  1. With all 5; Sadie, Pennie, Louie, Jack and Benjie. With the Clowns.
  2. I always rub butter on my hands - teach the dog that skin is for licking rather than biting. But I only do this now and again because if you do it too much you end up with a dog that just licks and licks and licks - and thats more annoying! Other than that I give the pups something they can chew - an old tea towel soaked in non salted chicken soup and then frozen, or chicken wings. And also distraction with toys instead.
  3. After receiving a message from a member on here about a class not far away from where I live; I decided to go over with the boy and have a look. I always watch first as if I don't like what I see I don't go for it. But I was assured to try out. And I did. And I loved it. The boy didn't show me up, I managed to hold a dead bird that wasn't frozen for a good 10 minutes! And the boy came home shattered - always a good sign. So thank you to that member It was a pleasure to meet you.
  4. Well it made me giggle
  5. I don't throw sticks for my dogs - they are extremely dangerous. Having nearly have a dog choke to death when catching one - I do not throw them anymore. I would expect you, as an evidently knowledgeable dog owner to know that.. I haven't told anyone how to train their dog - merely suggested a different method. I came on here looking for someone to let me have a chance at working my dogs and what did you do - scoff at it and look down your nose because my dogs are crossbreeds and I haven't worked them before. Do you expect me not to put up a front when people decide from the off that they aren't going to give me the chance? You expect me to listen to people who think dogs SHOULD work for them because you bought them. As far as I am concerned there are very few decent people on here and Anyway Sorry Mr Rizzini - witch hunt has again appeared on your thread. Funny how it happens only to me right.. I do apologise. Perhaps you could speak to the seemingly non existent moderators and have the unrelated posts deleted - mine included as most of them are me having to explain myself - of which i shouldn't have to.
  6. Ahh someone who thinks they know me well - how original. However, when I mentioned the ages that pups had to be wormed - I had rung the vet and talked to several breeders I know, just to be sure. Therefore - first hand knowledge - not off the net. And I have never had a worming problem with any of my 5 dogs. My oldest is 11 - therefore my zero practical knowledge is now 11 years knowledge - and regardless of what you think, most of what I read on the net is articles, vet, behaviourist, training - the likes. I don't simply google things.
  7. Firstly tapeworm is found in the intestines of animals. All worms die after a matter of weeks of freezing - I do not feed animal intestines to my dogs. Therefore - they do not pick up tapeworm. I have never had a problem with worms with any of my dogs.
  8. Well if you did then you would not have tried to tell me I was wrong. And thats the wormer we used - so not as if I googled something I hadn't already used. Mr Rizzini - I'm sure I've messaged you them somewhere. But Lana Mitchell's "Clicked Retriever" is a good book - perfect if you're struggling with "hold". Helen Phillips books are brilliant. I went on her workshop and she knows her stuff. She also works with clickers. Can't wait to see more pictures of her.

    Meeting Santa.

A friend and I decided to meet up for a walk today - we haven't been out for a while due to her bitch being in season. And whilst on our walk we saw Santa.
  12. What I said was "A decent wormer such as" Does not mean that he should go out and buy it without reading the box. If people weren't stupid they would know that. And you can use Panacur on pups - our breeder did. http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-worming-cat-worming-panacur-dog-wormers-c-17_43/panacur-10-100ml-liquid-for-cats-and-dogs-p-175
  13. Oh dear. Pups can be treated with flea treatment at 8 weeks - you just have to make sure you get the right one. Puppies should be wormed with a decent wormer such as Panacur and Drontal at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks of age. Then every month until 6 months of age then every 3 months afterwards. Personally I don't worm after 6 months unless I see evidence of worms. However I have started using a new flea treatment (advocate) that treats fleas, worms and mites. Which is a monthly topical treatment.
  14. Has anyone got one? I've never really liked Weims. They're whole persona put me off a little. However I have found myself rather intrigued by the long haired ones. The first one I came across was a couple of years ago on a pet Forum. She is one of the most titled dogs (of any breed) in the UK. http://www.callisae-longhaired-weimaraners.co.uk/#/fursdon-twylyte-tramontano/4533470057 She however passed earlier this year after celebrating her 12th birthday.
  15. Have you wormed her? Pups need worming at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 14 weeks then every 3 months after. If she was not already wormed by the breeder I would suggest so.
