  1. If you do have trouble getting it all back again just line up the two holes, remove one of the grub screws to see into the threaded hole, screw it in and the other holes should be nicely lined up. I also drop a little oil into the screw holes. Lots of screwing, holes and lining up there!! Have fun :good:

  2. I've shot 113 in the last three outings over lupins. They have just started dropping in on the clover that is showing through, after silage making, so I expect them to concentrate on that from now on. Then if I get to 'em they will go back to the lupins. There are also one or two on the grass fields, with the sheep, rooks and jackdaws. I shot the rooks quite heavily during the 'brancher' stage but they are with the sheep in the mornings and on the cut silage fields in the afternoon. They are also nicking feed in the pedigree Hereford calf creeps.

  3. The only time I had problems dismantling my Sak mods was the first time I took them apart. A light smear of oil on the bearing surfaces took care of that, and I've had no trouble since. Please be careful with the lead dust. I use an old 12 bore phosphor bronze brush to clean the cylinder, and baffle holes, but I'm VERY conscious of the dust!!

  4. A hart is a RED deer over five years of age. Don't believe every pub sign you see!! Even they get red and fallow mixed up.

    Red - stag and hind

    Fallow - buck and doe

    Roe - buck and doe

    Muntjac - buck and doe

    Sika - stag and hind

    Reindeer/caribou - bull and cow

    CWD - buck and doe

Moose - bull and cow............etc. etc.

  5. Red handle with a hook over a cup or ring. It looks as if you open it, by depressing the handle, then after placing the bird's head in the jaws, let go!! In the picture the handle seems to be squeezed shut with the hook hovering over the cup/ring.

I wouldn't buy one because I've dispatched wounded birds over many years. In the old days you were taught how to do it and I believe you owe it to your quarry to learn how to do it quickly and efficiently.

  6. I've got two Hawke 3-9X50 illuminated scopes on my CZ Varmint .22 and .17HMR rifles. I got them from Ramsbottom, just over a year ago, for £170 the pair, delivered. A great firm with prompt delivery and good service. Recommended.

  7. I've just come back, after seeing a flock of at least 100, feeding on lupins, at 5pm!! Intend setting up pm tomorrow. I wouldn't have seen them, but I forgot my stalking sticks and went back to get them. They were propped up against the gate, where I'd left them. Bit of a nuisance having to go back out again but hopefully I'll get a few pigeons tomorrow.

  8. I certainly shoot woodies all year round, and the fact that they are the most populous bird in the UK, (BTO survey) shows that, with every man and his mate out shooting them, there are still plenty about.

I make only one concession. If I identify young birds over the deeks I leave 'em alone. That's my conscience salved!!

  9. The latest research has got the British farmer off the hook. Apparently song birds are disappearing in Eastern Europe, where farming is not as intensive, and probably quite backward, compared to the west.

The 'experts' have blamed this on - yes you've guessed it - global warming!!

  10. As much as I love natural history and the countryside, I WILL not watch that poison dwarf!!! I also switch over, immediately, when his TV and radio adverts for B&Q come on.

  11. I clean the barrels every time I use it, with loo roll, (three sheets folded) on a split plastic jag, until it comes out clean. After about 3 outings I clean it properly with bore cleaner and a phosphor bronze brush, cleaning the action and lubricating, (sparingly!) I regularly take the chokes out, clean and lubricate, and replace. Occasionally I get a little linseed oil onto the stock to refresh it. Job done!
