my two highlights of the past season were getting out with my friend and his big bores. the first time he was down he armed me with his double four (top pic) with which i had 5 greylags, had a great morning with him. he had his double 8 and got 4 geese.
the next time he was down he gave me a shot of his purdey 10 bore, beautiful old gun. i had 2 greylags that morning. i always enjoy getting out with him and his stunning old guns. fingers crossed if we are both spared next season we can enjoy another morning under the geese.

"whether its 2 birds or 200 coming in, pick your bird before you lift your gun". my uncle always told me this when i started wildfowling, nothing worse as when a decent flock of birds takes you by surprise and you dont know which to shoot and by the time you shoot, its too late.

i took my wife shooting twice and i vowed never again
. the first time was lamping with the hmr and she shot 5 rabbits with 5 shots and said "that will do, i dont want to ruin my 100% record" :o . a LONG time after i took her to have a go at some clays and with her first shot with a shotgun she hit 5/6 clays :o. she now mocks me when i come back with an empty bag because apparently "shooting is very easy" :o. -
what about shooters ridge bipods, anyone use them?

this last season we turned up at a barley field to do battle with the geese, took the decoys, blinds etc etc out of the disco............... no gun

following on from my friends howa post, he is now considering which moderator to buy. the two he is looking at is the sonic 45 or the ase utra s5. does anyone on here have anything to say about either of these moderators?, if so any input would be appreciated, thanks again

we have just finished putting together his rifle and scope, a nikon prostaff 3-9x50 BDC. seems a nice set up, the trigger is brilliant, nice and crisp with no creep and we checked the forend with a bi-pod on and the barrel was free floating which was good. thanks for all your input

mostly 1/4 but for geese i might use half and for night flighting duck i will use skeet. my do it all choke would be 1/4.

a friend of mine is looking at buying a .223 and is interested in a howa, what do all you howa owners think of your howas, thanks for your input, aister

we used to roast all the ducks and geese i shot until a friend told me to try boiling them instead, i tried it and never looked back. mallard boiled till its falling off the bone (couple of hours at least) is very very good, not as strong compaired to roasting but it still tastes like wild duck only it falls apart in your mouth and is really juicy. i tied roasting duck all sorts of ways and the thing that always got me was you could take it out of the roast tin to carve and it was lovely and tender and juicy and by the time it was on the table it had dried up and gone like boot leather, not so with boiling. it doesnt sound great, i know i turned my nose up at first, but after trying it, as i said, we never looked back.

i havnt actualy shot one but i have handled the t-bolt a few times, my RFD owns one and he loves it. i think if i was to ever get a 17hmr again it would be a t-bolt.

good stuff, i bet its good fun. i have always fancied an underlever just for something different, think it would have to be a 30-30 though. enjoy

what i usually put there is "see attached notes" then along with your application put in copies of your permission slips. put in copies only, i have sometimes got them back other times i have never seen them again. good luck

it has to be wildfowling for me
. although i have been roe stalking a few times down on the mainland and have really enjoyed everything about it. i really want to try a red up in the hills some time, mayby next year if i get the house extension built first (have to keep her indoo.... er i mean my darling wife happy) -
crackin pics once again. good lookin birds, never shot one as we dont get them here in shetland unless the odd one or two passing through.

went for a walk today with the .22 since the sun was shining for a change, the rabbits were sitting well but i was strugling to see them as the sun was getting lower all the time. i would've been better with the shotgun but i was keen to get out with my new scope i got off the bay, a leupold 6x42. max was chuffed to get out as the weather has been rubbish lately. i ended up with 25 after just over an hour, there is two rabbits that did'nt make the photo shoot.
