I have a similar gun in the guise of a no4 boxlock with 26" barrels. Open chokes and very light. I like to think I shoot well with it. Considering my other guns are auto's with 30" barrels it's quite a difference but I love taking it out. It's just so nice to shoot in the hide, and on game days. I will be taking it roost shooting later even though the trees are very high. It just feels great as is fast to handle. Like already stated they are no longer fashionable so some good bargains to be had. The engraving is good and have oil finished stocks. They are proven and reliable.

Black and blue last night but this morning gold and white. That's without any booze

I often see a guy with a young spaniel doing lead work on my way to work. He was using a long lead and was spinning the lead slowly in front of him and the dog if you get the picture. I've not used this method myself but I guess it would discourage the dog from pulling. I much prefer the gentle approach myself and bigbird seems to have it right in my eyes.

Personally if I was buying a gun private I would want to view it before I paid for it so I would go and view with my licence with me for if the gun was as described. I would not send my certificate to someone I don't know as it could be anyone on the other end of an advert. If the gun was to far to travel to view it I would look for one closer by.

you take some stick Mat.
ps. how do you teach a dog to retrieve nothing .....
They stay happy when the cake tin comes out 😂

If like my last decoying foray I see loads of pigeon in the wood near the rape and loads on the rape. I scared them off and watched a steady flow trickle back. So set up and waited....and waited...and waited. I quit with 6 in the bag.

Thanks for the explanation jdog. The farms I shoot don't really grow beans but I have shot beans a few years ago just drilled in April/may.

The swivel seat sold on here are good. I have had mine since Christmas and have used it a few times and now I've given the legs a squirt of wd40 and made a small strap to stop the back of the seat flapping about when storing the legs it's a great bit of kit. Comes in a storage bag. No cheap but worth the money.

You learn something every day. Didn't know you got beans this time of year. Always though they were drilled in spring and harvested late summer. Oh well something else to remember.

Tony you jogged my memory. Think I have a spare 1/4 and spare full.
Browning invector plus fit sx3 and sx2.

It is very easy to start pointing the finger at your equipment when the birds don't behave how you want them to.
Another good bit of advice 😂😅😆

Place a half shell decoy on top of the battery "sorted"

I use 2 turbo flappers for when the rape is a bit taller and the decoys are a bit harder to see and they work well. I won't say they work every time because some days the pigeons are just not interested but that's the same with rotary machines and decoys.

They must be easier than the pinks on the marshes I shoot or I need to stop falling asleep or get to specsavers.

Good picture of Uncle Albert. Where did you hide the zimmer frame he has for the dodgy knees ?

I've also been thinking what jack put and not sure how to read the not bothered bit in reference to vermin/sport bit. And as fenboy said the pop at the high ones too.
I will try and help you a bit. Respect your quarry whatever the circumstances. Don't be tempted to pop away at the high ones because those birds could turn into your wood which will help your bag. If you pepper them or injure them they will only fly off to a long lingering death. although they may be classed as an agricultural pest they are still a very sporting bird. If they wasn't there would be far less people trying to obtain shooting and very few shooting them.

Tipex works too.

You can't beat a nice sxs sidelock with oil finished walnut stock for looks.

When I recently renewed my sgc I was asked who else lived in the house, names and date of birth of these too. I was asked about if I was on medications or if I had diabetes etc. I was more than willing to provide the answers as I feel it's a privilege to own guns and store them in my home. I've known of two tragedies in the last few years involving close friends and guns so if by answering some questions that they feel may be relevant in the hope of possibly preventing this sort of thing happening in the future I don't object at all.

Beretta do a silver lark for normal cartridges too I believe.

I've had a decent season and had a mixed bag. Put in quite a bit of time and been rewarded for that. I've had the pleasure of taking out Old Farrier and his friend John. Richie10 and shootgun. Also three guys from the Crown shoot (paul223. Paul and philmypower). It's was a pleasure to take you guys. I also met Ben (grandalph) and Charles on a trip into norfolk, thanks again for taking us. For any young wildfowler reading this people like Ben are a role model to our sport. I have also had the displeasure of meeting a few John Wayne types too. Hopefully they are already bored with the sport and decided to try something different. Kamikaze pilot is fun if you are one of those aforementioned. So its been a good season.

Mine will get a good rest with the way the pigeon shooting is going. If I asked her if she wanted a rest or come shooting I know the answer.

You will not regret buying it. Even if you just take it from the cabinet to look at it then put it back. I'm bias but they look far better than modern mass produced guns. Enjoy.
