viking
im looking to get a moderated shotgun for lamping rabbits, i have a 12b baikal single barrel and wondered if i can get a moderator for it, rather than having to buy a new gun, failing that i would just buy a .410 baikal fully moderated for £315 new, but would rather a second hand ione, cheers, lee
onlyme
hi pal, not sure if they do them but these are the chaps to speak to, id personally reccomend a 20g , had a look at all the offerings and an extensive play with the 410 , the 12 is a tad to loud and cumbersome, the 20 is a good compromise. http://www.saddleryandgunroom.co.uk/Gunroom/SG_Hushpower.htm
vole
Yep,a moderated Baikal 12g is a long heavy beast of a gun to lug about but the moderated folders like the 12 or 20g Pedretti are much shorter and fit in a normal slip. I use the 12g. Someone on PW recently said they have a Hushpowered GP Greener, which if they have taken off some of the forend sounds just the job as the Greener is a much better build than the Ped. Saddlery and Gunroom told me the 20g was the quietest due to the moderator size in proportion to the bore. Paddy Galore!
Hello mate, 12g is too loud as there's too much gas given off for the moderator to cope with, the 410's are quietest, not sure about 20g but i've heard good things, can you try one out first? viking
not sure about trying one first, im happy to use a .410, did think about the 20b to, and a single barrel will be fine, not really wanting a semi or pump or i will spend more time looking for the empies, iv looked on guntrader but there are only 7 moderated guns on there, cheers, lee
jackinbox99
I know the saddelry and gunrooms used to do a slip on moderator for a .410, so if you already had a gun, you could buy the silencer for it. I dont think they ever did this option for the 12bore. Looking at 2nd hand prices, i think your best option would be to buy an already silenced gun, rather than get your one altered or even trying to get another barrel for it. Noise wise, ive a hushpower .410 and it certainly is quiet when out in the field. Depending on where the gunshop is, some are more than happy to demonstrate them for you so you can see for yourself.
