Frosty start

As is usual when you would like a lie in I awoke to the missus pinching the quilt at 5.45 this morning, sod I thought lets go an see whats mooching its way home and not expecting to see anyone!

Out of the cabinet I grabbed the 270 and then downstairs fed the dogs and myself,on letting the dogs out in the back yard I thought its cold and still should be spot on for a nice stroll, out to the van to find a thick frost settled on the windscreen, quick splash of de icer and away I sped off to the coast, but no more than 150 yds up the road my progress was halted as the windscreen froze over again and I had to pull in and let the demister take its told on the ice slab attached to the glass.

Away we go again navigating the black ice and silly **** who think its safer to run in the road with the traffic rather than on a perfectly good pavement, eventually I arrive as the sun is slowly breaking its way over the horizon, just then I saw a meteor shower hitting the earths atmosphere and was delighted to be out and about, out of the van and off down the valley I set and scanned for ages looking for anything moving but nothing showed more than the odd pheasant ,an odd new born lamb huddled close to mum but the magpies and crows seemed to be perch high in the trees awaiting the suns warmth before starting their days.

The rats seem to have been active as the picture show so a least I can have an evening out with the air rifle soon.

Slowly but surely the sun makes its appearance and after covering the best part of 400 acres I decided to head for home and swap guns to try and smash some clay pigeons instead,at least they wont be hiding form the cold North Easterly we have at the moment.

Returned to the same farm 2 nights ago and shot a fox ,that I estimated weighed 30lbs,it was huge fat and fullwe noticed it limping across the skyline and followed it down into thevalley of the field .

It was layed down behind a thorn bush that had been ripped out and had blown down the field, this old boy certainly had a lamb supper on his mind,he didnt get it though as my mate and I fired at the same time giving him 260 grains(2x 130 .270 nosler partitioned) of lead.Needless to say he never moved.

Hopefully I might be back that way working today and take the camera to get some pictures of the beast.

Went back and waded across 2 fields of chocolate porridge to get a photo of the beast only to find that the farmer(who never picks them up)had removed the fox and burried it!!!!

Great covered in porridge for nothing ,but as I reach the middle gate and reach for the catch not more than 5 feet infront of me is a stoat hlf out of a rabbit hole, slowly I eased the camera out of my pocket and reach up to view my subject but on pressing the on button, the stoat disappered obviously not liking the noise of the camera starting.

I'll keep the camera with though as you never know what you'll see.

Have a good Christmas all

Keith
