vole
Just tuned in the In Laws Freeview set top box but the main channels only show 48% signal and kept freezing. Would a booster help d,you think? I have read conflicting things so thought I would ask here. Thanks for any info.

proud dad
Check that the coax plug(s) are made off properly and that no strands of the outer core are touching the inner core, same at the coax outlet on the wall if there is one. Also, check that no water has got into the coax cable as this can also cause a bad signal, if none of these work it could be a case of renewing the cable for better quality stuff or even upgrading the aerial (assuming you do get decent freeview reception in that area). Try retuning the box again on the 1st as there is an upgrade due tomorrow.

John_R
Good advice above, as the old style cable really does not work well on digital signals. I doubt very much if a booster would do much good. We got a new aerial and cable/splitter etc about a year back and it made a huge difference. al4x
simply put yes a booster will help if its not got one fitted, but check all the plugs properly first
smiiithy
Do a proper rescan by removing the aerial cable and scan for channels, this will clear the existing channels. Then replace the aerial cable and re-scan for channels. Check for outages and upgrades on your transmitter using www.ukfree.tv. This will tell you when the freeview switch over completes in your area if it hasn't been done already; Once this happens you should find a much imrpoved service. If you continue to have problems a booster will normally help. I found that a £10 second-hand amplified indoor digital TV aerial of eBay works better than the existing external aerial. Ones with variable amplification are best as you can amplify the signal up to the required level without having to over-do it, over amplification of a weak signal can also make for poor viewing. Mine goes up to 50db and is the mutts nuts for a tenner, this is the one I have. Edited September 30, 2009 by smiiithy
Dunkield
My Father in Law would love Sky Sports for the football but I cant see them paying for their viewing. If the suggestions don't work, look at Freesat, you only pay once, no subscriptions. I never wanted a wok on the gable end but we had no choice in the end there is poor to no Freeview reception in our area
hinksford
I live on a narrowboat in a very poor signal area for freeview i use a signal booster that plugs into the mail and aerial cable into that then to the Tv ad it made a lot of differrence Mick
