  1. I love driving and run a heavily modified MX5. Love the feedback i get and just the freedom of going where i want when i want. Its not uncommon for me to be out on the moors with the roof down & daft o'clock in the morning. Even a 10 minute drive home from work can on a summer/winter evening often turns into a 2hr run out.Take this away from me and you might as well send me to my grave.I don't smoke, drink, gamble or shoot anymore and motoring is the only enjoyment i have in life.56 yrs old now and was hoping to motor on for another 20yrs. I'm more concerned about the PAY AS YOU GO attitude that local authorities are trying to impose than the high tech future. Have to get a modified mobility scooter lol, and rip up the pavements.

Newcastle are trying to impose a £16 per day charge within a 20 mile radius of the city. How many other authorities  plan to follow?

Was looking at getting a smallish 4x4 as a second car for knocking about the shoot, visits to the local marsh etc...looked at the Suzuki grand vitara 3 Dr  1.6 petrol...there's plenty about for up to approx 3k which is my budget...now the question, does any of the PW massive have the said vehicle and if so is it the thumbs up or thumbs down on recommendation...any comments welcome....atb...misser

sills, sills, sills, very expensive replace, might look ok from the outside but inner sill can go that will also means out replace. No patterned parts so its a  fabrication £300/£400 done properly.Great car though had one as shooting wagon before going on to a  Jimny

I’ve got a 12 plate (new body style) 200. Mine has been remapped up over 240 bhp and it is a fantastic car.  It is my daily driver and my weekend fun car all rolled into one.  With a couple mods it is a fantastic car.  For me, Smartop, a good wind deflector, the remap, and an under seat subwoofer have transformed the car from good and fun to great and a blast. The MOT flew through just today and with 70k on the clock there isn’t a single issue that it has had.  I’ve put tires on it twice, haven’t yet changed the brakes, gone through a couple head lamp bulbs (I drive with them ‘on’ all the time) and that’s it.

If you you want to get a little crazy the amg 43 and 55 are a bit wild.  I drove the 43 2 weeks ago for a couple hours and it is very rapid.

    thanks,

    rick

Stick a set of Tein coilovers on it mate and a a full PROPER 4 wheel alignment.Get the alignment done by someone who knows what they are doing. You will have a go cart.

  4. If you mean SLK, i like them.Had a drive of the SLK AMG 200 and the 250.The deisel is noisy but plenty of mid range grunt. The petrol is the one to go for as the cost of diesel  is going up and up.I'd love a 200 but I've spent far to much money on my 5 to start all over again. The quality of the Merc is just great,no rattles or knocks at least with the two i drove.

Go for it mate you only live once & open top motoring is addictive.

Done the course twice - if you learn anything from the course then you shouldn't really be on the road - it's common sense but the braking distances are way out in regard to modern cars. Both my crimes were for 34 in a 30 - my speedo needle covers that amount - ultimately its still a money spinner - pretty sure the police get a claw back of the monies paid.

Sorry mate,I'm not being funny but that's a daft statement to make 'If you learn anything from the course then you shouldn't be on the road'

So if you already know what  the impact an extra 5mph can have. Why did you get done a second time?

  6. There were about 30 on my course. The guy was great, he didnt talk down to us or belittle  anyone. What i found more shocking than the course was the 12% that hit the 'i didnt learn anything from the course' button at the end.Wonder if they would of been man/woman enough it hadn't been anonymous.Agree with triumphat59 comment, that even if you take the points the course should be compulsory.

  7. I did the course a few mths back.Done on the road out of Gateshead.Dual carrageway fenced off from the public & doing 57 in a 50

I initially  thought i was badly done too. However my opinion changed when i did the course.Very worth while course and an eye opener to what an additional 5mph can make in an accident.Made me realise how complacent I'd become.

    Were they BOTH blonde?

One was blonde, the other 'keyless woman' was brunette. You know when you just get that 'empty' look when you as someone something. You just think 'oh this is going to get entertaining'

  9. Popped into Suzuki today and got blocked in.New Vitara parked right in front of my car.So i popped into reception and asked if said car could be move. Two young girls then went looking for keys. One came back waving a fob so i went and got in my car.Moments later i saw the hazards blink and the young girl get in the Vitara.2mins later nothing happening, 5mins later still nothing. She then gets out and comes over apologizing"the key fob doesn't have a key its just a fob".Before i could stop her she's heading off back to reception, reappearing with her other friend. Both approach the car with very puzzled  looks on their faces.Still no go,just a lot of head nodding and finger wagging as they struggle to start the car.I gets out the car again to advise 'THE REASON IT HAS A FOB AND NOT A KEY IS,BECAUSE IT HAS A START BUTTON WITH THE WORDS START BUTTON ON IT'

Saw a new take on this the other year. A mate (as I understood his invention )had a piece of 4" plastic drain with end caps. The front had 12" length of plastic outlet pipe glued/welded into the centre and into the back plate he'd fitted a gas igniter (I think that's what he called it). He'd put a small spud in the front outlet, unscrew the rear end cap, squirt in quick start (from a car bar) into the drainpipe, refit end cap and wallop the gas igniter thus propelling  the spud forward at a rate of knots. He was in his md 40's so boyhood fun with things that go bang seems hard wired into our psyche.

Watched a guy on Youtube last night make one.Shot it through the wing on a scrapped car.

