  1. My sons school is the opposite! In December Ben caught a nasty rota virus, sickness & a trotty bot. I phoned in every day for the 2 week period except the last 2 days,(last to days he was clear but doctor advised to ensure he is clear for 48 hrs before going back). I even sent a letter in from the GP proving he had been to see his GP. It didn't stop them sending a threatening letter about attendance! Ben has probably only ever had about 3 days off prior to this in the last 5 years. Not once when i phoned in did 'the attendance office' (another created job) ask about Ben's well being, was only applying pressure to get him back into school.. Its all about attendance stat's, she tried to ensure me it wasn't when i phoned to complain about the letter.

  2. Dont waste money in tracking! You need a 4 wheel alignment by someone that knows what they are doing.I had my MX5 done at AK automotive (they race prep MX5 and Ginetta race team cars) and they did 51 adjustments.I had just fitted Tein Coilovers, new rubber and light road alloys.Put 200 miles on as advised by them then took it in for a fast road set up.After 10k there was not one sign of uneven where and the car just felt glued to the road.Best £100 spent, not everyone with the Hunter system knows what to do with it.A proper 4 wheel alignment should be up on the ramps a good hour or more. When a guy comes up to you after putting the car on the ramps & asks ' how do you want it set up? they know what they are doing.

I recently leased a RAV4 hybrid not knowing what my tax bill would be in its 3rd and 4th year, I just had to guess that I'd be better off than getting a diesel.

I can just give a heads up of what's happening in respect to the way cars, particularly Hybrids and Full electric cars will be charged. As a heads up,to get your mileage in on your PTA as soon as you can after 06/04/20.Its not HMRC's responsibility nor is it your employers.Getting your mileage recorded on your PTA will ensure that you don't underpay any tax due.

I have just had an unpleasant chat with a guy today who assumed it was his Employers  resonsiblity to notify us of his change of Vehicles.Six different  mid/high end cars over two tax years and he didnt even check his tax code to see there was no deduction for car benefit. This resulted in a total underpayment of £8323.00.One of the benefits  of taxpayers using their PTA to inform a change of car on the day of change. An employer might leave it 3 or 4mths after the event, thus leaving an employee under paying..Or the worst case scenario a P11d in July of the following tax year their employee had a car.

On a personal note,If I had the benefit of choosing a Company car, I'd be picking the cheapest, lowest C02 available. They can be a cracking benifit depending on vehicle. The tax charge is way way cheaper than purchasing on finance considering most comp cars come free of servicing/road tax/ tyres and insurance to pay for.

Which is a great way of helping people make informed choices when our cars are on 4 year leases

That's why there is a draft table.Changes are happening and government are trying to implement changes as quick as.Actuals will be available from 06/4/20.

    • from 2020/21 there will be new appropriate percentage rates used to calculate a company car benefit in kind
    • the rates increase from 0% to 37% depending on a car’s emission.
    • SORRY THE % CHART IS NOT IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN SO I CANT POST IT.
    • From 2020-21, within the company car tax regime there will be 11 new bands for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs). This includes a new set of appropriate percentage rates and a stand-alone rate band for fully electric vehicles

This will support the uptake of the cleanest cars using the latest technology, whilst assisting with the Government’s commitment to improving air quality in towns and cities.

How customers report the company car is not changing, however from 2020-21 onwards if a hybrid car has a CO2 emissions figure of between 1-50 g/km, they will now be required to provide a cars zero emission mileage.

      • if a hybrid car has a CO2 emission figure of 1-50g/km, you will now need to provide the car’s zero emission mileage. This is the distance in miles that the car can be driven in electric mode without recharging the battery
      • the process of how to report a car has not changed and the PTA(PERSONAL TAX ACCOUNT) will be updated from 6 April 2020 to allow you to enter the new zero emission mileage figure if required
      • you should contact your employer for this information as zero emission mileage is vehicle specific and failure to report the correct figure could lead to incorrect company car benefit in kind being calculated. HMRC do not hold this information
      • your employer should provide you the zero emission figure in miles.

There are a whole load more electric cars on the road following the P11D change - this year a wholly electric company car will cost you £0. That’s quite an incentive.

I have to change my work lease car at the end of March and I nearly went electric but my brother who has had A variety of electric cars for 5+ years and who has this year gone back to petrol, swung me not to do it.

He says the pros are speed and torque and fill up cost, but the pros are outweighed by the whole charging routine and rigmarole, the constant anxiety of running out of juice if you are on a journey of more than 50 miles (which of course is but 25 miles there and 25 miles on the return) and the soulless driving experience. Also, he said to keep your eyes open for what cars you see in the back of breakdown trucks - I’ve been looking and the amount of electric cars is an eye opener given that they amount for probably less than 1% of cars on the road.

I reckon wait 3 years and for the major manufacturers to cycle through 1st / 2nd generation and the country to get better grip of the whole ‘charging away from home’ thing.

Full electric and Hybrids are changing the way they are taxed (P11d).From the brief email I got on Thursday re Hybrids and full electric.I understand that as far as Hybrids are concerned from 06/04/20 you now have to report your mileage that the car does before the Engine kicks in.I didnt read it fully re electric as was in a hurry to leave office.

I will post the temp guidance when I get to work on Monday.Ive got my Surf pro at home so may check it tonight.

