KillStone
What patterns are you having success with over rape at the moment as am out again sunday on a field of rape that is a block of 5 and am going to try and bag off the other favourite field and was wonderin wat is the best way to bag off a field and also if there was a pattern that is really working over rape. I have 1 whirly a flapper 2 floaters and around 40 mixed deeks?? I tried the standard whirly headed U last time with little success and just thought there might be a better starting pattern from which to start the day with so many deeks. Lez325
Try putting your deeks into 2 groups as opposed to traditional V or U patterns- seemed to work for me and no flappers or magnets Pigeons in my area seem to congregate closer than they do in Summer- Les
KillStone
thanks lez will probably start with this then and see how it goes. will post my results on talk from the field if my results are worthy!!!
Cosd
Keep your decoys closer together than you would in the summer months and try to create a vivid grey haze that the woodies can see clearly. But just because your V pattern didn't work last time, it doesn't mean it won't work the next time you are out. Don't be scared to change the pattern more than once if you have to. Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule, it really is trial and error. Watch the birds and their reactions, if they are jinking away last minute they can see something they don't like. Not always easy, but try to work out what they don't like. Sometimes they just don't want to decoy no matter what you do. Have a look at the sponsors site (UKShootwarehouse) there are patterns on there in tips and tricks section.
proTOM1
Use as many flags as you can and just dot them around all over said field ! As for pattern on sunday i had no patteren as such just had decoys spread all over and it worked fine !
Whitebridges
If you are shooting near some sitty trees/hedgerow that the birds have been using as a midday/afternoon resting place a few lofters or deeks in the hedge can work wonders. Mine you I haven't shot a bird over 'coys since the harvest so I probably don't have a clue what i'm on about! Good luck with it.
