mikee
smashing looking little dog popgun, its best really to start a bit of fitness training if time allows from mid july onwards especially if you intend to use them in the hotter early season months, my labs always get a bit of weight on through the spring and summer which i try to work off getting nearer to the season start to help them work in the heat, however as most of my winter shooting has historically been fowling i try to get a bit of weight back on the dogs by december to help keep the cold out,a fowling dog does a lot more sitting about than a beating dog, the dogs bowls are never empty from mid december to mid feb, just a thought mikee

Good work George on getting stuck in bet he was knackered. My lab is 5 months now n the season for us starts in 6 weeks. Im going to leave it this season n take a springer I work with. Popgun
On Friday we had a 200 bird phesant day we were short of beaters and dogs took George the cocker we ended the day with 227 birds George is a bit fitter now went like a rocket all day and never put a foot wrong,it went so good that we had our birds in 4 drives and had an early bath plenty of acorns and beech nuts about so the birds were scattered and needed rounding up which ment a lot of fast blanking in of the hard wood belts for George which he loves to do, lots of burrs to pick out of the dogs still great days looking forward to wednesday a 300 bird day so george is resting for a few days.
