  1. Hi, See the TD5 Alive Web Site below: http://www.td5alive.com/egr.php Gary did quite a bit of work on my TD5 all of which was first class, must admit I did but an EGR kit off him but never got round to fitting it, they are much better than the things you get off Ebay. Think I may still have it somewhere if you want to make me an offer. Hewey
  2. Starlight, For a 36g shell they didn't seem to have that much recoil in fact I was surprised they were as smooth as they were, I was expecting a lot more kick. Think they were only £5.95 a box although can't remember exactly as bought quite a few others at the time. Hewey
  3. Hi All, Just to let you know I ended up buying some BORNAGHI 36G Steels from Alan at Eastern Sporting. Tried them out on the Ducks on Saturday and I have to say they performed very well indeed. Took some really good birds with them. If your after a non-toxic cheapish shell then I would recommend giving these a go. Hewey
  4. Hi MC, Yep they are for ducks over ponds, I have tried the Express before but personally found the RC's to be better. Busbiter, yep sure he would of taken them back but it just put me off to be honest. May give him a ring and see what he has. Cheers Hewey
  5. Hi MC, Thanks for that, must admit haven't been over to Johnathons for quite some time since I got a load of shells that were rusty. Don't like the way he keeps them in thoses outside containers, think they must get damp. Also he was giving me 10p a pigeon where I now get 25p elsewhere. May give it a go as a last resort. Thanks H
  6. Hi All, Has anyone used Bornagi (excuse spelling) steel cartridges. Can't find anywhere local that stocks RC Steels which I used last year to great effect. Tried Express and a few others last year but found the RC's or Remington to be the best although the RC's where half the price of the Remi's. Cheers Hewey
  7. NOW SOLD Hi All, Just a long shot but is anyone interested in my other halves Seat Ibiza DAB 1.4 Sport. It's a Limited Edition Model based on the Sport but has a 100bhp as standard rather than 85 and has a Blaupunt DAB CD Tuner. She has had it since new, great little car but just too small for us since having the baby. It's bright Emocian Red, 3 Dr, with 37.5K miles and Full Seat Service History, Still under Manufacturers Warranty until mid October. Quite Nippy for a 1.4 and very economical. Only group 5 insurance. Have put a deposit on a new estate car so it needs to go. Seat Dealer has offered just under 5K to buy it from me direct so if anyone can make £5000 they can have it. Just Put it on Autotrader for £5250 ono. If anyone wants pictures I can send via PM. Locatated in North Essex. Cheers Hewey
  8. Sammy, If you go onto Parkers Car Web Site they will give you costs.
  9. Wookie, My MPG doesn't give a true real world reading as I mainly use it around the country roads and around fields. Still I'm getting 24-25MPG average which for a 2.4 Petrol is more than I expected and is better than my old TD5 Auto. Hewey.
  10. Hi Matt, I really think it depends of how much cash your looking to spend. If your not looking to spend much I'd go for the Terrano, I've got a R' Reg SWB but with the 2.4i Petrol engine. Had it for over a year now and had no problems with it at all, only cost me £1350 with 48K Miles. Like I said to you when I picked up the BBQ, I sold my 53' Reg TD% XS Discovery as after the baby was born the Mrs. took over my Disco to get all the gear in but reckoned it was too big for her (Women Drivers!! ) So I ended up selling it , getting her a new Zafira and buying the Terrano for shooting/fishing. It's surprisingly good off road, at least as good if not better than my Discovery, although the Terrano has got more off-road biased tyres which I'm sure do help. As has been said, very little room in the back with the seats up but plenty of room with them down. Not sure what they are like as tow vehicles, I would guess the Shogun would be heavier so may tow better. Also the Terrano is only 2WD with selectable High and Low 4WD, although it does have what is meant to be a very good LSD. Hewey
  11. Hi Andy, Damm fine purchase if you don't mind me saying, lol... If you want a good Web site then the Nissan 4x4 Owners Club can be found on : http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/ It does charge a £10 membership fee, not loads of people on there but the guy's there really do know their stuff. Good Luck with the Terrano. Hewey
  12. Dave Dog, If you actually read my post I never said that the Terrano was better off road than a Discovery, in fact I deliberately didn't say that. But now you raised the point..... lol I had General Grabber AT2's on my 53 Plate Discovery which did have the Diff lock option and to be honest on a slippery surface my old Nissan feels much more stable and doesn't slip around as much, ok It's got MT's on the back but only basic AT's on the front. Basically Tyres and Driver make so much difference off road, comparing one car to another unless driven by the same person on the same tyres is a waste of time, I can only comment on my experiences. Considering my last Disco cost me over 17K when I bought it and my Terrano only £1350 then value for money off road the Nissan blows it away. OK I'd rather do a 500 mile journey in the Disco but the Terrano really is great value for money (if you get a good one). The fact of the matter is that this thread was started by Andy asking which 4x4 to get for £1500, I doubt you would get a very good reliable Disco for only £1500, whereas he could get a Terrano or Maverick which could prove reliable transport and require very little work. Yep I do miss my Disco's especicially my 4.0 V8 one but I don't miss the unreliability, (never left me stranded but always something going wrong with all of them) neither do I miss the wet footwells where they always leak. My Nissan just seems to go wherever I point it and for a shooting/fishing work horse does a great job. Hewey
  13. Take a look at Nissan Terrano's/Ford Mavericks. I bought my R Reg Terrano SWB over a year ago now with only 48K on the clock for £1350, just gone straight through it's MOT again. I've had 3 Disco's in the past, a 300Tdi, a Series II 4.0 V8 and a late Series II TD5, all cost a lot of money to run, all leaked and all were unreliable. The Nissan's very good offroad, in fact going by the book it's got more ground clearance than a Disco and not bad onroad either but mainly I've had no problems with it, I only use it for Shooting or fishing so sits around most of the time but still starts first time every time. Highly recommended, as with all old motors though take your time when choosing to make sure you get a good one. Sills are prone to go on the Terrano's but mine are still perfect. Even though it is a SWB with the rear seats down there's a surprising amount of room in the back for all my shooting gear. Hewey

