  4. I have a Gun Safe for Sale that may be of use. It is set up for a single broken gun with a fully fitted inside. However if the poly lining was taken out two will fit. It was made by Hampson of Worcester and is 33 1/2 " LONG - 11" WIDE and 4" DEEP. It has a single lock with two keys. The fittings will allow a 31" Barrell but with some fitting maybe 32". It ha been fitted to a wall but will make an excellent safe to be bolted into a truck or boot of a car for security.I purchased it as a safe for ammunition and intended to take the lining out but never bothered. Situated on the Herefordshire / Worcestershire borders 20 mins from M5 and M50. It may be possible to meet up to J10 of the M6. Cost £45 Regards Rob.

  6. Is that a bit steep on the old price front..........paid 450 for my boy out of solid lines.. Lovely colour though the livers...............thats what my lad is..... Hi, Not steep when the rest of the litter were pre booked and sold for £800 at 8 weeks. Where else have you seen a FTCH x FTCH pup for sale?? Good luck.
  7. Advertised in the private sale section I have a solid Liver (tiny white patch on chest) dog pup for sale. Born February this year. Both parents are FIELD TRIAL CHAMPIONS. Sire FTCH Gusty Silvan (bred by myself) and FTCH Maesydderwen Smarty. I retained two pups and have decided to keep the sister from the litter. He will make an excellent shooting companion but in my opinion will not trial. This is due to his speed and he lacks the punch i was looking for. Apart from social training he is untouched. £600. I live on the Worcestershire / Herefordshire Borders.

  9. I have two Cocker dog pups available for reservation, from my Field Trial Champion ‘Smarty’ who was third in the 2003 Cocker Championship. She was mated to Field Trial champion Maesydderwen Sorcerer who was second in the championship in 2004. One pup is black with a white blaze and the other liver with a white blaze. They were born on Friday so they will be looking to go to new homes at the beginning of May. They are docked and due clawed and have six weeks insurance. They will be registered with the Kennel Club with the affix Maedrow. They are £600 each – expensive, but you get what you pay for and will soon be recovered in stud fees. Pedigree attached. Regards Rob. Pedigree_SMARTY__S_LITTER_2006.doc
  10. Hi, I actually do not agree with deliberate breeding of sprockers but do understand that accidents will happen. Some shooting colleagues are having them because it is trendy at the moment (always dangerous) or they want the best of both worlds. I know a beater on a shoot I frequent, who made the choice because he wanted a small dog with springer qualities. What he got after growth was the largest brute you ever set eyes on. He would have been better choosing the pup from smaller dame and sire. However some folks are breeding the pups because of the trend. But they are using bitches that are over the registration age for registering pups or they have had too many litters. They can get more money for a Sprocker than an unregistered Cocker or Springer. Please take care and check age etc to stop the unscrupulous. Yours in our great sport. Rob.

  16. Hi all, I have had similar problems with Cocker Bitches in the past. However, the dogs were younger and i was not using them in the field as i had other dogs available for shooting at the time. So i understand your dilema. One important piece of advice, is that not to put the dog in a position to be 'naughty' and solve the problem out of the pressure situation of perhaps near to the end of a drive. You are expecting the dog to do it so he is obliging. As far as the retreiving goes the problem i had, was the little bitches were of the 'I love you Daddy' type and did not want to take their eyes off me. Every retreive was a blind. Use sound to help. I cut up 5 large commercial 25 ltre cooking oil containers and placed them around the training area. Throw the dummy against the tin sheets making them look at the area of the fall. A helper can do this, or at first use close retrieves. You soon get good at hiting the target and if you miss the first time send another one and get the other later. You did not say if you were using a starter pistol ? This puts the sound dimension in the training and if you put a 22 adapter in a shotgun and then have the gun pointing at the fall the dog will learn to look at the fall area. If in trial it is great if one of your guns misses all the time with the first barrell and is a crack shot with the second the dog will learn to look at the sound and then the direction. If the dog is overshooting, try for a while to only give retreives into the wind so the dog will combine sight and scent. Then go across the wind by throwing the dummy into the hedge upwind off an obvious path and send him down the path. If the dog is pulling you on your beat work, him for a while only into the wind and keep control. Then go at 45 degrees to the wind and stop him pulling. I find a sugar beet field the best for this. You need to see the dog and keep him honest. Yours in our great sport Rob

  19. Hi, The big problem you will have, is not finding advice but to sift the advice for what is best for you and your puppy. I suggest you read as many books and watch as many videos as you can and then combine bits from each source to fit in with your style. The best way I suggest to start is to look at one of Paul French Spaniel Championship Videos. This helped me when I started to find out what dogs are capable of and how the handler combines with his /her dog in a shooting situation, which should reflect what happens in the field. I must add, that many do not agree that trials reflect the field but as in my previous statement it is up to you to sift the advice. When I first started I thought some dogs in the beating line of shoots I went on, were brilliant, possibly because the owner and his mates said so. As time went on, keepers on other shoots I went on would have asked the beater to leave the same dog at home.! !!!! I think starting a pup at 8 to 9 weeks is too early but of course you will want the youngster house trained if not kennelled. As long as my youngsters walk on a lead and come to me when called I do not start with them before 8 months and then may postpone this to 9 months if they are not mature enough. Give them their puppy life. What concerns me is that the puppy came to you at six and half weeks. This is much too early and I feel that the breeder should not have let you have the puppy that early. I look to pass on a puppy to a new home as close to 8 weeks as possible, usually in the morning of a weekend convenient to both parties. One bit of information I picked up, from where I cannot remember, is that that great organisation Guide Dogs For The Blind, takes all their pups from the Dam’s influence at 7 weeks and three days. For every day after that it tends to increase their training by a week. Wow too much information. Yours in our great sport RAR
