  1. Thanks for that post SX3, i'm in kidderminster too. I posted mine 6 weeks ago, so i'm about half way there then....... Was your land cleared? i am looking to shoot over my own land and to my knowledge it isn't cleared (although it is ex farm land, so maybe it has been included in a previous request, who knows...)
  2. Wow, this is the first i've seen of these since they were done (obviously) they look absolutely spot on I can't thank you enough for making a ****** of a situation infinitely better All hail UK Gun Repairs I will report back again when i have them back in my eager little mitts. You never know, without a dented barrel, i may start shooting a little straighter LOL Greg
  3. nothing to add to the thread, but dang, that's a lot of shooting you do, your guns must melt...
  4. i understand the sentiment about just jumping in and having a go, but surely there is a point you need to be at when you are shooting a 'normal' club type shoot at which you won't embarrass yourself at a comp. i am a novice shooter (8 weeks) but improving fairly rapidly due to me shooting a slab a week at the mo in order to 'get up to speed' with the local scene. i scored a 73% at Hereford and Worcester last weekend, but normally i am about 60% at apparently tricky layouts local to me. I suppose i am summising as to whether it is a different world at a comp or just the same old people with the same old range of abilities. i would like to compete, and i don't necessarily mind coming last, but i don't want there to be fresh air between me and last but one, if you know what i mean...
  5. I got 73% today. Easily my pb and I am still tickled pink now, several hours later. I have been shooting 8 weeks. It's official, I love shooting
  6. i'm with the anti-littering brigade. when there is clearly a bin provided and it is half full of empty cartridges, it takes some sort of knobber to drop his carts all over the floor and walk off. personally, into hand and into the bin, i will even tidy a stand up if there are a few errant carts about. it's no better than dropping an empty fag packet/crisp bag out of the car window.
  7. I don't know about that, the hoof marks will make a right mess of your upholstery. Or aren't we talking about that any more???
  8. Crumbs, i wasn't expecting that, what a fabulously generous offer. I will take you up on it on the strength of the quality of your work alone, i look forward to seeing the barrels in all their glory. One point i would like to make is that i am not very good at accepting the generosity of others. It is not something that i often receive, i much prefer to help rather than be helped, so with the utmost humility, i don't think that i could allow you to do it for nothing, that doesn't seem fair to me. A reduced rate would still be more than one could possibly expect, or if you insist a donation to a charity of your choosing. get in touch via PM and we can make arrangements Yours humbly Greg
  9. i know it is nowhere near the standard of some, but i am new to shooting (about a month) and yesterday i did skeet for the first time and got 15 and 18, on the 18 i missed 2 absolute sitters as well that even i know i should have got, so 20+ isn't out of the question. i was beaming when i finished that second set. As you were!!! Greg i also got 29/50 on a sporting layout which is an improvement to my average as well. not that the missus was interested when i got home, the miserable harpie...
  10. i'm new to the furore about the shooting, but wholeheartedly agree with everything said above. As already mentioned, the equestrian events are going to be an absolute joke, they are creating a whole new 3 day eventing course in some bloody park or another in london at great expense when the uk is the undisputed epicentre of horse trials in the world, with literally dozens of suitable venues within an hour or 2 of greenwich park. to add to that, it is going to cost practically every competitor £200 to get their lorry into the capital because of the new eco tax they have in london for lorries. Where is the spectacle in watching horses gallop over portable fences in a park when they could do it in some of the fantastic country homes that are existing venues, which would reflect better on the UK to a worldwide audience!!! We feel your pain, Bonkers
  11. it sounds like there isn't enough kick in the carts to reset the trigger for the second barrel. I suppose he could manually change the barrels over with the selector which would engage the second barrel, but i would suggest that you go up a size to 24g, i use those on my lanber and all is fine HTH Greg edit: get him a lesson and make sure he is holding the gun right, if he is turned into the gun too much, he will hurt his shoulder, it may well be that he just needs to alter his stance
  12. thanks for all the messages of support, i will just get the barrels re-blacked and not worry about those members of this forum with undiagnosed personality disorders that said, the internet is precious for bringing out your blunt side because people get terribly brave in front of their pc screen. I'm absolutely certain that highlander is a lovely bloke in reality and if i had sought his opinion in person would not have got my ear chewed off. once again, thanks for making me feel welcome. Greg
  13. Lovely, I didn't realise that me superficially tainting my barrels would upset you so much. I am fairly sure that the driving test has no element of car maintenance attached to it, and it is purely a maintenance mistake that i am seeking to rectify. i'm not sure that this thread was the correct outlet for your opinions on regulatory change in the uk gun industry
  14. i've got decent bore cleaner, a proper cleaning kit and a bore snake for quick cleans out in the field, i was just being stupidly picky and wanting my barrels 100% perfect and it has bitten me in the backside, i am so angry with myself. C'est la vie does anyone know of a good reblacking place in the west mids/birmingham/black country?
  15. Hi All, I'm new to this forum and shooting in general. i started about a month ago when my license arrived and purchased a near mint Lanber pro sporter gold 30" O+U from the father of a friend. I am obviously on a steep learning curve so have been taking advise from anyone and everyone on all matters of gun etiquette, shooting technique (several lessons in already) and gun maintenance. I am only really interested in clays at this stage. Anyway, it was following the last piece of advise given to me about how to go about removing some insignificant lead deposits at the end of the breech that i was told to use jenolite to get rid of it, The long and the short of it is that i obviously wasn't careful enough with the jenolite and bits must have got on the ends of the barrels and one blob about 6" down the barrel on the underside and it has stripped all the black off the barrels where it has touched, i had no idea it was so savage... this is obviously unsightly and i fear that it will rust quickly unless i get it recoated, i have cleaned the effected areas off thoroughly and put a fair bit of oil on it to inhibit any rust formation, but what is the 'proper' solution? i am in the west midlands, so if anyone can recommend anywhere local, that would be great Thanks Greg
