  1. Hi Dave, I've been told about derwent valley but couldn't find anything about it - not even location. North riding sounds good as it's just round the corner - are they there on weekends? Yeah - I'd love to tag along at some point! I have a hectic January but I might drop you a PM at some point? Cheers
  2. Interesting - Asking what model it is (after further reading, I think I'll want an ammo safe in it too?) If it's decent I may very well head down and pick it up! Does anyone know if something like this is easy to fit in a car? I know it's got no chance of getting in the back of the XE, but maybe in an A3? Also - what do you think of these? Thanks for the pointer.
  3. Can I ask what model this is? Thanks
  4. Thanks guys - I'll keep an eye out. Unfortunately the garage is the only realistic option for me. It's an electric garage door (not sure how safe/unsafe these are seen as) but it's fully alarmed with the main house alarm. I've heard back from Yorkshire field sports (Tadcaster) - they offer a 10 lesson introduction course that teaches you the basics of handling, cleaning, the law, etc, for £250 (so £25 per 1 hour lesson). They also give you a certificate of competence to send off with your licence application form. This sounds quite reasonable I guess for someone like myself?
  5. Hi Chris, Unfortunately I wouldn't have anywhere to fit it in the house (hence the upsizing ) but the garage is attached to the house and I've insulated it so it keeps fairly warm. I've had a look for those cabinets but can't find them cheap. Should I be looking elsewhere to eBay? Cheers
  6. Thanks for all the advice from everyone. Sounds like I need a gun cabinet. Can this be installed in a garage with no issue (into solid brick) or does it need to be in the house? Also, is this kind of thing enough? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290630255183 Lastly, mortgage is up in a year and I'm looking to upsize - is this going to be painful regarding the license?
  7. Cheers! Do I still need a gun cabinet or can I say that I plan to hire for now? I understand different locations are different, but would it be reasonable to say that to my local FAE?
  8. Cheers! PM'd. Also, I head back from NOEAC and they offer lessons for £65 an hour. A little expensive. Barwick-in-elmet is still the best place to 'learn' right now. Does anyone know if you can get a shotgun license without owning a shotgun? Most clubs seem to want a license, even if hiring a gun.
  9. How long have you been in the sport? I don't even know the very basics at the moment so I'm sure there will be many things I'll learn! When do you normally go over? I'm free last weekend in Jan if you're about?
  10. Hi Washerboy - that sounds interesting As I say, I've shot a few times before but I'm 100% still a novice - I don't even know most of the terms! If you'd still be interested in meeting and teaching me the basics, I'd be very greatful When do you normally go over?
  11. Thanks figgy - smaller clubs sound like the thing I'm after! I guess the problem with the smaller ones is finding them as they don't tend to be advertised/have websites. I do drive so it's easy to get to if I find the right one!
  12. I've seen the North of England clay centre but their website suggests they're an event type company? If they're a club that can offer membership/help/similar prices to the one in Barwick in Elmet, it would be perfect!
  13. Thanks for the pointer. Handy to know it's there! This place looks good but it's £65 per 50 clays 1-on-1 lessons instead of £35 which is the price of the one in Barwick-in-Elmet, and they're the same distance from me.
  14. Hi Guys, I've shot clays a few times and I've decided it's a sport I would like to get into. I'm from North Yorkshire and I was wondering if anyone knew of any clubs in the area (rather than just experience day type venues) I found one in Barwick-in-Elmet which seems excellent (£35 for 50 clays including instructor, gun hire and cartridges). You turn up for 3 of the instructor led sessions and then you can become a member if they think you're competent (I'm not a certificate holder) This is the kind of thing I'm after, and it's a very good option, but I was wondering if there's something very similar a little closer to home that someone on here may know of? In due course, I'd like to become a certificate holder and a club closer to home would mean that it's easier to go down the range on a Sunday if I get board if I do eventually own my own firearm/become a certificate holder. Cheers! Ian
