Single handed shotgun lamping

Hi,

Long story short, I have to show my face on a small patch of land tonight to sort out some bunnies. Only gonna be a short session so not worth inviting someone else out to hold a lamp for me.

Now, I need to lamp for myself...

Using a very lightweight 20 bore Silver Pigeon that I can shoot one handed if I need to. However this bulky torch is my only option at the moment. I should also point out the on/off button is on the side.

Any advice on single handed lamping positions on how to support the lamp and the gun? Will resting the gun on top of my hand cause an excessive amount of muzzle flip?

Thanks for any replies!

Cheers,

FM :hmm:

Hi FM, I mainly do this kind of shooting with a Hushpower but can also manage with a normal shotgun rested on my wrist or forearm. I found big lamps too bright and do better with an LED torch, even a Tesco cheapy 2x c cell one.It just about lets me spot the difference between a rabbit and a farm cat at 40 yards.

ACTUALLY! I have a fix.

Pull the plastic stand round, so that the torch will stand up, then get some old carpet or kitchen roll and start wrapping your barrels. Carefully slide the torch stand over your barrels and get it in a nice snug fit. Hey presto! A gun mounted lamp!

.... Just lean backwards a bit more when you shoot!

Solution found.

Large touch is hanging from my shoulder like a strap for scanning. Then I've elastic banded a smaller torch to the side of my barrel for actual shooting.

Lavely.

FM

was gonna suggest that, i have a 12million candle power torch, i hang it from a strap so it sits at my side, just flip it on and scan ny swivellingmy torso, leaves the hands free
