GatGun
Im after a low powered round and I am aware that you can buy some rounds that are around the 20-30 ftlb area. Who makes these rounds, and do they work in a B/A magazine or do they have to be fed in individually due to case length ? Also because of the lower speed and weight, Im presumbing they are lesser prone to richochet than the typical .22 subs. For use on rabbits close range. Any comments appreciated. albob
i believe you can get them in normal full length and they are 30 or 40ftlbs at the mussel. some say they are rubbish at over 30yrds. not tried them to be honest and only going by people who have tried them. al
humperdingle
If you can find them! You'd need to check the docs with your gun to see if it willl shoot the shorter rounds or you might have problems. Some folk seem to like them, others hate them. From what i've heard, the trajectory is pretty loopy as you'd expect. You might be better off trying the new CCI Segmented hollow points - They break into 3 chunkson impact , so might be a little less likely to ricochet over shorter ranges. Then again, i've heard mixed reviews of these too!
casts_by_fly
I have a part box of CCI CB longs here. They are 780 fps at the muzzle with a 29 gr solid bullet for 40 ft-lb. They are quiet for sure. They aren't very accurate for me. They would be perfect for trapping and dispatching small mammals. If they shoot well out of your gun then they could be alright for close range rabbits. That said, they shoot for **** out of my gun so I don't bother with them anymore. Don't know where in the northeast you are, but you're welcome to them if you're near Hull area. Thanks Rick
njc110381
CCI CB Longs are ok. They are a good low powered option that will sometimes feed from a drop mag rifle, but they're a bit unreliable. I used to use them to plink with in the garden and shoot Squirrels with (on the ground). I never could decide whether I should shoot them into trees? They're only 40ft-lbs but they're 29 grain so would still come down pretty hard? I never did just in case!
GatGun
Thanks folks. Rick ,Hull Is a little far to travel but thanks for the offer Ive heard mixed reviews about the segnenting rounds, some saying that you get three parts of bullet bouncing about !!!!! nstead of one. Just a bog standard no frills run of the mill cz rimmy. An air rifle would be ideal, if I had one. Any more comments ?
casts_by_fly
I'd say your best bet is either use subs and a moderator or get an air rifle. Depending on the range you're talking, you don't necessarily need an FAC rifle. if you're looking 30 yards of less, a 12 ft lb rifle will do the trick. I had an HW35 for a little bit that was plenty accurate out to 30-35 yards for head shots. I sold it for £100 some time ago on this board. Other similar classed guns come up. Thanks, Rick