    BETS PLEASE

Hi LV, I think it goes on what the vehicle books at rather than what you have it insured for and if written off never accept their first offer it's usually below what it's worth. Try and get some cost details of comparable vehicles currently up for sale so you have a bit of ammunition should they say it's been written off. Good Luck with it anyway. That Navara was way too clean the other night when I saw it, about time you put it to some proper use.
  15. Jonny, Obviously give them a ring to see what they have in stock before you go but they had a very wide range when I went up. After 2 hours I decided on a Browning 525 Advance 12G, I then had a choice of about 7 different ones to get the one that fitted and looked the best. Oh and don't be put off if a Women Serves you, when I walked in and a women said "how can I help" I thought Oh no this is a waste of time, how wrong could I have been, think her name was Shirley, (sure someone will put me right if not) she was great, think she used to shoot for England, amazingly helpful, not only did she fit me for the right gun it was more like receiving a lesson in shooting, changing how I stood, asking about what cartridges I use etc. etc. etc. I've been shooting 28years but what she told me has helped me no end. After choosing the Gun she then got one of the Shooting teachers there to take me out onto the range with it, suppled me with a jacket and cartridges (at no cost) and I had a go with it before I parted with my cash. She told him what I had been doing wrong with stance etc. and he then basically gave me a lesson. Excellent Service, know it's a long way to travel (I live between Chelmsford and Colchester) but was well worth it. And No I'm not on commision.!!! Hewey
  16. As with any Gun it is not a matter of which is best it's a matter of what fit's the best and how he feels with it. Both Brownings and Beretta's are very good guns but you usually find that people fit one better than the other, he really needs to go to a good Gunshop preferably with a shooting ground and try a few out. I know it's a long way from you but Oxford Gun Company were great when I was looking for my last Gun spent about 2.5 hours there going through various ones and got a really good deal too. Also don't rule out an Auto, a 12 bore will be a better/easier gun for a beginner to shoot at clays, although from a safety perspective Auto's for beginners aren't always a good thing. I have 2 Beretta Auto's, a 391 Urika Sporter and a 391 Tekny's Field, the field is a surprisingly light gun which has minimal recoil, if fact these days my Father (now 69 years old) uses it all the time with no problems at all. I also have a BSA Regent 20 bore, I this bought after selling my Silver Pigeon III as just couldn't get on with it. This for the money is a very nice little gun, slightly heavier than the beretta but I get on much better with it, it's great for game and walked up shooting but for Clays I either use my Auto's or more often my Browning 525 Advance 12G. So don't rule an Auto out but he really needs to handle a variety of guns and find which fit's the best with someone that know's what they are talking about before you decide to part with any cash. Good Luck with whatever you decide on. Hewey
  17. Very good MC, Though he was just trying to grab my A**e Thought it strange that next doors shed had the lock hanging of it..
  18. Cheers LV, I hope so too. Yep that was quite a day, will be lucky if I manage to better that although have had about 6 in the 200's. My old chap once had 498 over peas when he used to live in Yorkshire so doubt I'll top that ever.!!
  19. Think that's enough Gif's for now lets just hope that's right Shot Shot.
  20. Hi All, Just got back from meeting up with LV to buy his BBQ he had For Sale. First Forum member I've had the pleasure to meet, really Top Bloke and a pleasure to do business with. Will have to try and make an effort to get to one of the future Shoot meet's, to put a few more faces to names, just a bit difficult getting the time these days. And before any of you ask NO just because I've got the BBQ doesn't mean a meet at mine for Sausages, Burgers etc. All I need now is some good weather to see if it cooks as good as it looks.!! Hewey

    Outback Gas BBQ

Thanks LV, Likewise and nice to meet you. Top Chap to do business with, hope to try and get along to a shoot meet and see you again some time. Hewey
  22. You should be able to pick up a good Nissan Terrano/Ford Maverick for under £1300. I bought an old R' Reg last year for £1350 with a years MOT and only 48K miles, not had any trouble with it at all. Unlike my 53 Plate Discovery which I sold just before the bottom dropped out of the market.
  23. Totally agree with MC, Mungler and Baldrick. Alan's a Top Bloke, use him all the time now rather than certain others.!! Always seems to have a great stock of shells in and if he hasn't got what you want is more than happy to get them for you.
  24. I know they are meant to be the same but I still find I personally get on better with the Yellow original SIPE's.
