spartan80
Hi all I bought a Fausti 12b o/u yesterday with 32" barrels, multichoke, 3" chambers. Got a friend with a free range chicken farm with a fox problem so i'm going lamping with the shotgun this week sometime (no need for a rifle as they come in fairly close) I'll be using either 3" BB with 50-odd gram load or 2 3/4" no.3 with 40-odd gram load. I've heard contradicting opinions from several people about the tightest choke i could use. Can i use full or 3/4 choke with these big load cartridges or not? cheers for the help

Zapp
36g of 1's through full or 3/4 choke is my load of choice for foxes, you should be fine. ZB
spartan80
cheers for the reply lads, i was just told by someone who thinks he knows it all that full choke + magnum loads could cause the barrels to blow out as it's too tight. That only happens with steel shot + tight choke doesnt it?
henry c
Id say half choke, out to 40- 50 yards with 50 gram loads of bb. With loads like that the pattern will vary very little with chokes tighter than half choke, tighter chokes may even distort the pattern by deforming the pellets as they hit the choke tube. But im sure many will disagree!
Paddy Galore!
hello chap, he's thinking of steel magnum, you cant use more than half choke with steel. use what you like with lead as its softer and will deform easier in a tight choke. i have heard similar about sg shot damaging barrels when put thru a full choke but who knows, never tried it. maybe someone will add on this thread and let us know... Ashbiker
You may well damage the barrel matey with the BB shots using a full choke and steel shots! Lead shots though should not be a problem i think...
