  1. I cannot ever remember a year as wet as this one, I'm certainly not taking my gun out in the pouring rain either. Lets hope for a mild winter and dry spring. Good luck with your next visit.
  2. Indeed so, over and unders just become a little mule-ish with certain loads.
  3. Good luck with the fibre, I do not change chokes when shooting fibre. The only issue I ever have with natural wads is the sharper recoil, luckily I have a decent recoil pad which helps after putting a 100 or so through.
  4. Hi All, I know that the topic was a little controversial. It is good to have healthy debate though. I do agree that not everyone hates guns, I was really asking why we don't get more coverage on the TV, especially after Peter Wilsons gold at the double trap. That was the reason for insinuating that we are a nation of gun phobes. I will be taking my father out on the 28th and trying to convert a few more during the festive break. G
  5. Well lets get em swayed to our way of thinking. I also think that non shooters are more in favour of other pursuits rather than shooting. I will certainly be on the lookout for non shooters to convert in 2013.
  6. Maybe it's because we are the responsible ones who understand the responsibilities of owning a gun. What is the old saying "Don't knock it until you've tried it" I'm all in favour of the novice shoot, where could we hold it? Lets show em what a great bunch we are.
  7. As an engineer I enjoy shooting for other reasons than purely hitting the target, my eye is always caught by the craftsmanship that goes into making a "gun". Some people would think that this is weird but as we all have our load to bear in life and this is one of mine. Guns of any kind are seen as tools to kill, unfortunately this will be a view that you nor I will ever change. The Olympics had a fantastic opportunity to promote shooting but failed to do so with the poor coverage of the sport, I tried to view coverage on line of the preliminary rounds of the clay shooting, only to find that the caption 'no coverage available' kept cropping up. The TV companies would rather promote overpaid actors and the like who are currently being investigated for depraved acts. How can we improve the sports appearance? (Does anyone remember 'Starshot'?)
  8. I am sure the funding is as generous as the coverage. I watched Peter smoke those clays in the knowledge that he made it look far to easy. They should have shown the qualification rounds so that non shooters could get some idea of how tough it is.
  9. Ha ha ha, no pressure just good fun. I will probably go down on Sunday at some point. I will also go just after the big day as well. See you soon. Gerard
  10. Exactly what I was taught, when shooting at 100+ yds this can have a massive impact on hit rates. In the US many pistol shooters use the joint. Thanks for the comments, you never know what answers you will get. Have a great Christmas everyone.
  11. Seems I am in good company being a pad user. Unfortunately this is just one less thing to blame the missed birds on.
  12. I was taught to use the pad at the tip of your finger to pull the trigger (distal phalanx), it is more sensitive to pressure which is critical for long range rifle shooting. Does anyone have any comments regarding shotguns, is it better to use the joint due to the quick pull required? I do suppose most of you will say "do what is most comfortable", however changes in areas like this can make a big difference to your hit rate.
  13. It 7 1/2 ish lbs I hurl mine like a club. Maybe why my shooting is so poor. Have a great Christmas, I am sure I will bump into you very soon. Gerard
  14. I did find some of the minis a bit elusive, who cares if you miss though it is all good practice. I can miss with the best of them. Maybe you should shoot with me? Cheers G
  15. Nice gun, is that the one with the nice vented middle rib? I am a lowly silver pigeon shooter . Merry Christmas mate, Big G
  16. I will be up at Kelbrook just after the big day, taking my father along for a round, should be fun; will probably be there on the 29th, if anyone is about would be great to meet up. I may also try to get over on Sunday 23rd if anyone is about (you will probably all be Christmas shopping). Cheers all, Gerard
  17. I agree with you, there is a much bigger issue! All I was saying about the law in the states was that there were no real restrictions on any firearms. Laws won't take the 300,000,000 guns off the streets and that is not the answer. There is no answer to the issue is there?
  18. What did she go with in the end? Zoli are a nice gun.
  19. Yep you are indeed correct, nice semi auto by the way. Did you manage to hit that rabbit on stand 3, I took three attempts before clipping it as the tree stump kept obscuring the view. I think a serious session is in order over the festive period. By the way, you should try a .410 some time, I couldn't hit a darn thing with it.
  20. Went again on Sunday with my son (8 years old), they loaned me a .410 for him to use (£5). If you want a thoroughly enjoyable shoot then this is the place to go. Prices are good and the birds are testing, some of the very testing. I think I may invest in a lesson or two as I do seem to be a bit rusty, possible down to old age and not moving quite as well I used to.
  21. Did you read the Connecticut restriction allowing a handgun to be carried openly in public with a permit. Whoopee do some restriction, Connecticut you can teach the UK a thing or two. I won't post on this one again, members just read selectively and don't grasp the moral of what is being said. Cheers all
  22. Thank you Ordnance, all I am saying is respect your right to hold firearms, look after the keys to your safe and remember that the people out there who hate guns may have a very real reason to do so. Oh yes, HDAV go and have a long think about your comment regarding how i feel about the law, personally I think the UK laws are too strict but that is my opinion, the same however cannot be said for the US. Finally my son will never get his hands on the keys to my safe, can you say the same? By the way what restrictions, we are talking about the US.
  23. I know what my Beretta is capable of, I am also sane. I just feel terribly sorry for the poor families in the US who have suffered. Our laws are some of the toughest in the world and my point would reflect that, somebody in the States must impose some kinds of restrictions to reduce the likelihood of this happening again. I know that you cannot stop this kind of thing but at least try to do something. Anybody have any ideas.....?
  24. I agree with a majority of the posts here, the whole issue boils down to nobody in the States being able to get any credible gun controls passed. Forget the UK we are not the issue at the moment. If you had just been told your kids had been murdered you would want something doing to stop this kind of thing, however the gun owners just keep harping on about the right to bear arms. We all have guns (well most of us do). Go take a look at it long and hard and just think about what it is capable of, then try to imagine it in the hands of a nutter. My sons are 6 & 8 and it sends a shiver down my spine.
  25. Come on, we shouldn't forget that there are more than 300,000000 legally held firearms in the US. Three hundred million now argue that one!!! ;-)
