  1. Lincs police have a backlog. Mine has been in since the beginning of December and they have until tomorrow to get my new one to me which they promised last week. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. It didn't help the process that they received my cheque but lost it. They don't like to issue temporary certificates as they said it takes longer to do a temp one than an original.

  2. I made the mistake of not letting my dog use its nose just after christmas on a pheasant shoot. I run the beating team on the shoot but one if the guns called on me with a wildfowling dog. He had shot 3 snipe on the marsh drive and marked them all. His cocker and springer were not too keen on the freezing cold small river they had to cross so it was up to me and my fox red lab to help. One other guy tried to get his dog over but after every swear word know to man directed at the dog he quit. So after his foul mouthed tirade (no I didn't like the guy) it was my turn. I sent rhia straight back to where the gun had directed me, he had used a fence post as a marker. After many times of stopping the dog on the whistle and getting her what he believed was the right area I was at a loss. I then thought he must be wrong and just let the dog do her own thing. The gun had only used the wrong post as marker in the excitement. So we ended up with all three snipe from quite thick undergrowth in the bag. It was really nice to find all three in front of an audience of about 8 people. It made it all the better as the guy who had no idea about how to treat a dog was looking on and actually congratulated the dog on some excellent work. I somehow resisted saying what I wanted to...which really makes a change ...and just a said all in a days work for a wildfowling dog.

  3. I'm not sure the turnover in the club I'm in. What I am mindful of is that most clubs need younger blood but the right ones. Clubs who do wish to keep a good membership can't sit on their laurels and work on word of mouth to get new applicants. Historically that worked but not any more. It's not just wildfowling that suffers. Other sports have also suffered. It's a lot to do with having far more opportunities to do many other things now. When I was a kid all I had was my bike, a half flat football and a 177 Dianna. Now all the tricks I got up to when I was a kid is done sat at a games console so the going out and doing it has gone.

Stick me on the waiting list I.

  4. Thanks WW I know we both do our bit for the sport and for those coming into it as novices. I always think a little knowledge is dangerous. Much rather help some who admits to knowing naff all. I can live with a thousand and one questions. The only stupid one is the one not asked. I'm by no means an expert but over the few years I've been shooting the wash. ..I think I started around 1980 ish ...I've learned a bit. Thankfully I'm still learning. I try to pass on some of that to those willing to listen. I've also met some who know better too. Thankfully they seem to disappear as quick as they come.

There used to be a quote in Shooting Times that stuck in my mind...The wild life of today is not ours to dispose of as we please. We have it in trust. We must account for it to those who come after.

WW. Hopefully some of those we have lent a hand to over the years will do the same to help future generations.

I already have next seasons novice booked in. I know this one will be good.

  5. I believe one day all the wash group clubs will integrate. Maybe not in the near future but in time I think it will happen. I see no wrong in sharing what we have, morally or not. We need to be prepared as we already know we are being monitored and watched from many angles. United we stand decided we fall.

  6. Totally agree with WW its not always about the money im a member of south lincs and another club on the wash and ive had some good times this season hope everyone has a good last 20 days

    Martin

You been piggy backing uncle Albert ??

  7. Holbeach also offer new inexperienced members 6 trips fully guided by experienced members. Obviously you are experienced and if you proved that on the application you could go it alone but it's good to go with someone initially to find some of the better/safer places.

Officially we cannot guide anyone so I will correct myself and use the correct wording. The new member would be assisted in the time period to see if they have enough experience to go alone. (thanks for the heads up mate).

  8.

He has not tried to drown you yet then? Browny thought he was going to one evening flight two seasons ago!

Dont think he's been since then. Wasn't sure if it was the tide or being eaten alive by the mozzies to the point of having sick time off work 😂

  9. As stated the bolt should be opened and locked back. I had the same problem with a friends sx3 he recently purchased. Never been stripped and clean. Find some soft wood and small hammer. Hold the gun by the barrel (get assistance to do this) put the wood on the end of the magazine and tap with the hammer. Plenty of oil where the barrel fits to the action and it should work free. Remember the end of the stock must be off the floor. Hope this works for you.

Obviously this is with the forend and mag nut removed.
