  1. Hey everyone, We suffer badly from grey squirrels on our land, and I am very active in shooting the *******. I have heard of greys being hunted by falcon, and thought this would be quite fun to see/try out. If there are any falconers out there who live in the Thame, Oxfordshire area and would like to come and have a hunt for some squirrels then please just PM me and we can sort something out. Thanks b525shooter
  2. Hey, I am an experienced shooter living near the town of Thame, Oxfordshire. I own about 1,000 acres of land and shoot pigeon and pheasant extensively. We currently have a muntjac infestation and although i hold a shotgun licence i do not hold a firearms licence, and therefore do not own a rifle. I am looking for an experienced deer hunter willing to come out in the evenings to help control these muntjac, I hope that you wouldn't mind if i tag along, I do know the best places to shoot them and where they cross open ground etc... I am not offering any payment, seeing this more as a shooting opportunity than a pest control job, you will be able to keep anything you shoot. I shoot allot of pigeon on the land and dont currently own a gun dog due to travelling commitments, so anyone who helped me out with this deer issue and has an interest in pigeon shooting and rough shooting in the winter, im sure we can come to an arrangement This would be a fairly informal arrangement, we would set up a time, you would come out to the estate, and we would go out together with the rifle and possibly a few drinks and some grub and just stalk some deer. If that sounds good to anybody please send me a message. Regards B525shooter PS: I just checked and the land is not cleared for firearms use, and getting the police out here will probs take a while, so could I please only have responses from people with open licenses, thanks alot.
  3. on the Lansky website there are about 6 diffrent types of sharpening system, which do you guys use?
  4. My mum used to use the stone window ledge on the green house, mind you there wasn't much left of the knife after a few months had gone by.
  5. I have just bought myself a new Gerber Gator 2, which I can reccomend to anyone looking for a new knife, it is a lovely peice of kit. With all my previous knives no matter how often I sharpen them or what I use they still seem to end up very blunt after a relatively short period of time. . With my Gerber I want things to be diffrent. When I looked up knife sharpening on the net there were so many various gadgets and stones for the job I didnt know which to choose. What method and equipment do PW members use to keep there knives sharp? Thanks alot James
  6. Just wondering how many people on here are BASC members. If you are please just leave a brief reply to indentify yourself. I'm just curios to see how widespread BASC membership is in our online shooting community, just satisfying my own curiosity
  7. Thames valley Police, SGC, sent off application on 15th November 2007, received certificate on 22nd Febuary 2008.
  8. Game birds should be hunted with a shotgun of appropriate gauge and cartridge size for the conditions, the species of bird that is to be hunted and skill of the shooter should also be considered when selecting the weapon and ammunition As most people on PW will tell you, have respect for your quarry, that means hunting and dispatching it in the correct way. Some people mock the traditions and protocol of game shooting in a modern shooting environment but they are there for a reason. In short, don't shoot pheasant with an air gun. It is both cruel, disrespectful to the quarry and offensive to the practice of game shooting as a whole.
  9. I woud recomend the Gerber Gator® Fixed Blade Gut Hook or the Gerber Gator Folder Gut Hook, it can be used as a knife aswell as having a discreet gut hook, good for bunnies. In my opinion this would be far more useful than some of the odd looking single purpose tools that look like they belong in a ninja movie not out in the field that some people are trying to guide you towards, and since it is a Gerber, you know it wil be razor sharp from the factory and made of top quality steel. It is expensive though, that is a downside. It also has there special design no slip grip, which really is the best availible!
  10. What do you mean 2 sections on the bush?, I bought the Hoppes Boresnake, that seems to be the only one availible as far as I could see, although I am sure if I looked I would find some cheap replicas on E-Bay.
  11. I personally prefer shooting with a OU, and I think it is better to start with an OU as I stated in my previous post, they are nice guns. I own a Browning OU 525 12g which I paid £1200 for, new. You can get the same gun second hand, about 10-20 years old in beutiful condition for about a third of what I paid for it. It is nice that you have come round to our way of thinking No offence to people who shoot with semi autos or pump action guns, I just dont think it is the right first gun to own.
  12. If you’re happy to go second hand then you can get an O/U or S/S which is in your price range. A good OU or SS new would cost you more than £1000. I would recommend you start with an O/U of good quality, such as a browning or Mariko to name a few, buy it second hand. In the USA they prefer semi auto and auto shot guns, but then there Americans It depends what you want to use the gun for as well, if you ever want to do any formal game shooting they will not approve of you using an auto shotgun, primarily for safety reasons. (You can see when an OU is unloaded, cant with an auto). In the end it’s up to you, but I would recommend going for an OU shotgun made by a reputable gunsmith. Go to a gun shop and GET A GUN THAT FITS YOU, I can’t stress this enough. If you start shooting with a gun that doesn’t fit then you will develop bad habits that will be with for until the day you die, although buying a gun over the net sounds appealing I would advise against it, unless you have tried the model of gun you are looking at in a gun shop/club. Due to your price range you will probably have to scout around a bit for a good quality second hand gun that fits you, but it will be worth it. OU 12g are the most common guns in the UK, and the reason is they are versatile, accurate and relatively easy to maintain. I would recommend that you go down this path. Regards James
  13. sorry to sound simple, but could someone tell me what exactly the blueing in a shotgun is?
  14. Your going to have to go to a gunsmith for that, if you try a DIY job you might damage the gun.
