  1. Mexico in February is wonderful although not been for a few years now
  2. Eggs are bought from France /Spain due to the weather its more economical to over winter them further south ie partridges iv been told that in the last three years we became more reliant on pheasant eggs from France people in the uk not wanting to invest. as buying in has been the cheeper option I have my own laying stock and as said here before come feb 2 you start all over so its a lot of work as to the price I had a conversation last night with a gun from another shoot and he said there will be no increase so I happen to say when you take into account diesel, electric for the incubator, gas for the brooder , drugs when there sick ,food ie pellets now £700 per ton wheat £300 *** may head to £500 fertiliser for maize this year its £1000 ton and the seed and tractor cost I said you must be a fruit cake if you think it will stay the same can any one give me an indication as to what they are actually paying per poult this year assuming you can get them any comment much appreciated
  3. hi I found the the water soon went green in an IBC ,if you can cover it or paint it great, black will get hot and birds will rather die than drink hot water so try to think cool or don't over fill and old galvanised tank from somones roof with a ply lid would be better , see how far you are away from mains i.e. cattle trough my shoot thought I was mad spending £200 on connecting to mains thirty years on not so silly you can run the pipe on the surface but be wear squirrels will chew the pipe, if you can get a five gallon drum cap put on IBC outlet make a hole in it and fit a Tyer valve in it but run a drill through first then connect some 8mm( I think )black pipe from agri merchant coins net solway feeders so on I ran the pipe to a old bucket with top cut off and made a float valve this can be done home made now days water is so important to be clean cold if you can find a few quid buy nipple drinker I have triangle ones they won't foul the water and don't cost much buy one each year and you soon have a few my only pen that is not on mains has a yellow bowser with similar outlet set up water is towed up to the pen what you have been doing has been great because they have had fresh water and many keepers do what you have been doing its all hard work try not to cut corners with water though best of luck

  9. this is a one that i have made from wood but can just as easily be made from box i can post more pictures if you would like if you try to make a wooden one use bolts and pass a long piece of threaded rod through the ladder the rail is made from copper water pipe covered with foam and then wrapped with insulation tape
  10. hi set up an account just to reply i run five larsen traps during the spring and have been trapping for thirty years mainly with the type made from the game conservancy plans, the best one i have is the big round one like they sell off the shelf at solway feeders im sure i bought mine from aftershock though go for the quality one and it will last for years, they have gravity drop doors and it out catches the wooden ones by a country mile iv even caught with no call bird it will catch crows and magpie with ease and side entry seems to be better with them walking in but sometimes its down to the call bird to how best they work. they are very easy to move around. as my old wooden traps get to the end of there working lives i will replace with this style, this is of course my own opinion and im sure many others have very different ones but in my experience you will not be disappointed
