  1. Hi Guy's, Just thought I'd share with you a great day I had yesterday on spring rape field near home. Took the old man with me, he suffers badly with his hips these days (too stuborn to get them fixed) which meant I had a hard day running around picking them up. He shot my Teckny's Auto whilst I used my newish (only shot 50 shells until Saturday) Browning 525. Had been watching the field for a week or so, someone had been there on Tuesday and Thursday shooting about 40 in total. Anyway got set-up on Saturday morning and started shooting at about 06:30, they just kept coming in one after the other until about 14:00 when it started to slow down, packed up at 17:00 when we ran out of shells. Could have gone and got more but by that time the pigeons were very few and far between. Anyway 500 shells later we picked a total of 307, not the greatest of shooting but not that bad considering we had the sun in our eyes early on which didn't help. Thankfully for me a mate brought his Spaniel down to help pick up as we were shooting on the edge of a thick wood and had some high Game cover nearby which a lot had dropped into, I'm sure we'd never have made the 300 mark without him. Although when taking the photo for us he did cut out the first 2 or 3 rows of birds.

  3. Hi Cranfield, That's what I thought until Johnathon said that's how they'd been delivered to him.!!!
  4. Hi All, Been watching a rape field recently covered in Pigeon's, decided to have a go on Sunday, got all the gear in the Disco, went to the Field, typical not many about, set up anyway hoping for a good day. Well all I got was 15, totally gutted, not worth setting up for. To make matter's worse I took them over to Brown's Game dealer at Eastthorpe near Colchester, opened the Cooler Room door and there in front of me was one of the 1 Ton Bag's virtually full to the brim.!!!!! Just wondering if it was anyone on here that had shot them and how many there actually was, typical didn't have my camera phone on me to take a picture but some lucky ******* certainly had one hell of a day or two. Come on I'm sure whoever it was is gagging to own up to them. Well done whoever it was.
  5. Hi Julian, Web site good mate, if you could pursuade them to put pictures on the guns in stock on there that would be even better.!! I'm after a Browning 525 20 bore now but would really like to get an idea of what the wood is like on them before I make the long trip. Glenshooter, you must have a good memory, must admit sorry don't remember you but then again I had my mind on other things like my new 525 Advance. Sorry if I kept you waiting for ages to get served, blame Shirley.
  6. Hi Guy's, Are there many if any Gun Stores there, I know clayman will be there but are there any others.? Cheers Hewey

    What 4x4

I'm with Baldrick and Harnser, Got to be a Land Rover, currently on my 3rd Discovery having owned a 300 tdi, a Series II 4.0 V8 and now a Facelift 53 plate TD5 XS Auto. Must admit if your going for a Disco it's got to be an Auto, it just suits the motor so much better. V8 was lovely but a bit thirsty, TD5 at first seemed sluggish but a trip to TD5 Alive for a Remap soon sorted that out and was money well spent, totally transformed it and if anything made it slightly better on fuel. Why Land Rover did away with the Diff Lock on the earlier Series II Discovery's is a mystery to me, yes the Traction control is fairly good but with the Diff Lock fitted to my 53 Plate it's far better off Road than my 99 V8 was. My main gripe with the Discovery is why oh why did Land Rover have the wisdom to put 2 sunroof's in a vehicle which only slide open part way, it's a real pain having such a capable vehicle and not be able to shoot from it.!!
  8. Meinderby, Not yet, sure the Mrs. will want a trip down to Bluewater shopping Center soon so will drop her off and go down to Chris Potter's in Tunbrdge to have look and get the chokes then.
