Tobacco in the eye on a windy day

So far for me its,
winchester brass,
winchester small rifle primer,
12.4 grains of lil gun,
35 grain v-max bullet,
COL 1.723 and crimped with a Lee factory crimping die.
This load gives me half inch groups at 100 yards through my CZ 527.

I have a 30-06, it was my first CF. I got it thinking it would cover me for whatever I wanted to shoot in Britain and a lot more besides. The only deer I have shot so far is roe and with a 180gr soft point it obviously downs them but it does so with very little meat damage, as I read somewhere, you can eat right up to the hole. With no deer here in Shetland my knowledge of deer and deer shooting is very limited but knowing what I know now and after purchasing a 6.5x55 not long ago I wish I hadn't gone so big for my first CF. I hate to admit it but I think the only thing I gained from getting a big shooter was recoil shyness, it took a while to realise it and it took a while to overcome it but I still jump a bit the when having the first shot of a rifle I haven't shot before. As Kent says a .243 with the right bullet choice will do for any deer in Britain. If I could get a decent price for my 30-06 I would sell it now I have the 6.5x55 as I have no real need for it and the swede is an absolute pleasure to shoot compared to the 30-06. I have no doubt that with a mod and a decent recoil pad my 30-06 would be nicer to shoot as there is nothing soft at the butt at all its just wood right out.

RC50's are a very good shell IMO. The 0's through half choke are devastating on geese. My all time favourite shell was the remington nitro buffered all singing all dancing copper plated 1 7/8oz american 2 but after my RFD's stock ran out and he found out the price of them now he wouldn't take them in again.

Yes and it bit my little finger so and had to let it go again, little finger on the right hurt for ages.
As soon as we set off I had a feeling he was in it for the £££££.
He steamed out of the harbour a bit, set up on a drift, we caught very little while he sunbathed in a semi awake state and made no attempt to try anything to put fish in the boat. I know when fishing, like hunting, you cant guarantee anything but I also know when someone is ripping off tourists.

We are heading out to Gran Canaria in a couple of weeks and was looking at fishing trips, I would love to try fishing for marlin. Has anyone on here been to Gran Canaria and been fishing? Any recommendations?
I am a bit dubious after being had in New Zealand.

sorry guys the TV is destined for the skip. I set it out last night and was going to pack it up today and one of the kids knocked it over and it landed screen down on the plug which damaged the screen

Interested to hear about carcass damage using the v-max, do you know the velocity? Cant get 35's shooting well very far out in my own CZ so am still wondering how explosive they are on bunnies
I havn't tried them through the chrono yet but they are quite messy, I am guessing 2850-2950fps, the PPU soft points are less devastating. These homeloads are giving me 3/8" at 100yds but 2" at 200yds.
Thats alot of rabbit, sold them?
I can get £1.50 a head shot rabbit. That 150 count would of been a nice earner!

Last night the furthest shots with the hornet were no more than 150 yards, at that range I was aiming high but still on fur.

Scarvister picked me up last night around 7.15 and we headed out for a lamping session. We had a great night with some good shooting. Scarvister was picking up what he shot with the .22 for feeding ferrets/birds with and we left what was shot with the hornet. I was really pleased with my 35gr V-max homeloads, anything in the lamp was just point and shoot which was what I was after when buying the hornet. Scarvister was using his new to him CZ .22 with a hawk scope and SAK silencer which was oh so quiet compared to the un-moderated hornet. We finished at 11.30 after a successful night (except for the hinge breaking on the back door of the disco) with 117 rabbits and I was glad to see no evidence of myxy which was in the same area not that long ago. Scarvister has better pics he might put up later but here is one off my phone.

The stoats up here go white in the winter with the black tip on the tail. I have a ermine stoat beside a taxidermist just now and a stoat in his summer coat in the freezer for stuffing too. when I get them both done I will post some pics.

Myself and scarvister went out with his ferret today and had a slow but great day out. There is two big warrens on the land which the 40 nets we had couldn't cover. We netted as many holes as we could and I stood by with the .410. Not many rabbits bolted, if I remember right we had just 8, 3 in the nets and 5 with the shotgun.
After that I went for a quick walk while scarvister took the disco round to where we were going next. I bagged 10 rabbits on my walk. As I was walking through the long grass a rabbit bolted from my foot which I missed but killed another rabbit which I hadn't seen, just shows how many rabbit are there.
We met up again and took the ferret and the .410 but this time we didn't bother with nets just walked along and any holes we came upon we stuck the ferret down and waited. This worked well for us. After about an hour we had bumped the bag up to 32 rabbits then called it a day.
I don't have pics of all the rabbits as we didn't pick them all up, but here is a couple of photos, nice scenery.

Looks excellent mate i fancy a Tikka T3 Lite in 223 although how do you find your A Bolt? Theres some good deals on them these days

I love my browning A-bolt as it is super accurate with my home loads, but I have to agree with rich in saying the tikka has a better feel to it. If I was going for another .223 to do a lot of foxing/rabbiting where the gun is in and out of pickups and rattling around on a quad I would go for another A-bolt and some really good glass to put on top Very good value for money, there is a new one on guntrader just now for £499.

Totally agree with redgum. I started with the lee breech lock challenger kit, lee dies and have added a few bits as I went along like the RCBS scales and so far I have had good results with the set up I have. I had no one to show me the ropes but have managed fine so far and still have all my fingers and my face, just follow the loading manuals and don't believe everything you read on the internet. The internet is a great place for info and youtube has helped me a lot but again don't take everything as gospel. I am sure that if you don't know anyone that can help you the good people of PW will help where they can.
