P03
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, in fact this is only my second post, but I've been shooting for a few years. It occurred to me recently that most people get land by being asked by the farmer to sort a problem for him, so.....how do you get farmers to ask you for help? This is my idea, not original I grant you, I am looking to form a syndicate of vermin shooters who can be there when the farmer wants us. It works like this; the syndicate co-ordinator distributes business cards to all the local farms, when a farmer has a problem he phones the number on the card and the co-ordinator then phones the members to see who is available and then lets the farmer know who is coming and when. The important thing is reliability, if you say you'll go you must go! I would appreciate your views before I go any further and please be as brutal as you see fit. PS its free to farmer and shooter. clone
seems like a good idea but you will have to state what areas you will cover, what type of shooters you will need and get the ppl sorted befor you get the land
bobt
thats how the pigeon control clubs work?
Teal
Sounds like the NPPC, at the end of the day, it can't be free for the farmer and shooter because the coordinator will have phone bills and his time taken up doing this. P03
Ta for the input, I knew there'd be many points I hadn't considered which is why I asked for your opinions. I think Clone is right but it's difficult to recruit members when you've got no land. I've never been a member of a club so I don't know how they operate and unfortunately the NPCC doesn't cover this far south. As for the cost.... well nothing's completely free but if the co-ord post is rotated around members (maybe buy a p.a.y.g mobile) the cost should be negligible. Any more ideas greatly appreciated cheers P03
barrie0
Had a similar idea last year , and posted on a farmers forum for any farmers to get in contact with me who had pigeon problems around the uk , then I was going to post in this forum for pigeon shooters to get in contact with me , then I would have forwarded any replys to the farmer . I had 1 reply from a farmer who had a serious problem with pigeons , so I emailed him back with my intentions (all for free for farmers and shooters) and never heard from him again and also never had any more replies ! . So I gave up on the idea . It may work if you advertised in a major farming publication ie Farmers Weekly etc , but as said you have to think of the time and cost for yourself . P03
I am beginning to think this is going to harder than I thought. I've had one reply from a bloke who's had as many knock backs as I have, so I'm going to push on for now, but I am not overly optimistic. p03
Axe
Persaverance is the key here. IF you and a few colleagues are able to cover an area, then get a letter together and send it out. You could use MS Word or similar to create a letter headed document to give it a bit of professional sparkle and include a business card that can also be printed at home. As far a the syndicate goes, its a good idea, but someone has to run it. You'll need to check and double check that those who you recrute have upto date insurance and are going to follow the guidlines you lay down. Behaviour in field, disposal of quarry, litter etc etc etc. You wil also have to keep an eye on the legal side of things, Shooting permisson etc. Good luck and stick with it. Axe. P03
Ta Axe, I intend to go as far as I can but I'm not doing all the donkey work, anyone who joins will have to pull his/her weight and be a current paid up member of either BASC or the CPSA I know there are other ways of being insured but these are the easiest to regulate. As for conduct in the field, well that's going to have to be a matter of trust. I would hope most shooters would treat farm land and farmers with respect but you can always rely on someone to XXXX it up for everyone else, maybe some sort of feedback from the farmer with the promise that anyone he doesn't like won't be going back, even then we'd probably lose the shooting.
