teal27
does any one know any good pike waters in the norfolk area? its coming to that time of year again and ive tried a few last season with no joy, will be deadbaiting. The best place ive tried was filby broad but most i had were below 15lb, any suggestions would be appreciated thanks
mikee
if youve got plenty of time to spare and can stick plenty of blanks while waiting for big fish try the lower stretches of the yare or thurne or hickling broad, good luck mikee
Whitebridges
Hi teal27. My best pike was taken from Ormesby broad at 27lb. I've had a few other good specimins. Around the middle of November you'll see a lot of bait fish starting to migrate to the boat yards and naturally the pike will follow. It's best to get afloat if you can. It opens up a lot more water to fish. As Mikee advises there is always a chance of a big fish from the venues he mentions but they can be hard waters. Odds are if you get a fish it will be a good one! To add to the list of places to try: 1. The river Bure at Wroxham and Horning. If you can get on the bend near Horning Sailing Club it's deeper water than the rest of the river in the locality and holds some very big fish. At Wroxham try the area opposite the car park just the Coltishall side of the bridge where the river widens. 2. Irstead shoals on the river Ant and Neatishead dyke are notable hotspots. They are tight in terms of anglers they can hold though. 3. The Woodbastwick side of the Bure at Horning (opposite the Ferry Inn). You need to be a Norwich and District Angling Association (NDAA) to fish it. It's about £18 a year and you get access to St Benets (Bure) and Coldharbour (Thurne) amongst other waters. 4. Norwich city centre (Wensum) The turning bay at riverside produced some lovely fish from November onwards. I was lucky enough to live at Barton Turf for a while and know The Broads quite well. I see you come from Gt Yarmouth. Nip in to Gorleston tackle and have a word with Jason. He'll put you right on where to try i'm sure. Gorleston Tackle If you need anymore info PM me. I've got lots of other places you could try.Good luck with it. Edited October 5, 2009 by Whitebridges
teal27
Thanks mate, I work at the forum in norwich and drive past a nice looking river on my way there, its as you come off brundle roundabout then about 4 miles up just past the bridge on the left hand side, dont suppose you know if it can be fished or if its private land at all? When you say ormsby, do you mean the sailing club side or the other? thanks again,

This is a very good fishing spot. You can access it from Whittlingham lane sewage farm, but it's a hoike and tricky. The best way is to contact Griffin Marine Clicky . Louise will hire you a boat and it's a short trip to the outfall, no more than 400 yards under the flyover. The piking can be very good up to Bramerton and beyond but it is a bit over fished IMHO. Re Ormesby. All i'd like to say on this is fish the waterworks pumps. PM me if you need anymore Teal. Cheers. mikee
get yourself on one of the big rivers, and try the entrances to the boatyards, some will let you in and some wont, if you can find the silver fish you will find the pike, the little fish shoal up in the boat yards, its still a little early yet though mikee

As said earlier the best way is to get a outboard and have a hunt around. I have found that the bigger girls fall to deadbait on a night as livebait just gets jacks and the odd double. but give it a few weeks and will be moving to the docking places as its where the silvers group so essox wont be far behind .... Dont stay too long in one place...maybe an hour at the most as you have too big a water to cover Edited October 12, 2009 by leeds chimp
