im a newbe to 20b , i have been shooting 12 for about 37 years but 20s are new to me, so i have to sort out the make and type of shell im gioing to use, and seeing my local gun shops wont have there new ammo stocks in untill about mid march , im running my mind over about what sort of shell i will buy , as the 1 1/4oz load kick quit hard, and i get a fair bit of barrle flip with it, i can say that it would most likely be a shell for the 2nd or 3rd shot , what grams and type of shell should i,be looking at for mallards and walk up wild jumpy phesant, i think the 3s may do for close geese, and even with a 12 my goose shooting has for the most allways been in close . also 3s are a good shot size for nz paradise shell ducks which is what i use on the parries out of a 12g as they are bigger than mallards and are a tough bird, i used to shoot 3, 1/2 inch 66gr 2 clevers now thats an elepant load that really does kick, but not really when u are conentrating on a bird, most of the time u only notice a guns kick when u are shooting clays or trees, whats the difrence between say a 20b shooting 1 1/4oz and a russan single shot shooting 1,1/4oz i thnk the russan mit even be liter than a 20g auto, raptor is 6lb the m2 20g benelli is some thing like 5.5 lb now thats a gun that will kick im a gas man hate benellis they allways kick me short stock or some thing

thanks for the replys, who are rc , we here in new zealand are alowed to use lead in all our hunting with a 20 b, so it may be my worth trying to track down 20g 2s and give the geese a go i dont shoot a lot off geese but i know they dont like 2s but it looks as if i mit have to hang on to my mp 153 for big bird may be some will come up with a lead goose load just for us kiwis im not knocking any but to me , 1 1/4 oz = 1 1/4oz 1 1/4 oz in a 12 = 1 1/4 oz in a 20, its not the shot shell size, its the weight of pallets in the shot size, that is the same, regardless of bore size, 1 1/4oz = 1 1/4oz, so a 20 bore in 1 1/4oz is the same load as a 12 bore 1 1/4oz , = same amount off pallets in each cartrige, in the same shot sizings so a 20ga 1,1/4oz doing 1350 will reach out with the same number of pallets at the same speed at the same range, as a 12 bore 1,1/4 oz doing 1350fps in the same shot sizing

does any one make such a load in 20ga 2s i kown that baschieri & pellagri make a super magnum 2 3/4 1, 1/4oz duck load up to 3s but i am after some thing in 20 ga , 2s that will truly drop canadas and are b&ps 3s english shot size or amercan , and which is the bigger

thats ok, i have my secret little spots local knolage and all , our gun laws etc are just anout as tough as yours , accses is just about as hard , but i must say since or fish and game opened up our game bird laws to alower private bird rearing like u in the uk do for shooting driven birds etc, there seem to be more english, scots, and amercans shooting over this way, let alowen married couples in their mid late 20s and early 30s seem to be settling here , mind you the pound makes 3 nz dollar,s but or guns work out about the same price as in the uk , shooting in new zealand has allways been a sport that anyone could do and in the 30s, 50s even the 60s u werent a kiwi unless u shot opening morning on the ducks, we still have one off the biggest per population of shooters and gun owners in the word , i heard some where thats theres about a 1,000,000 shot guns and hunting rifles in nz, and about 60 or 70 thousand people still shoot opening weekend, out of a population off 4,000,000. opning for all game birds is allways the first saturday in may, so any one want to set up a driven bird shoot in nz im your man phesant, caluforuna quail .. ( only phesant ,bob white quail, and redlegs, in the game farms which there are only about 10 or 15 at the moment) mallard duck canada geese australian balck swan and a few others no wild patrige but the cal quail make up for them and new zealand paradise shell ducks a good hunting bird no grouse in nz

teai think it may be about 3 years or so , alls well over this side theonly thing iwill say is theres more and more off u lot comeing over here my town seems to be full of the old accsent at the moment,they must have heard we can still use lead in 20ga

all u can tell me about this gun would be most helpfull ,as i have never owned a franchi before , but do now so if u could please it came with chokes, full, mod 1/2, and, ic 1/4, which would be the way to go with lead on ducks and walk up phesants. as we in new zealand as alowed at the moment to use lead in sub 12gauge guns no steel for 20ga in nz

i have never heard of a bellows goose call. ducks yes, all the call makers are on the net so look it up, u may be able to buy a tape on how to use them which is the best way to go when learning to call me i got sweet su/ff all but come closer to my season im spending money money and maybe a little more new gun decoys waders and other goodys have a good and a happy season from bill who won his local fihing contest last week with a 369.5 bronse walier shark, boy, am i getting good at catching thoughs things

merry christmass every one its hot here and im going yellowfin tuna fishing on the 27 28 29 in a fishing contest run by the local pub [prizes for all sorts of saltwater fish], i did it last year and did ok .

