Could you stretch your budget to a Leupold VX-1? Look them up, not sure how much they are these days but they're not stupidly expensive. I've been through a few Hawkes and similar and they're just not up to powder burner use in my opinion. I have a 3-9x40 VX-1 on my HMR and it's a very good scope. You don't really need any more mag than that, I shoot mine to 150 yards no problem.

If it's a bit much wait a month or sell something to fund it. Maybe you could manage with a bag rest instead of a bipod for a month? Really, a good scope is more vital than the gun so do your best to get something good.

On a side note well done on getting an open cert. A lot of guys who have been shooting for a long time still can't get one, you've done well. It really does make getting new permission easier, just take it steady for a while until you know what you're doing and don't chance it on ground you're not sure of. :hmm:

Thanks for the advice i shall look into it. And im not going to be rushing at anything, got around 600 acres for it now so that will do and i will just go in search of the safe shots.

well done man

how did you manage to get it open on first application ??

Luck? got in well with the FEO? i and am shooting over our own farm land and i have experience with centre fires? I will be blunt, I was shocked as well haha. I think that it helped as i got on well with the FEO and we had a long chat maybe 45 mins talking about shooting as we shoot at the same clay ground and so on and then only about 5-10 mins on the stuff you would expect. I think he must have put in a good word.
