Last year I got 3 flappers off Ebay but can not remember who from. Cost £50 each. 1st lasted 4 months 2nd 2 days 3rd 4 hours I have inspected them and the gears have stripped and also the motor brushes burn out. I have worked out the motors need to be carbon brushes not brushless. As for the gears I don't know what the answer is there. The motors are 12v DC 300rpm gear motor 25mm. Heaps of them on eBay from £4 to £12. Trying to work out which ones have carbon brushes is the hard one. I to when for the cheaper option to know if I was to buy any more I would get them from well known online company which sell the flappers for £80 with 3 year warranty. With the problem being the motors 3 year warranty you cant go wrong.

Can any one tell me if there is any difference in old or new lead? What's the best? Lead flashing Battery lead Old Tire weights Old fishing weights There is additives in lead so which is best. Seem to get different shot shape from different lead supply's. Still cant get that perfect round shot. Same every thing but lead may be from some where else. One lot good the next is rubbish Any idea's on this one? Thanks

How high are you letting the drip fall on to the plate and how many times do you let it bounce. What high from the edge to the cooling liquid do you use.

Hi Making a home made shot dropper and need to ask if any one could help me with what size hole I need to drill in to the 10mm bolts I'm using for the droppers. I'm after any where between shot size 6 - 7.5 Reloading for pigeon shooting. Thanks.

20 yards a 10/22 should be ok for a bit of fun speed shooting. 30 yards plus I would expect a few misses on the rifles part not your ability. That's all mate

Hi Rst1990 Yep, every type of ammo I have tried in the 10/22 and never come up with any good grouping with them. I did wonder if the two rifles in Australia may of had problems, but I'm my own gun smith and fix and make most parts I've ever needed for my firearms and mates come to me to fix there firearms too. I've checked, cleaned and retested them time after time and still no good. Then coming over to England and had a shot with my mates and his 10/22 tactical model still resulting in the same poor grouping plus using 3 different ammos. The grouping with all 3 rifles where the same. Not one was better or worse. I agree that the 10/22 is one of the most popular firearms there is but I also believe that the Americans love to make big but always lack quality some where. The 10/22 has the most accessories than any other firearm on the market. And in this case accuracy has come last. For me in any firearm accuracy means safety. I like to know where I point it is where its going. Shooting at a rabbit at 40-50 yards with a .22LR should not result in misses due to the rifle. If its the shooter that's missing at that range then they should stay at a range and practice until they can. Using a 10/22 will not help your confidence or score when at 30 yards you cant get a 1/4inch group. Once again I don't want to sound like a smartass but I must say I am lucky living and working on a 50,000acar farm plus the two farms next door which gives me 160,000acars of land to shoot which allows me to shoot long range and shoot it often. I use, .22LR CZ Brno on bunnies and foxes out to 70m .222 Sako out to 250m on foxes and cats (head shots out to 150m). 30 30 Win on pigs out to 150m though bush land. And my newest addition to my over crowded gun safe is my .308 Sako which I use on pigs, foxes and other vermin out to 600m. I also shoot it out to 800m paper targets, which I'm still trying to master!!! So what I'm getting at is I shoot to be accurate to the best I can from 30m to 800m and using a firearm that's not accurate I don't go there. I like to say if I miss its me not the gun. The Standard...... Ruger 10/22 is a grate little rifle for shooting tin cans and bottles of water but I have more fun using my .22LR Winchester leaver action with 17 shots over the 10/22. (plus it shoots a 1/2inch group at 50m with open sights) I love my little Winchester

I use a CZ in Australia for bunnies, cats and possum's. Head shots only and the gun never misses. Only I miss!!! Good and trusty firearms. Cant go wrong

