  1. Thank you for the advice guys all usefull stuff, gives me some suggestions for the forthcoming AGM. We use the bell drinkers in the pens, I know what you mean with the frost damaging them Sorry browning, we do keep the water topped up through the season, sounds like we just we dont have enough around the place. I'll ensure we also keep the water going thougout the year. Thanks again guys, I'll let you know what's agreed at the AGM!
  2. hi there, I have a Montifeltro and it does exactly the same thing. Whe you unload it it throws the round out of the chamber but doesnt feed another round. If you look at the front of the trigger guard there might be a small chrome button with a red dot on it. Its the mag release button. See attached pic below. Push this and it will release a round into the shell lifter, you can then cycle the bolt, feed and eject the round. Repeat until empty.
  3. I mentioned on one of the other Threads that after the really dry spring and summer we had in Essex there was very little natural water on our shoot. All three release pens have 1000 litre tanks with auto drinkers in them, in addition to we put a number of plastic water drinkers around the pens, these get checked daily when the poults are delivered right through until the season starts. One drive has a stream running through it thats spring fed and there are two other ponds, one at the end of a spinney and the second 1/4 of a mile away from the nearest wood. There was so little run off that all the ditches dried out in the spring and a number of the drives and woods were completely dry. The only water available was that outlined above. We also had a lot of wild food on the farm this year and I suspect this caused a number of the birds to wonder off, far from an isolated case when reading some of the other threads, I'm concerned that the pheasants may also have wondered off looking for water? We've cancelled our last driven day in favour of a walk round as we have so few birds around. Our AGM will be held in February and I'll put the water question to the other Syndicate members. Two of our main woods have an areas that are damp all year round which I believe could be natural springs, I'm going to suggest we club together and hire a mini digger next month to dig down a couple of feet in both of these areas to see of we can create a shallow pond in each wood. They wood be too small to attract any wildfoul, but I hope they would be enough to stop the Pheasants wondering off in search of water, if that's what their doing. Thoughts and Opinions would be greatfully recieved.
  4. Our shoot's been the same. We've been averaging between 60 and 80 head a day, until our shoot on 31st December, then the last two have been in the 20's, there's just not the numbers on the farm and hardly any food is going. In fact we've used 2 tonnes less wheat this year with the amount of wild food about. We've cancelled our last official day on the 28th Jan and the guns are going to have a walk around the hedges instead. I think the combination of wild food and dry weather in the first three months after the birds came in caused them walk off. Our shoot sits in the middle of 1600 acres of rape, when its dry the pheastants seem to walk forever! We're a diy syndicate as well, we try to get out as much as we can dogging the birds back in, very often you dog them back in and an hour later they've gone straight back up the hedge you came down. We also have very little natural water on the shoot, nearly all the streams and all but two of the ponds dried up this year. All three release pens had water in them but I still wonder if they went off in search of water?
  5. Hi There, I sell printing for a company based just outside Chelmsford in Essex, we own a small printing company in Brighton which might be suited to what you need doing. I also work with some local digital printers here in Essex who should be able to give you some good prices on that type of thing. I'll look into it when I'm in the office tomorrow and PM you with some prices, If they're better than you've had so far I'll put you in touch with them.
  6. Plastic through and through for me on anything live. I've tried the same load, Hull Sterling Game 32gm no 5 in both fibre and plastic on rabbits and the plastic hit much harder and kill more cleanly, they seem to hold a better pattern, or just a tigher pattern. When I used the same cartridge in fibre I had many more runners and a lot more follow up shots to finish them off. When I'm clay shooting I use fibre, I dont find any difference in platic or firbre on clays, they still break them. But when I'm shooting game I awlays use plastic. I could probabily get the same affect as using plastic by using tigher chokes with fibre on game, I dont like to change things much and will stick to platics until I have to change.
