Salop Matt
I am looking for a simple cleaning kit for my two rimfires ( .22lr & .17HMR) when I did a Google search everything was coming back £50 + up to silly prices ! Surely a decent cleaning kit doesnt need to cost this much, dose it ? All the made up kit ones seem to have unnessarsary stuff in with them just to bump up the price So what are the bare essentals and what did you pay for yours ? Am aiming to get sorted for under £30 . Am thinking a single rod for both cals, a bronze brush for each cal and a cleaning solution for disolving the lead and copper. I have a cleaning kit for my shotguns so can use some of that for metal oil and wood care !
Dunkield
You could reduce the cost by not bothering to clean the .22 Or just get a pull through?
WGD
Agree with Stuart, sort of - I just use the .17 rod and jag with some solution and 2 patches to take the worst off the .22. But a rod (£30), jag(£3), decent cleaning solution(£10) (which means you don't need a brush) and 1000 patches (£8) for the .17 will set you back near enough £50 - or it did me anyway, from memory. George1990
Get a Tetra-Gun cleaning kit for the HMR and a boresnake for the 22. This kit has a rod, jag, bronze brush, wool mop, loads of patches, impregnated cloth and a bottle of lube and cost me £20. And in mine, despite being a .17 calibre kit, the bronze and wool mop were .22 anyway Put the wrong one it seemed.
Dunkield
I have an airgun cleaning kit for .22 somewhere, but I have never used it, it was a tenner off ebay IIRC

cooter
I use a pull through, which consists of a length of strimmer wire, and use a patch of a roll of cleaning cloth (which cost a few quid from the gun shop) with some form of cleaning oil on it, followed by dry patches until they are clean, for both HMR and LR. I only use them when the rifle goes off, which is never, or when I am bored (like when it rains). I have a bore snake for each size, but the last time I used it it took me ages to get them back on song again, so I just stick to the patches. I have a bronze brush for the .22LR, and for the .223, but they are still in the packets, as they seem to do more harm than good. My motto is if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it.
