  1. Mornin, take thing slowly as others have mentioned. i just made lots of noise around house, banging pots and pans etc every now and again to get him used to sudden noises.
  2. Hry there all was out on the pigeons there a while ago and mistakenly put wire to the wrong terminals on the battery and blew the fuse in the speed controller. Just got around to replacing the fuse and every time i connect to the battery, it blows. Magnet works without it but is too fast. Fuse is 5amp, (small glass type). connected to a 13amp for a couple of seconds to see if controller was working and it worked. I opened the controller to see if any wires were touching but none were. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. thanks all
  3. Hi there I have a GSP who up until 1 1/2 years old was an abolute nightmare. Do brilliantly one day, the next did what he wanted. Had problems with recall to point where he would not bother coming back to me. Had occasions of upto 2 hours in my local park trying to get him back on lead. wouldn't run off, would stay feet away, out of reach. At these times would still do everything, stop and sit on whistle, search and retreive to about 2 ft away from me. We had a bambino of couple of months at time and the wife couldn't walk him so i had to do and then majority of time was on lead. Crups of it came when he got out side gate and was playing with the traffic. when wife went out, he stuck 2 claws up at her and ran to local park, got him back eventually but wife wanted to get rid. As i had put lots of time and work into him and believe it or not, was attached to him, i borrowed a ecollar as a last resort. Used it overall for about 3 mths and had to use shock on it i would say probably 10 times. Had a vibrate button which i used most but again not so much. He is 2 and a bit now and is a diamond. Fab indoors and does everything i ask of him, well nearly everything. No probs with recall now will return each time. Haven't used the collar in about 5 months. Really didn't want to use one but it was a situation of having an energetic working dog that couldn't be let off the lead or who we had to get rid of. Real test will be during the seaon but have been in areas where birds are and although distracted, he does what is asked. GSP's are very strong willed and i feel mine was trying to be top dog all the time. Perservere and you will really have a great dog who will be great company. I see yours has meadowdale in him, Kane or Hurricane i have seen and is a beautiful dog. Breeze, Hurricane sister is my GSP's mother. Very good pedigree and very strong urge to work. BE patient introducing to game etc, get basics out of the way first. best of luck

  5. Plucked and gutted 1 st goose this evening, blooming eck it was hard work, and the smell was bloody awesome!! quick question, goose is a grey lag, when done the meat through the skin appeared a little greenish, i presume its normal but thought i would check. goose has been hung for bout 5 days. ta all
  6. Hey all Shot my first Goose this evening, overhead, 1st shot, dropped like a rock and missed me by 5 feet!! nobody said anything bout wearing a helmet!! Sent the dog to pick it up (wanted to test him with a big bird, poo'd himself as was still moving and wouldn't go near it, bloody great (shot a duck after and he would pick it up!). good nite, had a fox also! Goose is a greylag, question, are they good to eat! thanks
  7. Gamekeeper friends got his birds on Saturday and on checking and feeding on sunday, we discovered 10 had died. Probably down to very wet night and a bit cold. 5 of the 10 birds had been got at by something as they had their heads removed, cleanly gone and no traces of them anywhere. any ideas what may have done this. thanks
  8. hey there Have heard of the GLP but know nuffin bout them. Have a 2 yr old GSP who i must say is the absolute best and wouldn't be without him. Ask me 4 mths ago would hve given a very differnt outlook. GLP being GERMAN and a POINTER, the first 2-3 yrs will be hell, they are very independantband hyper ain't the word, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperacdtive disorder) and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) are more like the phrases i would use. U know those kids out there who have criminl careers the length of a till roll b'fore they are 13, well thats a GSP until 2-3 yrs. i konw its the same for GWP so cant imagine a GLP being much different. if you don't like the hyper'ness of a springer or a cocker, pointers are very highly strung and need as much stimulation. If mine misses a days walk , i do notice it the next day. Don't mean to put anyone off pointers as i luv my boy to bits and will always be a shorthaired pointer man. I have been very close to getting rid of him and am very grey cos of him.
  9. Don't use PAYPAL an ymore myself. Sold two items to the value of nearly £100. 90 days later person reversed payment stating they never received items and PAYPAL are now demanding money back. All this despite explaining that i never had any emails stating no good received. £100 lotta money these days!!!
  10. Mine was on it as a pup and didn't get on with it. Was HYPER and uncontrollable and tended to have the runs quite often. Have him on CSJ which i have found great. No hyper mode after eating, more controllable overall and solid throughout.
  11. Heres mine 2 years old now and hopefully i am over the worst of it! Fingers crossed!!!
  12. Ta guys, will do a little ringing around
  13. Hi all Quick question, have a small car which i use for travelling to work and also to go on my pigeon shooting outings. I need the car as tis a small diesel and have a long distance to travel to work. Problem is firstly getting the dog and all the pigeon gear in is a tight squeeze, secondly, getting a bit tired of having to lug the gear miles because of not being able to get on a field. Sometimes have to abandon an outing due to the only place to park is on a main road and have had people questioning what i am doing as i get the gun etc out! would like to get a 4X4, prob is would need to be a cheapy and preferably a second car as couldn't afford the fuel on a weekly basis. Anyone know of an insurance policy that allows to have two cars on it but only drive 1 at a time!!
  14. Tried different foods with my GSP, Royal Canin, Burns, Well beloved and more. He couldn't get on with any of em. Changed to CSJ, best food so far. Always solid poo and no wind problems like the others! He is a fussy ****** so have to mix with sardines in oil every now and again which helps with shiny coat.
  15. I'm sure he is a secret Kebab eating $%&*. No sorry that reclaimed meat or maybe he's eating VEGATARIAN kebabs, thats reclaimed vegatables!!!!. Get the BBC filming the like of what the Sweeneys do (very sorry if i am highlighting you guys (but am SO impressed, actually jealous cos tis a family affair). But serves a purpose and i for one am at the start of the family thing am looking forward to giving my son (6mth old so long off) the choice(no choice) in the food chain/eating process. So impressed by the sweeneys ,have wanted to buy a meat grinder etc but need top get the right un, hint, hint nudge nudge!!!!!