  16. Attack dogs or Personal protection dogs are taught to bite on command. They are encouraged to use they're mouth You do not need to have a dominant dog for this. My friend has the softest German Shepherd ever but you put a foot wrong in her owners direction she is on high alert, she will not attack unless a command is given. Actionpigeons I came on here to get my dogs into working - they have not yet experienced work and I have not yet had chance to see what problems lie where - sorry to let you down though. And I would not want to work with someone who is as arrogant as yourself. Call it all rubbish - thats your opinion. And thats your opinion. I see it as wrong, but I have an open mind so I was open to hearing the other side of the argument, unfortunately that wasn't given - I wasn't challenged with an academic level of thought - my apologies I deemed you as people with open minds and thought processes longer than your own noses - I was wrong.
  17. Firstly you did not answer my question. What is the definition of experience and if you are so experienced yourself what makes your word infinite against that of equally or even more experienced persons other than yourself? Where did I slag off any of the research? I merely said that I agreed with what Jean Donaldson says regarding dogs dominating humans.. The rest is irrelevant to the research that was produced based on questions I was asked. The bottom line - I don't believe dogs dominate humans and you can disagree or agree with that all you like - but I have produced research where as everyone else has not. You are quite welcome not to read anything I post if you barely find it tolerable. No skin off my nose. I mean surely an experienced person such as yourself would've worked out long ago that if you do not want to read something by a certain person or you find them intolerable - you simply ignore them - yes?
  18. And what classes as experience? Whoop di do you've had god knows how many dogs - doesn't mean you know everything though does it I've had 24 hamsters - does not mean that I am an expert in small rodents.. For my dogs to be able to work, train, do tricks and obey commands - they must trust me and get a reward for it. You do not need experience to get an animal to trust you. You do not need experience to be able to understand an animal - observation and patience is what you need. And you do not need to have experience to observe and be patient. But being as you are so experienced yourself - what makes your word and opinion right over those words that have been copied and pasted from other people's work - of whom have been in their chosen field probably equally or longer than the number of years you have owned dogs?
  19. And you lot laughed at my clicker trained dogs I think it's brilliant, can't wait to teach mine to drive so I don't have to learn!
  20. You can feed pork to dogs. Providing it is British - which I feed. As the wasters disease is tested for within British pork. You can also feed Chicken to dogs too! And bones and roadkill.. depends what takes your fancy. I don't humanise my animals - they are still treated as they are - how I talk about them is different And the correct word is Anthropomorphizing.
  21. The heeling: You have to be doing something wrong otherwise he should've gotten it by now. He's a mix of two intelligent breeds.. Are you switching and swapping techniques? 1 technique is all you need - you just have to stick with it - otherwise you give up just before he gets it. Check out Kikopup, you need to know a bit about Clicker training first though - but she is an amazing trainer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voW2Vkq0u6Q The barking: When you see something coming, distract him with food or a toy.. with food - don't let him have it until the thing has gone past and he's made no noise, let him lick it through your fingers. If he makes noise, then walk him away and try again. With a toy - tuggy is the best game for this. They're so focused on playing tuggy - they don't notice whats going past! Of course he'll need a give command for when the thing has gone past and you want to continue on your walk. I have two dogs that if I merely hold a ball and walk past something - they don't notice they've passed it. They get the ball thrown (when they're off lead) or given to them when the thing has passed. Sometimes obsession is your best tool! And if they have something in their gob - they can't bark! The attention span: 1, 2, 3 catch! The best game to get them watching your hands. Treats in your pocket and several times on a walk, stop, say ready, then count and throw the treat. Your dog will soon learn "Ready" means something fun. I use "ready" when I want my dogs to get ready to do something. Mine are used for obedience too so when we're getting started "Ready, Heel" it makes it a game as well as gaining their focus. Hope this helps.
  22. Erm seeing as my dogs are raw fed - they would happily share a bone.. quite often they do. They share pigs heads too and I'm hoping to soon get a goat carcass for them to share I have dogs with stronger personalities - yes but I don't call them dominant, they're just stronger characters - wilful teenagers if you will. I have a possession guarder - yes but only from humans - and not because he is trying to dominate, it's because he doesn't understand due to being given mixed signals.
  23. Appeasement signals are given when another dog is upset or a greeting it does not mean they are more dominant than the other. Perhaps you should read all the links again if you even bothered to in the first place.
