  1. I was first introduced to shooting with my fathers old bolt action Webley & Scott 410. Eley Fourlong were the main cartridge I used first in paper case and later in plastic. I certainly never encountered and problems although I would have to get my father to check the gun to see what pressure it is stamped at.

Can't see any issues personally, but better safe than sorry.

  2. Shooting For Beginners by E N Barclay: No.3 in the shooting times library series, this book was published in 1963 by Percival Marshall @ Co. This book is an Ex library copy and as such has a sticker attached inside the front cover and a public library stamp on one the front pages too. The book is complete in its original unclipped dust jacket and all pages are fully legible. Looking for £9 posted

  3. As said number of birds will vary dependent on cover and possibly location, are birds likely to be drawn away by other food sources soon after release?

Some more info would be good and allow for a more accurate assessment of requirements such as, when and at what age are you looking to release?

How many birds did you have in mind when you built the pen?

  4. Best off going out and having a look for flighlines/ pigeon activity. Basic setup would include a gun, cartridges, decoys (plastic or dead birds) unless you can get under a flightline and down a couple to get you started. Some form of hide/cover, depends on your area as to wheather you can make a natural hide in a hedgerow, tuck in a ditch etc or cammo net supported on poles (wooden stakes or metal). If you use the search facility you'll find past posts which cover peoples preferences/setups. Hope this helps..

  5. With regard to the larsen a good nest of eggs (6+) in the catch compartment and one cracked on top of the call bird compartment assuming it has a solid top should do the trick. You may find that your first catch won't act as a good call bird though as magpies are territorial, may be worth sourcing one from out of the area.

    Good luck :good:

  6. What sort of impact on vermin numbers do people expect to see on a 1 day a week basis? To help wild pheasants would require controlling vermin, easiest way is to run tunnel traps, larsens, snares and the like which have to be checked daily, therefore not an option. Totally unrealistic expectations in my opinion. It may however suit someone with plenty of free time, willing to put in numerous days a week free of charge..