Hi Mossyoak77 Can I ask what .22LR are you trading in? I'm guess you are trading it in for a Ruger 10/22. Have you ever used a 10/22? All I can say is I will never buy and give a good review for the 10/22 Ruger. I have used and shot 3 different 10/22 rifles on many occasions and they have all proven to be useless for any kind of shooting being rabbits or tin cans past 20 yards. Being from Australia I'm off a 50,000 acre farm running 6000 merino sheep and crop 12,000 acres. I spend a lot of time rifle shooting to the point of having a shot everyday one way or another. I shoot a number of different rifles and calibres from a .22LR Brno, .17 Hornet, .222 Sako, .223 Remington, 30 30 Winchester, .308 Sako 85 and many others. The two 10/22 rifles we have on the farm belong to my boss and are used for culling sick and injured ewes and lambs. Out of all the rifles I have shot the 10/22 has been the worse grouping rifle I have ever shot. Just recently a mate of mine asked me to zero in his 10/22 Tactical synthetic stock rifle. He has had the rifle under 12 months from new and said he cant get a good grouping with it and asked me to check it out. All I said is "you never will get a good grouping with it" In saying that I said I'll give it ago. Setting up a paper at 30 yards I started to check it out. After a few shots the best I could get was a group of 10 shots in 1.5 inch grouping pattern. Some groups where out to 2inch. With out being a smartass to me that is useless and a waste of time at that range. My HW77 air rifle shoots better! All 3 10/22 rifles I have shot have shoot that bad. I refuse to use the two we have on the farm for culling sheep because of bad placement of shots caused by the rifle. I use my own .22LR Winchester leaver action with open sights to do the job and its 1 shot 1 kill every time. As for my rabbiting rifle I use my trusty old .22LR CZ Brno 10 shot mag that gives me a half inch group some times better at 60 yards. Its used and abused and lives in the farm ute being driven around bouncing and banging around on the gun rake.... and I'll be honest it don't get cleaned as much as it should but still shot after shot stays true at 60 yards. I use a spot light on the roof but also have a Lightforce PRED9X detachable spot light when walking around the scrub where the ute cant get to. Yes I can understand why people like the 10/22's because of it being a semi auto and shooting off round after round with out having to action a bolt but to me its because people want to use a semi auto like they see in the movies. That's just how I see it..... To me I believe a well placed shot is more important and safer than having a rifle that is just fun to shoot because of being a auto. If people want to shoot a tin cans on a log then yes grate fun but when it comes to a well placed head shot (shot after shot) then they are not for me. As for your .17 HMR they are a grate accrete rifle to use. I would say at a guess you get grate grouping with it. Well you wont with a 10/22 Ruger! Lets see what abuse I get for saying all that!!!

Oh yes, I do reload my own shotie shells so playing with finding the right combo of shot and powder weights is not a problem. I was more after finding out how well they work. The silencer that is. So thanks to you Cookoff013 for your post. It's gives me a bit of a heads up on where to start with shot size.

Thanks everyone. Still making up my mind if its worth getting one of these silencer's. I'm missing my rifles that are back in oz. Normally the trusty old .22lr Brno is used on bunny bashing and .222 Sako for 100m plus shots on them. Also only visiting the UK (18months here) but saying that I can leave it to the old boy to play with when I head home. I'm thinking its one of those things you get and only use it for a few weeks and forget it. But saying that it could be a good thing to stop any complaint's on shots going off at night. There's always someone out there that has to complain just to feel happy that they have stopped someone enjoying them selves. Anyway thanks for the reply's.

G'day one and all, Any one out there have or used one of these Hushpower 12g shotguns? How well do they work? What brand cartridges did you use? How loud are they? Looking at getting the 10" Detachable moderator/silencer to put on a trusty old single barrel shotgun I have. They are £160 so would like to find out about them before spending the cash. I'm wanting to use it for spotlighting rabbits and crows. Any feed back would be grate. Thanks

