Might need to put my tin hat on, but I'd be unsure of whether a tip was required if your rough shooting on someones land on your own. Is the keeper accompanying you, guiding you, flushing the birds or picking them up? If so then I would say a the £20 minimum is right.

It is an organised day, 6 of us in total and I would imagine the keeper will be accommpanying us. We are taking our own dogs as it is walked up, so we'll be flushing our own birds. Thanks for the advice.

  2. Thanks for the replies everyone

Away to head out to the shoot to see how everything is looking for Saturday. There could be some snow on the way which would be awesome.

My girlfriend has bought me a head camera for Christmas so I'm looking forward to posting some videos up from it.

Looking forward to the videos when you get the headcam.

Hopefully the forecasted snow arrives, could do with pushing the birds towards the feeders.

  3. To turn the video right way up you need to go in the settings and alter it there, strange it came with video inverted as factory it set correct.

My only issue with the little sj is that when battery is removed you need to reset the date every time. But iv put mine in the sea in the non water proof case and still works so fantastic little cam.

Can you post a pic of the front as you can tell a dicky from the front

Yeah that is a pain I must admit. When I am out I don't bother resetting the date, I was doing this one day when I heard pigeons landing in the decoys, so after that I said never again.

  4. I love your videos with the cliff sides, the ocean, the sky and the bird shooting is good as well. :)

You do get to tramp over some lovely countryside.

Cheers Cranfield. My in-laws live in Belfast city and they always tell me off for not appreciating the scenery where we live in the Glens of Antrim, but it certainly is stunning. The tramping is the hard part though, in some parts of the shoot the bracken & briars are head height, it has been so unseasonable warm, just need some frost to kill it off and push the birds towards the feeders.

Amazing scenery, well shot as always. Looks like a great place to shoot. Good vid.

    Cheers, thanks for watching.

This is the video from Saturday.

No the fox probably finished his meal and went and had a good sleep, the rifle was unloaded and shooting back down the hill wasn't the best idea, and regardless of that it was a Natural England reserve and they like their foxes alive.

Fair enough, as much as foxes are distructive they are also a wonderful animal that I have massive respect for.

I have seen a few owls whilst waiting for fowl to show, in fact Saturday morning I had a long eared owl try to land on the stone wall I was sheltering behind, he have been no more than a few feet away when he saw me. I think the most amazing or entertaining thing I saw was an otter trying to get hold of one of my mallard decoys, he tried his best but the decoy kept pushing away from him, he then left looking pretty disgruntled.

Saw a few otters before, but that must have been entertaining to watch

I was set up on the foreshore after geese one morning when 2 roe deer came down and walked along the shore right in front of me no more than 10 feet away foraging in the seaweed. I sat still for what seamed an age before they moved further on. Great to see.

I hope you got some geese too. :good:

  6. Good video. That's great woodcock country! It looks like you were in a different weather zone to South Antrim. It lashed on us. Until lunch anyway.

The camera looks good - I hope to try out my sj4000 this weekend.

It rained until about 11.30 & then it was great after.

It looks like good woodcock country, but we never get many on our shoot, an odd one here & there. I think the soil type isn't right or the cover is too tight.

I was impressed with the sj4000. The clarity is great compared to the 1000.

Great stuff as always Ollie love these walk up vids of yours thanks for posting.

Thanks for watching. Hopefully better days to come.

  7. Here is a video of our first proper outing on the pheasant syndicate this year. The weather was unseasonably warm & the cover is still high so we didn't have a great day.

The highlight of the day was a large pod of porpoises breaking the surface along the coast when we were shooting. Unfortunately a lot of them were too far out in the sea to pick up on the head cam, but you may notice some of them.

I was trying my new sj4000 camera for the first time & I was impressed by the clarity of it, especially considering how cheap it was.

    I hope you enjoy!!!

  8. Don't know about things I've seen but someone mentioned I'd put trail cams up on one shoot. The owner of said shoot (stables / paddocks) asked if I had and I told her no, wouldn't do that without asking as it's a very busy place with kids about. She (youngish, blonde and nice shape) said "Oh good, because I done some disgusting things in the woods" :w00t:

    What have I missed :cry1:

:lol: I think someone was hinting for you to video her

  9. I had a barn owl hover about 4ft above my head when I was trying to squeak In a fox. It hovered for a few seconds and then circled around and landed on a gatepost about 15yrds away. I never fired a shot that night, but it was the best night lamping I'd ever had!

Yeah I have had quite a few owl encounters while lamping. It is wonderful how quiet they are, you can't hear their wings and the next thing they are a few feet from you.

I have had numerous buzzards and a peregrine hit my pigeon decoys in the past, last year I shot a fallow doe, I stuffed the grallock down a hole in the rocks and covered it with debris, the ground is steep and rocky and on stopping for a rest I looked back down the hill to see a very healthy dog fox pulling the grallock out, but my number one was when I was in the hide with the decoys out on the stubble, the farmers teenage son came along the headland without seeing me but spotted the deeks, he found a stone and crawled to within throwing distance of the decoys, I made myself visible to him to his surprise and embarrassment.

On one of my videos I shot a feral pigeon & just as it dropped a peregrine swooped in and stole it, that was brilliant to see.

Did you shoot the fox that took the gralloch?

  10. Enjoyable vids some nice long shots and a nice left and right by your pal early in the vid :good:

Cheers fella. Yeah he shot well that day, but don't want to tell him that or he'll get a big head

Iv shot a few racers with rings on, if they drop in the pattern they are getting shot.

They are doing damage and you are asked to protect his crop simple.

Any you have shot with rings are probably stray racers that have gone feral. Loads of people who replied to this post on facebook told me that racers are no good if they are landing in fields.

  11. We were on our pheasant shoot for the first time this season at the weekend. Was a very warm clear day & the shooting wasn't great as the dogs were knackered.

Our shoot runs along the coast & the scenery is amazing. All of a sudden we look out into the sea and there is a massive pod of porpoises making their way up along the coast. They were breaking the water at regular intervals and they were spread out over a big area, some of them were beside the shore, some of them were at least 100 yards out. I can't imagine how many there was but I'm sure there was 100+.

I was wearing my headcam and hopefully i captured some of the footage, but I may have been too far away. I'm going to start editing the footage tonight, so we will see.

What special unique things have you saw in the field?