  7. Do you think it could be anything to do with Hydrostatic shock? Remote wounding affects. See the link below? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrostatic_shock
  8. Hello All, To cut a long story short I got reenstated last Monday, my role has changed slightly where I'm now doing more new business sales. My T's & C's havent changed and my employment has remained continous. The campaigning and information I presented during my consulation worked and they reestated me with the changes I asked for. Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth but at least I'm not out of work and it buys me time. Thanks for your advise and help on this. cheers
  9. An update chaps, Had my meeting this morning, my current job is still 'at risk' however following the alternative proposal I made to them on Monday, a vacancy for the new business person now exists. I've asked to be considered for the role and I'm now waiting on a job description from my employer. I had an off the record coversation with my staff represative who said there's been a groundswell of support for my cause between many of the senior management, the've reviewed everything else I do and the business I've bought in over the last 2 years, the result being a vacancy on the new business team. If the job description looks good I'll have an interview and see where is goes from there. At least there's a light at the end of the tunnel for the moment, they're looking to conclude it all by the end of April. It's one of the worst things I've ever experienced, if I am successful I dont know how I'll feel about working there after this, but I'll give it a go and if I dont like it at least I've bought myself some time. I'll update you next week. Thanks again for the replys guys, you've been a great help. PS Mushroom, I'll PM you. cheers SN
  10. Hi Guys, Thanks for the replys. Vince, I'm in Braintree, Essex. Thunderbird, I was given a letter explaining the reasons and the next step witch was a further meeting yesterday to discuss the resons in more detail and to look at potential alternatives to redundancy. Poontang, I'm using my line manager as my witness throughout, I've worked for him for 12 years and he has little influence on the process. But he know exactly what I bring to the place and is better equiped than anyone to help in that. Coolhead, some intesting points made, thank you. Norrie, thank you I'll contact them. To answer some of your other questions, I'm under consulation at the moment for potential redundancy, is not related to skills or performance. There's no selection process as I work for the parent company and I'm the only one in my position. The company I work for has bought our largest competitor and they are restructuring the sales and customer serice teams. I work in account management and two of my largest customers have requested a change in personnel, i.e me, as a result. One of them worked with the aquired company for 14 years, whereas I've worked with them for 7 months and their keen to rekindle that relationship. The other customer is very difficult to deal with and they believe I'm too close to their staff, as a result their senior management would like a less pally relationship. As a result it leaves me with a much smaller workload than I had before, hence the potential redundancy. I had my seocnd meeting yesterday where we talked through the reasons in more detail. They stressed it wasnt related to performance or a specific complaint, none had been recieved, purely relating to workload. I pleaded my case, length of service, commitment to the business through previous restructing and wage reduction. Part of my job is new business sales, which the business has a large requirement for, I've proposed that I increase my focus on new business to fill the time I now have free after losing my other resposibilities. They're now considering that and have asked to see me again this Thursday for a further discussion. They'll either accept my proposal or confirm to me that I'm going, at that point I'll get the solicitors involved in the compromise agreement. I've made some call to some competitors and made them aware that I'm interested in moving, companies are always looking for sales people. I'm going to go the careers advise centre today and speak to them about alternatives. On the upside the weather's been lovely so I've given the house a good sping clean and done the stuff in the garden I've been putting off, the kitchen's getting a good going over today! Aside from shooting my other hobbie is cycling so I've been getting out on the road for 2 or three hours a day. I've also been able to potter about on the shoot and do a couple of things that havent been cruital but made me feel better getting them done. Lastly thank you for your advice, it not an easy time at the moment, especially today as my wife works on Monday and Tuesday and my little girl goes to her grandma and granddads for the two days. The uncertainly and feeling of failure is diffcult to accept, but I know it's happening for a reason and the quicker it's resolved either way the quicker I can move on. I'll keep you posted on developments after Thursdays meeting. Thanks Shalfordninja
  11. I had a week off work last week, but I got a call on Tuesday evening from my boss asking me to come in the following morning for a meeting with him and the HR Lady. He could'nt tell me what is was about on the phone and insisted I come in to the office in the morning, which I did. I get a short speech about a restructuring and how through a set of circumstances my job is now potentially redundant, i'm now under consulation and on gardening leave. I understand the reasoning and have the follow up meeting with them tomorrow to discuss the options. I've had some off the record conversations with my colleagues and it doesnt look good for me, we'll see what tomorrow brings. I've been in this particular industry (Printing) for 15 years and in my present job for 12, I'm on a 6 month contract and if I do get made redundant I recon I'd get about 9 months money in total. The industrys going through a tough time, which one is'nt, with more and more paper based products going online, the Ipad, the volume of print is reducing year on year, there will be less and less demand for my current skillset. My priority is to try and keep a job with my current company, if I do go I'm considering leaving the industry completely, using the redundancy to re-train in a trade, plumber, sparky, chippy etc or something else. Have any of you had similar experences and chosen to change your work completely? My heads all over the place at the moment and I dont know what I'll do if I get laid off, I guess I'm looking for inspiration. This isnt my first post, work have turned off my email address which my PW account ran through and I couldn't remeber my password. thanks