I cleared out my shed yesterday (see other post on retirement!) only to find that the mice had been having a field day. The variety of stuff they had chewed was incredible:

    Plastic dustbin containing bird food

    wings on decoy flappers

    camouflage hat and T-shirt

Game bag (very annoyed at this as I had only used it once)

    paper towels

    Dog training vest and dummy’s

plastic paddling pool (used to wash dog)

I think I found the hole they were coming through and have sealed it up but I am sure they will be back.

You said you needed a challenge now retiring lol.

    They will keep ya busy!

This is crying out for someone to set up a trail cam opposite his house that would catch the culprit - one way or another.

That would be Brill, his life would be turned upside down over night.

  8. If you choose to be vegan, then crack on. It should be jail for ANY  Vegan confronting or trying to change the attitudes of those who ain't.

Should of ran them all over and put them in a mince pie.If they where truly committed to their cause they wouldn't of moved.Just another publicity stunt.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the new one. Very few new ones coming into the UK in 2020 then no more as  Suzuki are stopping bringing them in. There is the possibility of a Commercial/van version of the gen4 arriving in 2021 but that's it. Anyone who wants one had better be sharp before the prices go sky high. Dealers telling customers that they are on an order waiting list are fibbing as there isn't one,,just as there is no real possibility of requesting a colour or particular specification. Its a shame,,,and is why Ive swiftly swapped my 06 for a 15.000 mile 17 as its probably the last chance there is to get a good one to see me out.

    https://www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum/6-jimny-chat/65993-no-new-jimmy-s

I will hang on,dealer hasn't mention anything. If so I'm not paying 3 to 4k over list price for a used one.Id opt for a Ignis Allgrip if they changed the shape of the rear over the new Jimny to be honest but I just cant get away with the rear of the car.I love driving my wifes and prefer the dueljet engine over the turbo in my swift.Sue's car was bought new in July and just clocked up 11k with a average consumption 62mpg.If it wasn't for the back of the thing been horrible, I'd trade the swift in tomorrow  for an Iggy.

    Wifes on her second.

They told me that there is a card (like a credit card) with a code on when the car comes and you use that code to order a new one. I have looked but it's not in the glove box and I bought the car second hand.

Are you sure they can find the right key size with my reg? That would be a lot easier.

Both my cards are stuck in the service books.

Did you let him take the foot .then make him take it all down to get your 4 inches back  ? That would have been funny

I'm gonna let it out in 5yrs time lol.So payback, & I dont care who they are as long as they pay the rent. They can keep a horse in the garden if they want and a scrap van on the drive.

  12. I had this issue about 10yrs back when the house next door sold.House's where built in 1935 and we found out that the boundaries have a bit of a tolerance.

The new halfwit neighbour next door argued over 8inches.Fence had been up for 30yrs and gave he gave me chew for about 2 years.m,quite heated at times.I finally got that sick I got a friend (solicitor)to tell him to take a foot as long as he signed a declaration to never bother me again.

If I hadn't had my certs at the time the only foot he'd of got, would of been mine, right in the mouth!

Now I dont shoot, I'd happily give him a slap!

  13. When i hit 50 i reduced my hrs down to 24, then 14 when i hit 52.At 55 i threw the towel in, did loads of fishing ,cycling and bought a project car (MX5). Wife decided to retire last April at 52,spent the Summer flying around every day in the 5.Once she started telling me to slow down and nagging me i went back to my old job. 29hrs per week but will throw to towel in for good 2024.

Her in doors used to leave me a big list of jobs to do before she went to work lol. Split the washing up in plies with a note with diff temps for the washing machine. As soon as her car left he drive id cram them all in on a 30 wash and grab my rod ( fishing rod.

  14. I dont think people have a full understanding about Mental health. I was one of them and feel totally ashamed of myself.Unless you've been there you haven't a scooby do.I had the 'oh it's just another bad back syndrome' for some time off work attitude when colleague's said they were depressed.

Four years ago I found out for myself just how bad mental health can be and the stigma around it.Fortunatly i had a good team around me who got me the help i desperately needed after i hid from it for 2 yrs.I never got to the point where i thought I'd end it all, but god i came very very close. Its unfair to say that it's the Cowards way out.It seems like the only option to waking up to yet another day of mental torture. The constant feeling of anxiety and other emotions are hard to handle all day every day.I also believe that you never really recover and that you will always be in recovery. Its more about managing you life and emotions. Most importantly though it's about coming forward and talking about it.Dont be afraid to talk, my mistake was I bottled it up for almost 2 years. My wife didn't even know, she just thought I didnt love her anymore. When I went into therapy I nearly walked out but stuck with it for the full 12 weeks.I now know  how to manage my mental health and now i can open up to anybody.Im no longer ashamed of my ilness becausec know I can beat it. Yes I have bad days but I can bring myself round

I remember the turning point when I went  back into work (was terrified to face my team). I just found myself opening up (this is where the therapy helped) I told them everything. They were so understanding, I should of opened up sooner.I remember one of the girls just giving me a big hug, its surprising how good a hug makes you feel.

I took medication for 3 years but decided after consulting my GP to come off.I really was not sure if I was genuinely feeling better or I was reliant on the medication for my mood.

If you think you  have a friend or family member that's suffering just ask them if they fancy a chat.Honestly its the best medication out there!

Let's hope that you never have such turmoil in your mind that consider making that same journey. Or that if you do that family and friends support you so that you can pilot yourself safely away from that path.