I started off getting my self one and with the land I shoot I have to do a lot of long walking to get to the best shooting spots. I have been lugging around all my gear plus a pigeon magnet which I modified to pack down smaller. I decided to order a second flapper but as I looked at the pay now button I said to my self ****** it and order 2. In using 3 flappers I have left the pigeon magnet in the car also using a smaller battery the weight of gear has dropped and the pigeons come in nice to them. Looks more natural too when you stand back from a distance looking at your decoys. Also on sunny day using the pigeon magnet you tend to get the flashing off the arms as they go round and can put off in coming pigeons. You don't get that with flappers. I have timers on the flappers so they on and off at different times and not all flapping at once. If you watch a flock of real pigeons feeding you always see birds flapping there way to the front of the flock as they move across and field. Using the 3 makes them look that way. I would even go to buying 2 more next year once the cash in the pigeon kitty picks up again. My gear, 3 flappers 2 timers (timer does 2 flappers, when 1 is on the other is off) x2 10 meter wire twin cord 1 12.5 Amp hour sealed lead battery (most of my pack weight comes from battery) 8 soft half bodied 5 box of 6's 2lts of water. not forgetting the gun x2 fold up shopping bags ( for carrying shot birds. 20 birds in each. With the room still in my back pack I can hall back 55-60 birds. Which is a good day) Not taking the magnet is a big help. I have set up the 3 flappers with out any decoys and have pigeons come straight in to them. Shoot that way quite often. So for me more the merrier......

Grate day yesterday with 108 pigeons off the rape for 161 shots. Second shooter managed 12 pigeons. Season coming close to the end. I had not shot this field for 2 weeks and keep a eye on it. noticed an few birds getting about so gave it ago and had a grate day. Total 1320 birds since 1 December.

Coming from Australia where we have wild pigs I can tell you if they are left to continue to breed it will end up a disaster. They kill and eat any thing they can get to in including live stock. Carry disease and root up pastures and will destroy newly growing tree saplings. They are dangerous and will attack people and pets. One of the best methods to find and hunt/cull pigs in Australia is to use dogs. The dogs are protected with full body armour and still can get hurt from there tusks. All the doggers I know carry first aid kits for there dogs. Main item is a large needle and thread to sow up there dogs after they have been gourd. I don't us dogs but I do use a Winchester 30 30, 7 shot leaver action on them. I also use a 12g with OO/SG buck shot but I can tell you pigs from 70kg up take some dropping if the shot is not on. Its taken up to 3 shots to drop big pigs that's why I mainly use the 30 30. Pigs grow fast and breed up to 3 times a year. They don't take long to get out of control. The only thing good about them is they are fast and fun to hunt.........

Hi PW members, Well after coming back to the UK to visit family for 12 months after 20 years of being in Australia I arrived on the 1st Dec 2014 chomping at the bit to get out for a shot. I shoot in Australia but we don't have Woodpigeons. The first outing was on the 5th Dec and using my dad's spare side by side off we went. Meeting up with more family as a surprise that morning we got over that and still chomping at the bit to load up finally I started off in a hide under a old oak tree. No decoys at this stage just watching the pigeons fighting here and there. After a short what a single pigeon came my way. Came from left to right on a slight angle, in range, I raised the gun and BANG! My first pigeon in 20 years. Grate. After a bit of fluffing about moving there and there on the farm ended up in a hide decoying over rape. at the end of the day with a few shots here and there I was not happy with my self and my shooting for the day with a score of 3 pigeons, 42 shots. 1 in 14 shots!!!!!!!!!!!!! After 20 years away I forgot how fast and zig zaggy the ******* can flight!!!!! 2 days later we headed out once again. Shooting in the same spot the end result was slightly better but I was still not happy. 9 pigeons, 39 shots. 1 in 6.3 shots. Over the year my dad has kept shooting records and if you don't you should as it is very interesting looking back years and seeing your number. The records are of 4 shooters dad, uncle and cousin and after the 20 I have joined in again this year. So the long story shortened since the 5th December right up to today I have shot most days and in-between this time I struggled to get any decent numbers in the first 7 shoots out so I ended up buying my own gun. And with a bit of home customizing modifications one was changing those stupid optical fibre red barrel sight (all I do is stare at the dam thing and not the bird) to a standard brass pip sight and lengthen the butt to fit me so I'm not looking down the barrel my shooting is the best I've ever done and will be the best I'll ever do. So up to date from 5th Dec today 17/03/2015 I have shot 47 Days 2108 shots 1162 pigeons with a average of 1 bird in 1.81 shots. Happy as a pig in you know what. The best day so far was on 18 Feb shooting 91 pigeons and 134 shots. 1 in 1.47 shots. All shot over rape. So do anyone else keep scores and I have always been interested in peoples Average's. Anyone care to shear there's? Well I better load up and check the freshly drilled beans.
