  1. Was -4 on the car thermometer when I left for the marsh this morning. The temperature did rise until the sun come up and it turned cold again.

Not looking forward to the 130 mile round journey to get my daughter back to Norwich tonight in this freezing fog.

Peter. The area you are talking about sounds wonderful.

  2. Most of the idiots come in on the moon with the geese. Not all, some made it earlier but you could tell as they usually stand out from the rest as they like to go places you can't get on a tide or they stand around or wander about aimlessly. Most of these are new idiots. The sooner the new breed of idiots is wiped out the better for wildfowling sake.

  3. When we got married back in 1980 we did have a wedding list as we didn't have a lot of stuff as all our money had gone on the house we had done up and the bigger things for the house. Many of the things we had were begged or second hand. The things on the wedding list were all smaller items and those who didn't wish to buy a small gift didn't. Made no difference as we didn't invite people because we wanted gifts we invited people we wanted to share our day.

We couldn't afford a limousine or posh transport for the Mrs to arrive at the church in, a farmer from over the road had a white rover car and he bought the wife to be to the church. The reception was at the village hall were we had done our own catering with the help of a few relatives. Our honeymoon was 4 nights in Filey in the Downcliffe Hotel which was more like a B & B. We had saved a bit for that. I look back and would not change a thing.

Just enjoy your day as that is the best part of it, not all those fancy spas etc.

Good luck for the day and the future

  4. One of the girls in our office got married last year and requested money. I thought this would be ok as they could buy things they wanted. Little did I know I contributed to paying for a honeymoon in the Maldives.

To make matters worse when my son did a half marathon for dementia charity she would not even sponsor him for a quid. Lesson learnt.

  5. Well I have been lucky. I got one of the pigeon watch shooting chairs. New Stanley flask. Tickets for me and the wife to see war horse in drury lane London (son and fiancé coming too) new coffee making machine with all the equipment. Sloe gin and the usual sweets..wine gums..sports. The best bit is having all the family together.
