Puppy Broken Nail

My terrier pup was just running round like a lunatic upstairs when he mis-judged his stopping distance due to laminate flooring, slid across the floor and ended up falling down the full lot of stairs.

He sqealed a bit (due to shock i think) but then seemed fine. But a few minutes later i noticed blood on his back foot. Had a look and one of his nails is wonky and really loose. Had a look and a feel and he doesnt seem in any pain, there is very little blood and he is walking fine so just seeing what i should do.

If dogs nails are anything like human nails then it will just fall off by the looks of it because it looks like the nail has pulled itself out.

Would it be safe to just wash the blood off and keep it clean and let the nail fall off or is it more serious than it looks.

Yeah it should sort itself. I had a terrier jump from a tractor using the step and as he went the grille pattern on the step snagged a claw and completely stripped it like wire strippers leaving just the core - extremely sore and very bloody! Treated it twice a day with anti-bacterial powder for a week and it was fine. Nature's a wonderful thing! Obviously if it shows any signs of pus/infection into the foot it'll need vet treatment but you should be OK. ATB <_<
