where you income exceeds your outgoings.

Many of the populous have zero or very little savings and live from hand to mouth and thats the way its going to stay unless the Government increases peoples available expenditure with serious and tangiable tax cuts...But lets be honest its not going to happen.

Expenditure is all relative..My best friend at school worked his way up in a major International bank from £11 quid a week when we started on our careers travelling to the local town aged 17 & 18 on the village charabang. He is now a president and CEO of a multi-national bank and lives in Switzerland 9 Months of the year. When he does get home for Holidays hes always complaining about the cost of things in Britain ( thats a joke living in Geneva :o ) claims he never has any money and I and other mates are always subbing him in the pub... hes got three houses and several cars even a couple of racehorses but as he says big income big commitments.

Hes probably taking us for a ride but as I say its all relative.. Does it make you happy?

We are all more content than he is and thats the honest truth.

As for what I spend my money on...I collect wristwatches, and Binoculars. Ive got far too many but ****** it you only live once...

The above quote is the reason I questioned the percentage as saving 33% of your income has got to be above the average.

    Cheers OTH
