Organising a trip to Scotland to shoot Pheasant

Myself and maybe 7 other members of our local gun club are looking into going on a driven shoot in Scotland next year, our club is based in Cork, Rep of Ireland and we would be flying into either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

I'm going to try and get this off the ground, at this stage I'm trying to work out costs. I will make all members set up a monthly direct debit and and my plan would be that when we go next year nobody should have to put their hand in their pocket.

So how much can one expect to pay for a driven shoot in Scotland per peg for say a 100 bird day with a total of 8 guns?

Also do some shoots provide the guns?...might be too much hasle to bring our own as it seems Aer lingus is the only carrier that carry firearms.

Any local knowledge would also be very helpful

Try the website Guns on Pegs for an indicator to the price of a comparable day in the UK (or even find a day on there!).

This (for a pheasant day) can vary widely from £20/bird to upward of £35/bird depending on many variables. My gut tells me you should expect to pay £320-£400 per gun for the day excluding tips, travel and cartridges.

An alternative - consider a superb walked up day after the grouse in August? Team of eight could split into two fours on a larger estate and have a magnificent walked up day (or even one over pointers) for the same price, potentially with maybe 10-12 brace per group of 4 guns.

A friend runs shooting and sporting holidays in Dumfries and Galloway, he has years of experience and can arrange the whole package including accommodation, and you are very handy for ferries from Ireland ,give him a try his web site is casesport.com

The boy that runs the shooting in the video in this thread http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...howtopic=101986 (Mal Kempson) should be able to fix you up with driven pheasants and roughshooting as well as goose shooting if you want to combine different types of shooting. Google for his own website for more details.

Jim.
