  1. Hello, I am looking at getting a firearms license for a .22lr and a .17hmr and possibly even something a little bigger mainly for shooting rabbits and foxes. I've heard that although you can get a license at 14 they are reluctant to issue you with one if you don't got to any target clubs. My father has a shotgun and firearms license and I have a shotgun license. Is it worth me applying for one? (I'm in the North Yorkshire area if that makes a difference) Any advice much appreciated, Thanks, lou13
  2. I thought about shooting them over the oats as by the time they reach the sheep field they could be flighting anywhere in the space of 300ft where as if I get them over the oats theres more chance of me being under them as i can get closer to the pond, if you know what i mean? Think of a slice of pizza (haha ) The geese flying over the crust is more dispersed than when they fly over the first inch of pizza? Weird way of putting it but hopefully you'll understand
  3. Im up in North Yorkshire and theres hundreds of them! They're making a mess of the sheep fields and need to be controlled before they get out of hand. Not long to the season now though!
  4. Im going shooting tomorrow evening for some Canada Geese and have been watching their flight lines for the past few days, usually i'll set up a standard pigeon hide on a hedge and shoot them coming over, but their flight line isnt very consistent. There is a pond that they're coming off then over a oat field then over a sheep field (which is where i usually set the hide). The closest I can get to the pond is in the oat field so I will shoot them from that. The oats almost about waist height, anyone have any ideas about going about this? e.g. how to hide (perhaps lying down in the tramlines etc). Its a bit confusing but all help much appreciated! thanks, lou13
  5. Not long to go now before the season begins and i'm on the search for some suitable cartridges. I will be shooting both ducks and geese with a 20 bore beretta silver pigeon. Obviously it needs to be a non toxic load but i cant find any so I was wondering if anyone else knows of some suitable cartridges that you've tried before. Thanks, lou13
  6. Hi! I am looking at buying a Lamp for some rabbit control, with my .22LR I want it cheap as possible and I will also need a battery. Has anyone got any suggestions? What about the kit on A1Decoys? http://www.a1decoy.co.uk/the-ultimate-100w-lamping-package-491-p.asp Thanks, lou13
  7. Hi! I am getting involved more in pigeon shooting and I need to purchase a hide (not just for pigeons!) so I was looking at getting this starter pack which seemed a fairly good deal, pigeon decoys are a bonus! Has anyone had any experience with this or know of a combo I should get? heres the link..... http://www.a1decoy.co.uk/pigeon-shooting-starter-pack-651-p.asp thanks, lou13
  8. I've recently purchased one! Great little gun! I've only fired a box of cartridges on some canada geese at the weekend so not had too much experience with it yet. Just wondering do I have the game gun or clay gun? It has the auto safety so Im guessing game? thanks, lou13
  9. In fact they have a whole list of non toxic cartridges haha! they have even got some 20 gauge 30gram 4 shot however I don't fancy paying 60£ for 25! thanks for the help everyone!
  10. Thanks, are they just cartridges own brand or can I get the -£15 at my local dealer? thanks, lou13

  14. yea thanks for the help and link! I think I might struggle as I need to shoot geese! Probs will have to look at getting a 12gauge semi auto
  15. Hi! I am just wondering if any of you use steel shot in your cartridges for 20 bore as I can not seem to find any anywhere and may have to purchase a cheap 12 gauge semi auto. I don't mean light clay loads as it will be for game so I need a 30+ gram 1s, 2s or 3s. If you do please can you tell me the name of the cartridge! thanks, lou13
  16. Hi! I was helping out with lambing on the farm yesterday when it came to my attention that there was a hell of a lot of Canada Geese in one of the neighbouring fields, I questioned him about them and he said he keeps having to scare them off as their a pain as they are eating all of the grass and fouling everywhere! I suggested shooting them and he said he had to get some special thing? Can anyone tell me if I need a licence or if I can just go out and shoot them? Because if I can he said I'm welcome to get rid of them! Also would a 20 gauge suffice or should I be using a 12? Is lead shot okay or do I need steel? What load would you recommend? Thanks, all help much appreciated! lou13

  18. Haha! Good idea! Well i've got nothing else to do so will give it a go in the morning and if i'm not too successful I'll shoot them coming into roost in the evening!
  19. Seal Skinz! Cant beat them, I have the ones with an index and thumb flap! Great piece of kit!
  20. Hi! I have been shooting for a long time now and have shot pigeons coming into roost, however I am totally new to decoying. I am hoping to get out this weekend in one of my fields, so can anyone give me any tips and advice from anything such as equipment, setting up and the actual shooting? (I have plenty of decoys!) All help appreciated!! Thanks, lou13
  21. Hi! I have a firearm and shotgun certificate and my gun safe contains both rifles and shotguns, however my son, aged 23, wants to apply for a shotgun certificate. Now I know you can share a safe but in this case it would mean he had access to firearms. Rather than buying another safe can he put down on his application something along the lines of....."blah blah blah in my fathers gun cabinet with only him having access to the key" (I dont think that makes sense but you get the idea!) Please can someone tell me how to go about this and if they have any idea what they would write in the storage section. All help would be much appreciated! Thanks, lou13
  22. Haha! That sounds bad! Hope you have a good day!
  23. Hi! I do abit of pigeon shooting around my land but the pigeons don't seem to roost in the woods on my land. Is there anyway I can get them to roost in my woods so i can shoot them flighting in on an evening? thanks, lou13
