Carp angling, Gun dogs (labs), Breaking Clays (getting better!), beating and hopefully pigeon shooting when I can get permission from some kind land owner.
  1. I'm from Newbiggin Hall Estate but tend to tell people I live Westerhope coz it sounds posh
  2. I guess like everyone else who uses these forums I am looking to increase the amount of shooting I have access to. I’m based in Newcastle but am willing to drive (and give lifts) to Northumberland and Durham. I am honest, safe and very keen. So if anyone knows of any land which may be available or anyone needs a hand with their permission please let me know. Cheers Paddy
  3. I had a similar experience with Deep Blue, I was after changing my brand of shotgun cartridges. I was given an A4 ring binder which contained very detailed descriptions (along with photographs) of a huge range of cartridges. I was very impressed until the “assistant†and I had to begin the job of working out which they actually had in the shop. When I pointed out that they may want to think about removing the pages of the cartridges they didn’t in stock or at the very leased make a note of the shortage in the catalogue all I received for my trouble was a blank look. When I did finally make a decision on the now limited selection I was told oh actually I don’t think we have any of those either!!! It was only when I started to raise my voice little that one of the other assistants point out that in fact they had a couple of thousand in the back at which point I gave up and went else where
  4. Newbiggin Hall Estate, Newcastle God's own country........ Now waits for the torrent of abuse about being a townie off all the woollybacks.
  5. The first time I went it took me three days to recover, and I had a bruise that resembled a slice of corn beef for about a month! And this was even with my considerable amount of padding (some would say blubber but not to my face ). I never thought I would get used to it but once I had a few lessons with an instructor and learnt some good habits I was right as rain. In fact I hardly even notice recoil now.
  6. Many thanks for all the replies I've sourced a run so I now need the living quaters and I now have a good list of contacts. Cheers again Paddykoi
  7. Can anyone recommend a good kennel manufacturer?
  8. Like lots of the people on PW I am in search of some land to shoot over. I've had the cards done, been on the knock and never pass a tractor without wondering if I should follow it, but I have noticed in a few recent conversations and a few of the posts on here how many people have permission for land they never visit. Only this week I was talking to a guy who was telling me of the five farms he has permission on, when I asked him how he was getting on with them he said he hadn’t been out this year! Being the cheeky ****** I am, I asked if he fancied letting me have a crack at them at which point he became a little offended and accused me of trying to muscle in on his territory. So I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?
  9. I am looking for a little pal for my 14 month old Lab boy and I was playing with the idea of buying a Border terrier. Before I do though it occurred to me that some one on here might be looking to re-home a terrier and the thought of re-homing a dog seems more appealing. Whilst I have said above that I would like a Border, I would consider any kind of terrier really as long as they are: A boy or a spayed bitch Good with children Good with other dogs House-trained Age isn’t really a concern and if any thing I would prefer an older dog to a pup. I’m based in the Newcastle area and I’m more than happy to travel for the right dog. If no one can help does anyone know of a terrier rescue group in the North East? Cheers Paddy
  10. I realise that this is unbelievably cheeky, as I’m jumping on Rayo’s post but could I get some information as well please Mark? (Sorry for jumping in Rayo but I’m having the same issues getting started )
  11. OMG! Newbiggin Hall Oh well someone has to live there now, now we won't have any of that!! I've been up to Steve Smiths a bit since getting my cert and gun and I'm planning to come up on Sunday at some point as I have a beaters day coming up and a few of the lads want to get their eye's in. What I am finding is that most of places I’ve tried already have someone taking care of their pest control and whilst I have a few options left (one in particular I think will be very interesting if it comes off) I’m starting to get a little disheartened. If you ever need any company on your land please don't hesitate to let me know (a little cheeky I know but you cant blame me for trying!)
  12. Thanks for that mate I'll PM you my number etc as you say getting the first one seems to be a bit of a nightmare. I have been invited out by one of the lads I beat for to have a crack at the crows on his land tommorow and I can't wait!
  13. Thanks for the speedy reply chaps I have updated me profile but I'm not too sure what kind of information people might want. I live the in the Newbiggin Hall Estate area of Newcastle.
  14. I think this post may be a little different from the others on this part of the forum as I’m not looking for land to shoot on (well I am, but first) what I would really like is to go along with someone when they go pigeon shooting. Whilst I do have a certificate and shotgun I’m not expecting to shoot myself , and I guess what I’m really looking for is someone to take me under their wing (sorry about the pun) and help me get started by watching how they go about setting up etc. I have some experience of shooting, having beaten for a local shoot this year and really want to learn more about pigeon. I have a car and would be more than happy to pick people up and drive them to the shoot, whilst it may not be a 4x4 there is loads of room for gear etc. I’m based in the Newcastle area and would be happy to travel to Northumberland, Durham or anywhere within say about 40 miles of the “Toonâ€. Whilst I work full time Monday to Friday I can get days off through the week, if I have a bit of notice. I realise this request may seem a little cheeky and the thought of spending a day in a hide with a complete stranger may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I have been told I’m a good laugh and am really keen to learn. If you think you can help me please PM me and we can perhaps set up a meet. Cheers Paddy
