Plenty of Munties around on our farms in Northants. No CWD though.

Depends on why you're 'visiting'.
If you don't know him, and you're asking for shooting then no time is a good time.
If you're offering help in return for shooting, then no time is a good time.
However, if you're offering help full stop, then anytime would be a good time.
(The shooting would naturally follow by invitation when you've earned his trust and shown that you're not just a 'chancer'.)
Maybe not all 'keepers would act as above....maybe it's just me...... :look:

Speak to Chris at Anglo Custom Rifle (Anglo Website.
He'll give you a price after identifying exactly what you want. He will also do the job quickly and efficiently.

England and Wales
For Muntjac and Chinese Water deer only- a rifle with a minimum calibre of not less than .220 inches and muzzle energy of not less than 1000 foot pounds and a bullet weight of not less than 50 grains may be used.
Just one thing to add to marks response....you also need to use a soft point bullet designed for the job in hand, and not a ballistic tipped bullet designed for varminting.

Great balance, very pointable and I'll never sell mine - it's speshal.
BTW they are all different so pick a few up and have a play
That about sums them up. I traded a Beretta for my F3 and have never looked back.
Very very pointable and has improved my shooting superbly.

To make way for a new 'Project' I have decided to sell my beloved .243Win as below:-
.243Win Remington700 'Varmint'
Bell & carlson stock (Bedded)
Timney trigger
ATec Sound Moderator
Picatinny Rail
I have owned the rifle from new, it is in immaculate condition, and has fired less than 400 rounds.
The rifle is very accurate with my pet load for 75gn VMax. (I will supply load data)
It will come with 100 Lapua cases (Fire formed in this rifle), 150+ bullets, and 1/2 Tub of Vit N140 powder.
I may also be able to dig out various other .243Win reloading bits and pieces.
The lot for £550. (Please note! Bipod, Scope and rings not included in sale).
Face to face or RFD to RFD at your cost please.

Ballistic tipped hunting bullets are fine as long as they are not driven too fast.
This past season I've used 120gn Nosler BT out of my .260Rem driven at 2800fps and they have
done the job very well indeed, no excessive meat damage, good penetration, very good stoppers.
-
I use BR2's for my .260Rem and 6.5Nemasis loads, never had any problems, always provide consistant accuracy.
I also use BR4's in my 6mm BR, and same there, very consistant accuracy so no complaints about them either.

I have an IOR 3-18 x 42 Illum on my foxing rig and have use it in anger now for two years...I honestly can't fault it in any way.
Repeatability when dialing has been good when I've done some long range work with the rifle, and the glass is excellent.
Baldrick - IOR now do a tapered two piece rail that will fit the Sako taper, I have one on my A2 and it works just fine.

A few gun shops have said that i will a sporter out in as little 1000/1500 shots and a Heavey barrel will 3000/4000 is this ture.
Absolute rubbish! If I were you I would stay clear of those gunshops in future and find one that knows what they're talking about.
No need for heavy/varmint profile barrels unless you intend to do lots of papaer punching in long sessions.
I have a sporter weight barrel on my 6mm BR and it will shoot the 'nads of a magpie at 500 yards with great regularity.....

are BT's legal for deer?
Steve
Yes....but make sure you use BT's designed for hunting and not varminting.
ALSO...drive them at the correct speed and they are excellent....drive them too fast and they will not penetrate and expand correctly.
-
Steve,
For a nice stock for your CZ look at Wild Dog. I have one on my .22lr and it transformed the accuracy.

On a Sako or Tikka, you would be a fool to not use optilocks. compact, secure, reliable return to zero if removed and no damage mounting because of the inserts, they fit straight to the action and have recoipl studs. Large range of sizes too. Just be aware that the bases for sako and tikka rifles are slightly different but the rings are the same. No silly little tiny screws either going into your action.
It is a no brainer.
Check out the links here for your rifle.

If you have loads of brass from factory fired ammo you may not need a case trimmer for a while.
I would suggest that a case length trimmer is one of the first things that you buy, overlength cases can cause serious problems.
You can pick up a Lee case length gauge and trimmer for around £10...money very well spent.

Hi...can you just buy the reference material and pay for that and the cost of the test???
i will struggle to finance both this and the meat hygiene course if it meant £300 for the DSC1, but if i can just get the reference material and sit the test i should be able to do both this year. My FEO also said that by my next renewal it would probably be a legal requirement to have a DSC1.
Toka,
Yes you can just do the test....but you would still need to fork out for the study material, which would need to
be up to date.
DSC1 covers you for large game hygiene (Deer), so you would only have to do the meat hygiene course if you also wanted to sell small game.

myself and many others shoot live quarry at 500 yards plus,so we all must be idiots ehh
idiots who
precision load and fine tune there ammo
use range finders to get an exact distance
use optics that cost more tham your months wages
use wind meters
use ballistic programmes along side a chrono to get precise data
have a a rifle built to be able to shoot precession long range
take the time to field test there set ups so a long shot can be made
Mmmm looks like I'm an idiot too Ackley.
-
Don't worry Dave, you went with the right one
-
You say ''Live quarry''
Now, I'm pretty sure if you hit a rabbit - anywhere - at most ranges - with a .243 it's going to be oblitareted so, I'd be happy with someone attempting a 500 yard shot.
If, you mean on a deer, (let's say - red deer) The heart shot would be far to small an area to accuratly hit, and I wouldn't expect it to be taken under 200 yards, not saying that the bullet wouldn't kill much further on.
Have you ever seen the heart/lung area of a Red deer compared to a rabbit? I think you would be surprised at the size......
-
I settled on .260Rem after owning many, but not all, other deer legal calibers.
Ticks all the boxes for me.
-
If you can show good reason to own the .17Rem, and show safe shooting practice, aware of footpaths etc then your FEO
should have no issues with allowing you the centrefire. As HD said, have a word with BASC.
However, in your post above you mentioned your use being for long range pigeons and rabbits?
That could be a stumbling block if that is your 'good reason'.

Before you start with the whistle make sure she is 100% on voice commands.
Then start to blow the stop command on the whistle, immediately followed by the voice 'stop/sit/wait' command.
Your pup will soon pick it up. (Don't rush it, at 10 months she is still a pup remember)
-
Any dog will get used to any whistle that you select and use regularly, whether it be 210.5 or 211.5, spaniel, lab, HPR........
-
I haven't received my April issue yet John, but I await it with interest.
Is this the Richard Faulds of clay pigeon shooting fame? If so.....nuff said!
-
I use 211.5 for both my GSP's and Sprocker.
Dan, on our shoot it's split pretty much 50/50, half using 210.5 and half using 211.5 (All spaniels as you know)
look round the farm today rape allmost ready to spray off

We're about two weeks behind you Baldrick, and the Lexions have been replaced by John Deere 630's this year.