Ditchy  can you imagine a kid today going home, shoes ruined with stab marks sock all cut and feet bleeding. The mother what on earth you been doing ohh throwing knives at eachother seeing who can get closest, it was great fun mother. Be all hell on,police called the lot.

Never mind shooting eachother with airguns lol

    Davyo them were the days.

If you got a clout for doing wrong you didn't tell your parents when you went home because you'd get another.

Haha was mad in my house, dad would belt me,mam would belt him.Dad would go to the pub for a week.Gran would go up the pub and kick off with dad.Grandad would kick off with gran.I would get no pocket money for a month. So id play the dinner nick at school & spend me dinner money. Then id get caught, get the cane.Go back home and it would all kick off again.Loved Grandad he would call me dad a anchor and let me smoke his pipe.

Old bootlaces with the inner cords pulled out were ours. Probably very similar stuff Ditchy.

Reading this thread has me chuckling remembering the things we got up to.  Learned about risk assessment the hard way, and you never forget it.

Beans or tinned mushy peas Into a camp fire with no one else knowing as they all sit round it, boom all screaming as bits of fire are blown everywhere and all  burnt from scalding hot beans or peas stuck to you. The fun we had.

You all must have made bogeys out of two planks of wood and pram wheels nailed on, string for steering front cross member bolted through the front of the plank.

I ran old Mrs Patterson over on mine, that's when the plank snapped. She fell on top of me  and the  bogey went crack.Old Mr Patterson bashed me with the crook end of his walking stick. Then my dad belted me when he got home from Pit.

My best toys were french arrows, made with bamboo, 6" nail sharpened and rammed in the end. Turkey feather for flights. Get a good 150 yard out of one.

Next was gaffa taping cheap fireworks on to arrows, and launching from a rubbish recurve bow i had. Get a mate to light it and see how far they go. Needless to say we never found any.

Did anybody ever make the bakedbean Bazooka? Brilliant fun, how we never lost fingers ill never know.

Catapult fights which progressed to gat guns and g10s.

. 22rf in pliers and hitting with a hammer. Very dodgy, we gave up after half a box and lobbed the rest on the bonfire. Run.

    I loved being 13 😂

Lol, i couldn't help my self last summer. Her in doors went in the house after a barbi.I'd had a bit to drink & nipped in the garage and grabbed a empty aerosol and lobbed it on.She comes back out,i panicked & tried to stop her  coming up the garden  & BOOOOM!!! She nearly had an heart attack. A bit of shrapnel puts the glass out in the greenhouse & i end up in the doghouse.

  14. Pea shooters fights, gats fights, bows and arrows.Ended up in hospital with an arrow stuck in my temple once. Daft thing was i was supposed to be one of the Indians.Big brother tried to pull it out but it was stuck.Snapped it off like in a cowboy films, ended up just making it worse.

Controversial now but every kid used to have an egg collection.Every day in the Summer we would go nesting. The golden rule was only take one egg.We where never in the house in those days.

Used to hate Sunday bath night & bit like Monday mornings now.We never had much as kids but we always had plenty to do.Great days, really great days!

  15. 1st thing i did when i turned 50 was get me and the wife's funerals paid for.Nowt flash, just the CO OP once paid & done thing. Now 56 but i review my will every couple of years.Mortgage has been paid off since 1991 so young Ben should have a decent start in life.

He's already been told to get something put in place if he marries to protect his inheritance.

I had a Focus 1.0 ecoboost recently as a courtesy car. Supposedly 60+mpg. I had the average mpg down to low 40s by the time i gave it back and I wasn't even caning it. Went well enough though.

I used to drive the wifes ecoboost gently and easily average 57/60mpg on a run with CC set at 60mph.Thing was a tad over 2k rpm.

Wife on the other had used to  rag it about and only average 40/45ish. You cant help yourself to be honest as the boost from the little turbo is addictive.

She now runs a 2017 Suzuki Ignis (little white thing in my avitar)(was mine but she took it)Cracking little 1.2 dueljet engine, smooth and very comfortable car.I had it down York a few month back & it averaged 67mpg @ 60mph.Lovely little roomy car but ugley as sin from the back. We've had it 2yrs a still park it with its rear against the wall lol.Would defiantly have another Suzuki with the 1.2 dueljet  engine.I know they do a ecoboost as well but personally i like their naturally aspirated dueljet.Cracking engine, smooth, free revving, plenty of poke for what it is, but excellent MPG.Even round town we are averaging 50/54mpg

  17. Wife has a 2016 1lt 124 Fiesta Titanium X from new.Never had an issue, put a proper smile on you face.Always amazed me everytime i drove it.How can a 950cc engine  feel like a 2ltr.

Then it went off to Mountune and that just made it bonkers.

Bet it's an absolute rocket. They took all the best aspects of a British sports car with the MX5, added reliability and better handling and now you've added the last missing ingredient, power!

Even stock its the most fun you can have without losing you licence. This was never going to stay stock as i needed a hobby to replace shooting.

BBR kit was planned for the spring but i had a chance to get the kit and AK dont race over winter so fitted January.

Haven't  had the weather or a safe empty road to push it yet. Going to wait till spring and do a track day at  Croft  rather than use public roads.

It's not so much I'm defending police, more defending speed limits. They have to have a way of enforcing them.

I'm speaking as someone who lost a loved one when she was hit crossing the road by someone doing 37 in a 30. It's small margins, but potentially can have life altering consequences.

I did the speed awareness and its shocking what 5mph difference makes. I was 57 in a 50 and had the attitude of many.My attitude changed after that course.
