Edward
Now I know it wears off, but I only need it for the trigger guard of my aya. Which kit do you reccomend? its not a black blue its a matt bluey blue I was looking at the Hoppe's Gun Blue Kit for £18 Thanks
banjobill
try the ******* artic these things are a waste of time, go to a gunshop and get it done =£50 and 2 days without the gun BB
banjobill
you could try heating up till cherry red and quenching in stork marge ( modern day equivilent of whale oil) then reheating again, its said to work but i have never tried it BB disclaimer i do not accept any responsibility if the gun/part is damaged when trying this process, i have not said catagorically that it will work and further citation should be sort. onlyme
got very good results with birchwod casey bluing kit pal, done a few air rifles and my freind has done a shotgun, all come up in a awesome finish, but its of the darker blacky blue if you follow me i think you can get the gel types which are a bit iffy imho that give you a lighter navy blue, but only ever touched up with them. the trick to a good finish is patience and prep work. the better prepped and time put in blueing the better. ive also found that if you have finished all your blueing, to leave it for a few days in open air to oxidise fully before a final wirewool and then oiling to a better finish than youd think possible with these kits. sitsinhedges
God I hate cold blueing kits, they are all absolute **** and don't last, usually turning to rust in no time. What actually happens is that the solution contains copper solution that attaches to your guns metal and this is what is actually blued. look in the Yellow Pages for a local metal finisher that does industrial blacking just like those nuts and bolts you buy and he will do your trigger guard properly for a few pounds. I understand Sandwell Field Sports also provide this service very cheaply too. Don't waste yuour cash on the cold blue ****
onlyme
got to agree with the longevity of these kits, it isnt a patch on a proper hot black finish. but it all depends on your budget.
Edward
Thanks Its only to do the trigger guard and plate on the underside of the action, so I can keep touching it up
bay firearms
I can't say I agree with onlyme above comments, I used the same blue kit, spent hours prepping the barrel's and it came out ****.
onlyme
I can't say I agree with onlyme above comments, I used the same blue kit, spent hours prepping the barrel's and it came out ****. my first attempts did pal, it wasnt until i used a hot water tub, a cold water tub and a blow lamp ! just to get the temps right whist applying and washing the chemicals off, i found it very very difficult to get a good finish without a bit of heat , also it only takes one greasy finger print to throw it off, if its just a trigger guard it will be spot on pal . ive seen loads done by the lads down the local air rifle club, some look pants (rushed jobs) and some look awesome, its never going to be a hot black as ive said, and would never dream about doing an expensive set of barrels with it, but for the purpose i used it for , spot on.... made junkers look anew again. bay firearms
Anyone used 'blue wonder' gun blue kit? If it's any good, anyone know where to get it from?