  9. Hi Meinderby, I have recently purchased a 525 Advance which has the Briley Extended chokes, I am also looking to get some flush fit ones for it. Chris Potter in Kent is the Briley authorised seller according to the Briley site and seems to be quite cheap too. That's where I will be getting mine from. Rgds Hewey
  10. Hi Guy's, Sorry not got back to you sooner, the Browning 525 I went to see wasn't any good, travelled 130 miles to see it and wasn't as described.!!! At present until I find a good one I'll hold onto the BSA. Didn't get a chance to take any pic's but I will take some and post asap so you can have a look. Cheers Hewey
  11. Hi Flash, I've had Discovery's with the 300TDI, 4.0 V8 and now a 2003 with the TD5. The TD5 seems to have many more computer controlled elements than the 300 TDI, I must admit luckily mine has been under LR Warranty, so anything that has gone wrong has been sorted, the biggest problem I had was contamination of the Injector Wiring loom with oil, this in turn contaminated the main engine loom which had to be changed. One way to check is to pull the plugs on the ECU and check they are clean. Must admit though wouldn't go back to the 300, the TD5 is so much more refined. I had a TD5Alive remap done on mine which makes it so much better to drive, completely transformed the Disco. See www.td5alive.com. Gary who runs it will give you all the info you need on the TD5 engine he's a great guy to know and his knowledge on the TD5 seems endless. I now your talking about a Defender and not a Disco but take a look at his site and pay him a visit if you get one.. You won't be dissapointed.!! Good luck with whatever you choose.
  12. Thanks for the info M22. Going to look at one tomorrow. Anyone actually got 525's. Cheers
  13. Hi Jerry, Thanks for the reply, I actually got a Beretta choke key for it. Apparently Beretta chokes fit it too, although I managed to get hold of some extra std. chokes.
  14. Hi Sprinter, I will try and get some pic's at the weekend, I also want to try a Browning 525 20 bore before I decide to sell the BSA as I do shoot well with it. Thanks for the interest. Wayne
  15. Hi Alex, Used to have a Beretta Sil. Pig III before I got the BSA, couldn't get on with it at all but thanks for the info. Wayne
  16. Hi All, I have just purchased a Browning 525 Advance Sporter 12 Gauge and am considering getting a 20 Gauge 525 Sporter as well and selling my BSA Regent 20. (See For Sale Section) I will have to get to a Gun Dealers and "have a play" but I just wondered if anyone out there already had both a 12 and 20 Gauge and could give me some info. Really looking to know if they do shoot the same, obviously I know there is going to be a weight difference but is that difference a huge one. (not according to the Browning Web Site) Do they have similar balance etc. Looking at the stock dimensions, drop etc. they are all identical but is that how they feel when being shot. Any info. appreciated. Wayne
  17. Hi Guy's, I currently have a BSA Regent 20 Bore 28" Multi Choke which is in excellent condition. Only about a year and a half old. Cased and with I think 7 chokes. I recently bought a Browning 525 12 Gauge and am thinking of getting a 525 20 Bore to match, so that both guns are as close to being the same as possible. If I do go along this line then it would mean I would be looking to sell the BSA, still not 100% sure as I shoot well with the BSA and haven't actually handled a 525 20 bore yet but if anyone showed me the cash I may be interested. I would be looking for about £475 for it. Would anyone be interested, I haven't got any pics right now but will try to get some at the weekend if anyone wants any. It really is a cracking little gun with good wood compared to all the rest I've seen. Wayne
  18. Hi FB, Def. interested in this 2-3 guns, in fact I'll have the whole day if available but must say you could charge quite a bit more. If your saying 50 birds is £50 per Gun and shooting 9 guns then thats only £9 a bird, your doing yourself out of quite a bit of money. If you sold them at double that then it would still be cheap going on how the price per bird is set to rise next year due to the price of feed. Most around me are going to be £22 at least.!! But count me in. Wayne.
  19. Alex, Trying to get one gun that fit's both a left and right hander will be I suspect impossible. If you get one gun to share then it won't fit both of you and then you will not shoot with it as well as you would with a properly fitted gun. The only way you will find the correct gun for each of you is to go to someone that knows what they are talking about, get yourselves to a reputable Gun dealer and try a few and you will see what I mean.
