100milesaway
Take some proper lessons, either your not mounting the gun properly, or it doesn't fit you. :blink:from Auntie

jasper3
Hi Ricky I was offered a days clay shoot and one lad even brought along a browning medlist for me to use..I had a great day..but the gun didn't fit me at all and I couldnt hit a barn door let alone a clay  then one of the coach's let me use his winchester.... it fitted like a glove.... I then started to smoke the clays the effect the Browning had was a bruised top arm anyway a few weeks later a friend of mine took me to a farm to shoot some clays..he lent me a browning ultra xs sporter...it fitted so well and with a bit more tuition , I was hitting the clays......... I fell in love with this gun..so much ..I bought the thing I also got to try an old winchester sporter..that fitted too so ...... I now have a gun for clays and an old winchy for rough shooting just make sure you get the gun that fits..it makes a world of difference jasp

SXPhil
Gun fit is soooooooo important My daughter recently switched from a Semi Auto to a 20g She was doing well with the Semi but wanted a lighter gun Suddenly she wasn't hitting anything 1/2" on the stock and she is smoking them again

SXPhil
Ricky Use the search function as nearly everything that has been said about chokes has already been posted for my 2 euro's as still a relatively new person to the sport don't go messing about with chokes once you settle for whatever you are going to use stick with it
libs
Evening one and all, could somebody explain what the chokes do .. because this is all new to me .. There something that people have sleepless nights over, change far too freqently and belive that without the correct amount of said choke, they will never hit a thing. Essentially they are the constricted section at the end of the muzzle which, depending on the degree of constriction (as a little as a few thou") determine how tight the spread of shot will be once it has left the gun. The closer to 1, (i.e 3/4 is tighter than 1/4) the tighter the shot pattern will be at range. All you need is 1/4 & 1/2. And if you have a game gun, no doubt this will be the standard. if you have a multichoke gun however, you will be able to (needlessly) change the choking. COACH
Get a few lessons with an APSI instructor, it will save you a lot of time and money. If you can`t find one, p.m me and I`ll give you the number of one in your area.
George1990
Southdown is my local, so is all I know, but a fair few people on here say it's a really hard ground, so 20 for a first timer can't be bad. I've shot there loads of times, but used a different gun the last time and got 30 something :good: usually in the 60's (my gun obviously doesn't fit very well  )