shoot,n hegdes like u guys do i would go realtree if u shooting drie grassers or corn wetlands works well have wetlands and it works in most situations army woodlands is a good all rounder but remmber that when buying new camo to dunk it in a bucket of cold tea it takes the shean of it and helps it blend in with out rubing it in mud ,read washing insuctions first cortex is good stuff

deako u shoot a 20 im hitting the other sided of long 40s and am think of a lighter gun. whats your opinon on 20s for duck and maybe head shooting geese with one using bismith or hevi shot.im still looking at the xtrema and then theirs the other one, wait for beretta to come out with the 3 inch urika in overbore

they are starting to phase it in . the area i shoot i have to use it on waterfowl in may 2004 but the fishand game areas that are set aside four duck hunting and nature reseves, the ones u are alowed to shoot in .they have to use it in 2003 we will still be able to use lead for upland and i think its the whole country by 2005 that will be maybe all waterfowl.so we are new to steel and like u a lot of shooters dont now much about steel. on opening weekend first saturday in may about 50.000 duck hunters hit the swamps lakes and rivers most shooters hunt duck in nz we have a lot of wild pheasent and quail in my area in the north island but we do not have the type of shooting driven birds that u have in most of nz it is ilegal to drive game. in the last 2 years they did a law change and now there are a few (not meany 5-6) game farms where u can hunt razed and releast birds like u have. most of new zealands upland game hunting is rough shooting with or with out dogs the lab is probly the most comon hunting dog we do not payfor or hunting except for a hunting licence which costs about 30 pounds for all gamebirds for all the season or bird hunting is about the same as the amercans where befour they opened up there laws on leasing hunting right thank god its still ilegal in new zealand to gharge people to hunt birds and to lease hunting rights osr sell game birds it is all so ilegal to guide bird hunts here but no ones been prosercuted and people do it i hope leaseing never happens here or we may end up the same as amerca where it all went crazy and the only place a lot of people can find to hunt is public lands and hunting rights skyrocketed out of the commen mans pocket in some placers . we have funn bill :( :thumbs: any more and a good look at nz hunt the governing body is www.fishandgame.org.nz i also like this amercan site www.waterfowler.com

as im looking buying at this gunn i mit as well ramble on about it and tell some one what i think ok 3 1/2 inch makes for a long gun so where u once and do use a 28 inch the word is with the 3 1/2 go down too a 26 inch which makes a long gun not so long now 3 1/2 over 3 inch as sporting gun said if you find your self on the other side of a sea wall with geese comeing at you that 1/2 inch could be what u need and i and all off us that hunt geese have seen lead shot bounce of geese let alown steel expecally canadas and and to have the back up off the 1/2 inch could be handy any one else want to help make my mind up about this subject i think evern with the gunn weighting in at just under 8 pounds its the way to go for me as i mainly do wildfowling flight parth shooting as well as decoying calling ect over salt water so i realy like the sinthetic stock i would probaly get the plain black and grey and i will still keep my u/o for upland

thanks guys. i will injoy chating with u we have rock pigions here but not in my area one day i mit try to find some. i shoot mainly ducks .the ducks and upland game here are amercan mallards new zealand spoon bill new zealand native paradise shell duck black duck . canada geese ring and black pheasent califournain quail auatralian black swan and a few other birds native and inports. my season starts on the first saterday in may the duck season goes for 8 weeks and geese and upland game go for 16 till around the end of august in some placers in the south island the goose season can runn four about 9 mouths too mean geese down there .i live in the north island and what compertion i will have to have a look. the word that i have from the amercans is the beretta is going to bring out the 391 urika with the same bore as the xtrema but in 3 inch that is over bored with the optmin chocks they say the xtrema is the best paterning steel shot shotgun they have ever got there hands on