  20. Adam, Yep Shirley that was it. I'm surprised people think them pricey my 525 Advance Sporter was only £1199 which I thought Very reasonable especially considering it's a very nice one compared to the many others I have seen. Must admit, after I left I thought to myself "Hang on I didn't even haggle on the price" which is Very unlike me.!! Just with the service I got including the time shooting it didn't even cross my mind in fact I felt guilty not paying for the cartridges and clays I had used, they really were that good. Hewey
  21. Hi All, I have been looking out for a new gun to replace my Winchester 101 LWT Waterfowl Winchoke for quite a while now. I've been to almost all the "localish" gunshops without luck or at least not find one that really caught my eye (I'm a fussy *******) although through shouldering quite a few guns I thought the 525 fit me best. Anyway yesterday had a good look to see who had the best selection of guns and made a route (405 miles) which I was going to do today in search of the right gun. My first stop was to be the Oxford Gun Company, 110 miles from home (like I said already done the "local"ones) got there at about 9:05am, didn't realise until I got there that they had a shooting ground aswell. Anyway Walked to the counter and was greeted by a women, me being me thought (sorry hope not to offend any ladies on here) oh no not the person to speak to.!! How wrong could I be, I have never met anyone so helpfull and knowledgeable in any gunshop I have ever been to, rather than just try to sell me anything which many do, she spent a lot of time going through various makes and models of guns seeing what fitted me best and what was most suitable for the job I want it to do. It turned into a complete shooting lesson for me, I think I learned more today than I ever have about how to hold, stand, mount and fire a gun and this with me been shooting for 27 years and thinking I was a average to fairly reasonable shot, it even went as far as what cartridges do I use, and if I continue to use those and hold the gun how I have been I will have neck problems in years to come. Anyway I was in there for nearly 2 and a half hours and I must admit I've come away with an awful lot of good tips. I wish I could remember the Ladies name but she was absolutely first class. I'm sure someone on here will know it. The Gun I ended up with was a Browning 525 Advance Sporter 30" Multichoke with the Briley Extended chokes. which I must say is a very nice looking one indeed, they had what seemed an endless stock of guns as she brought 4 or 5 different ones out from the back so I could choose which one I preferred although they all looked better than some I have seen lately at other gunsmiths. Once I had chosen the gun she insisted that I go out onto the range to try it, she called one of the instructors over explained what I was doing wrong with my gun mounting etc. and asked him to take me out onto the range to see how the gun felt. Like a fool I hadn't taken any of my shooting jackets etc with me but they loaned me a waistcoat, ear muffs, and supplied cartridges and out I went onto the range, OK the targets on the stand I went to weren't exactly testing but the coaching helped no end and I had a good chat with the instructor who informed me that the women I had dealt with formaly shot for England. Anyway 25 out of 25 later which took quite a while with the coaching going on. ALL FRRE I MIGHT ADD, I went back into the shop made my purchase thanked them all and headed off back to Essex. I do not have enough praise for the service I received and the price of the gun was also VERY VERY good compared to most and trust me I'd done my homework on prices. If you are in the market for a new or seconhand gun I would highly recommend them, great service, advise and price. Just don't tell my mates I took the advise of a women.!!! Hewey
  22. Cheers, Must admit never really used Fibre Wads, yes I know the plastic's aren't environmentally friendly but I've always been under the impression that the Plastic Wads throw a better pattern. Will put them on the list as another to try.
  23. Nathan, See my thread "What to use instead of SIPE's" that will give you a few pointers. I find SIPE's great only want to change as I use RC's in 20 bore aswell and they are both Yellow which means an accident waiting to happen.
  24. Hi All, Thanks for all your info, I will buy a few boxes and try some. SamF, the RC Caccia 32g, do you know what the difference is between those and the SIPE's.? Cheers
  25. Good Idea might give it a try but by what they were saying the other day about their pricing can't see them shifting much on it.
